Chapter 61
Chapter 61 A New Man
When Emily looked back again, Nathan's figure was no longer there, only Carol sitting alone, sobbing softly.
Bert understood some of what was happening and turned to Emily, confirming, "Is that Nathan's mother?"
Emily nodded awkwardly, "Uncle... Carol's not in a good mood today. Shall we come back?"
Bert frowned unwillingly, "I've already said I won't act impulsively. I'm just here to reason with Sophia. It's fine, go and comfort Carol, I'll go find Sophia directly." "Don't..."
"Don't stop me, I spent over fifty dollars on a taxi to get here, and you want me to leave empty-handed?"
Money was hard-earned for Bert, and fifty dollars meant a lot to him.
Today, he must have been truly urgent to take a taxi.
Bert headed straight to the Reed mansion, and Carol stomped her feet in anger, "You people are all bastards! Every one of you is eyeing our money, trying to marry into our family? I'm not dead yet! This is the Reed family, not a place for you lowlifes to come and go as you please!!!"
Emily felt a pang of sympathy upon hearing this.
Carol always carried herself as if she were superior in front of her. Emily had never seen Carol so hysterical before.
It seemed Nathan's attitude towards her just now might not have been so good.
"And you!" Carol saw Emily nearby and charged at her, pointing her finger accusingly, "What are you up to? You can't bear children, so you let your sister seduce my son. How shameless your family is! All women flock to Nathan. Are you all afraid someone will snatch away Mrs. Reed's position?"
Emily couldn't bear to listen anymore, "Carol, weren't you quite satisfied with Sophia before? How did it become my fault for her seducing your son?"
"I was misled by all of you! I just wanted an heir, and coincidentally your sister got pregnant. Aren't you two colluding to scheme against my son? Do you dare to deny it?"
Emily laughed out of frustration.
Carol's imagination should be used in Hollywood as a scriptwriter.
"If that's what you think, then there's nothing I can do," Emily said, "Anyway, we won't see each other again in the future. I don't need to waste so much time explaining to you, and you wouldn't listen to my explanations anyway. That's it, I'll go inside and take a look." Since Nathan wasn't outside accompanying Carol, he must have gone in to find Sophia.
If Bert were to see any intimacy between them, today's drama would definitely not end well. She had to stop it as soon as possible.
"You're not allowed in!" Carol suddenly shouted, grabbing Emily's arm and forcefully pulling her aside.
Carol's strength was too much for Emily, who was caught off guard and slammed into a tree.
Leaves rustled down heavily due to the force, falling on her head and clothes, making her look particularly disheveled.
Carol stood with hands on hips, scolding, "This is the Reed family's mansion. As long as I'm here, you won't step inside!"
She looked like an angry bull.
"Carol, didn't you say you have hypertension?"
"What's that got to do with you? I had high blood pressure just now, but I'm fine now, okay?"
Just a moment ago she claimed to have high blood pressure, and now she had turned into a drama queen Emily sighed. It seemed Carol's hypertension came and went as she pleased; if she said she had an episode, she immediately became a patient, and if she said she didn't, she was a full-blown lunatic.
Emily struggled to stand up despite the pain in her back, "Fine, I won't go in. I'll wait here."
Now that Bert already knew about Nathan and Sophia, she couldn't keep stopping him. Given Bert's temperament, it was only a matter of time before things escalated.
Emily suddenly smirked. The Reed
family was already overbearing
enough to kick her out without
giving her any money. She didn't want to cause any trouble, fearing her father's anger.
But since things had come to this, why not expose all the dirty deeds in the sunlight and let everyone in New York City see the disgusting face of the Reed family!
At that moment, a pair of strong hands steadied her, and Mr. Satan's slightly hoarse voice sounded beside her, "Emily, are you okay?"
Emily forced a smile and shook her head, "I'm fine, just a little bump."
Mr. Satan checked her back, a bit concerned, "I'll take you to the hospital for a check-up later."Belonging to NôvelDrama.Org.
"No need, I'm fine. I don't have hypertension, and I'm young. A little bump won't break any bones."
The sarcasm in her words aimed at Carol, how could Mr. Satan not pick up on it? He affectionately tapped her nose, "You're like a kitten showing its claws now." Emily gently moved her still slightly sore back and said lightly, "I've always had claws, just never really showed them before."
"Well, you're quite impressive then."
Emily wrinkled her nose, half jokingly, half warning, "About that woman... can you just keep her out of our lives? At least don't let me have anything to do with her again?" "Sure, I'll remember."
His attitude was too good, Emily couldn't even be angry. It was like punching cotton; all her words turned into a sigh.
That's how relationships were, no order, no should or shouldn't. Two people met, fell in love, as long as it didn't violate morals, it was an inevitable journey.
If the journey went smoothly, it was sweet love; if it didn't, they parted ways.
Emily felt that she and Mr. Satan were neither. She was prepared for marriage but also prepared for a breakup at any time.
No one knew the outcome until the end.
"You are..." Carol's gaze had been fixed on Mr. Satan for a while, scrutinizing him, her eyes filled with suspicion.
Mr. Satan stood tall, letting her look at him openly, "I'm Emily's boyfriend."
"Hah!" Carol chuckled coldly, a hint of "I knew it" flashing in her eyes, "No wonder she agreed to divorce so easily, she's already found a new man. Emily, you're something else!"
Emily was completely immune to
Carol's taunts by now, "Even if I
found a new man, Nathan cheated- first and got the other woman pregnant. According to the law should still be entitled to a share of the marital property with Nathan. Carol, don't provoke me, or this matter won't end well."
