PHB 70
“Enough, Des. You calm down first. I’m sure there’s a way out of all the problems that have occurred.”
Veronica gently rubbed Deasy’s shoulder. She observed her friend sitting quietly on the sofa in her apartment.
After learning that Deasy had a dispute with Lucas yesterday evening, Veronica intended to check on her friend’s condition today. She had been trying to reach Deasy all morning without any response. Worried that something might be wrong, Veronica deliberately visited Park Avenue, where Deasy lived, at lunchtime.
As expected, when she arrived at Deasy’s apartment unit, she found that Deasy was not working. From her disheveled appearance, swollen eyes, and tired expression, Veronica was certain that there was indeed a problem between Deasy and Lucas. All rights © NôvelDrama.Org.
That’s why Veronica was trying to help. Even though she couldn’t do much, at the very least, she was willing to be a loyal listener in case Deasy needed a friend to talk to, as usual, to vent her frustrations and share her feelings. Who knows, maybe she could offer some advice or solutions.
“Des…” Veronica called once more. “Come on, stop being silent. You surely haven’t eaten since this morning, right? Here, I brought your favorite food. Eat first, okay? I’ll feed you,” Veronica offered a bit insistently. She immediately took out a box of food from her bag, which she had intentionally brought with her. She opened it and then slowly fed Deasy.
“Come on, eat first. It’s a pity for your child if you fast like this. What if something happens?”
Deasy took a deep breath. She finally accepted the spoonful of rice Veronica offered and slowly chewed it.
Ironically, the food Veronica brought was Deasy’s favorite. Black pepper beef combined with capcay soup was a dish Lucas often prepared, and Deasy always enjoyed it. But for some reason, it tasted bland this time. Deasy seemed to have lost interest in eating anything.
“Why? If there’s a problem, just tell me, like you always do. I’ll listen, you know.”
Deasy took another deep breath. While looking out the window, she tried to explain what she was feeling right now.
“My relationship with Lucas is ruined, Ve. It seems like it can’t be fixed. Lucas is really angry with me.”
This time, Veronica took a deep breath. Knowing the cause of the argument involving Deasy and Lucas, she could only offer some simple advice.
“You need to be patient. In my opinion, it’s better to let Lucas calm down first. It’s only human to be continuously angry and disappointed. That’s why it’s better to give him space and time to clear his mind.”
“But how long should I wait?”
“Until you can erase all the resentment in your heart, Des,” Veronica replied with unwavering confidence.
Deasy smiled wistfully. Mentioning resentment reminded her of a lengthy conversation with her mother, during that time.
“Are you really sure you want to marry a man named Lucas?” Diana asked.
After Deasy had introduced Lucas to her mother, the next day, Diana intentionally visited Deasy’s apartment to discuss it further. Diana was curious about her daughter’s sudden plan to get married soon.
“Yes,” Deasy nodded. “I’m very sure, Mom. Why? Why do you seem doubtful?”
“Well, I just feel something is off.”
“What do you mean?” Deasy inquired.
“Your plan is so sudden, Des. Besides, do you really know Lucas’s family well? Do you know his background clearly, even though he’s handsome and has a high position? You should still be clear about his family background.”
Deasy nodded. She understood what her mother meant.
“Don’t worry, Mom. Lucas comes from a respected family. His background is clear. You even know his parents very well.”
Diana immediately raised an eyebrow. She pondered for a moment on Deasy’s statement about knowing Lucas’s parents.
“Really? Is Lucas from Andreas’s family?”
“Andreas Ashborne?” Devina guessed, pretending to know. “Isn’t Andreas’s only child someone else? As far as I know, Lucas isn’t his son.”
Deasy sighed. It wasn’t Andreas she was referring to.
“No, not Andreas, Mom.”
“Then, who is Andreas?”
“Andreas Morales. He owns the Daxton Group.”
Diana was astonished. Sharpening her hearing, she repeated what Deasy had just told her.
“W-who? Whom did you mention just now?”
“Andreas Morales. You didn’t mishear, Mom.”
Diana remained silent for a few moments. Her gaze locked onto Deasy’s eyes, which looked so relaxed as if without any burden.
“Deasy… what are you planning?” Diana asked as if she already knew what was in her daughter’s heart.
“What do you mean, Mom? I’m not planning anything,” Deasy replied.
Diana shook her head repeatedly. Did she think Deasy would believe her that easily? Diana knew her daughter’s character inside out. Especially after her husband’s death, Diana was well aware of Deasy’s wild obsession with revenge. Once again, she knew it all too well.
“Deasy… don’t play games. I’m the one who carried and raised you. I know your character and habits. I’m sure there’s something you’re planning.”
Deasy could still laugh calmly. Closing the distance between her and her mother, she revealed her thoughts.
“It’s a long story, Mom. But what you need to know is that I’m currently pregnant with Lucas’s child.”
“What?!”
Before the shock from earlier had fully subsided, Diana was once again confronted with a reality that left her speechless. She never expected that Deasy was now expecting a child. Moreover, her daughter claimed that the baby in her womb was Lucas’s, the son of Andreas Morales.
“You must be joking.”
“I’m really pregnant, Mom. And this is indeed Lucas’s child. Which means it’s going to be Andreas Morales’s grandchild. The man who caused Dad’s death.”
Diana shook her head. She had tried repeatedly to get Deasy to let go of the long-standing grudge still residing in her daughter’s heart.
“How long do you plan to live in this grudge, Des? Don’t tell me you intend to marry Lucas just to use him to destroy the Morales family?”
“At first, Mom, I didn’t think that far. But after finding out that Lucas is indeed Andreas Morales’s son, it doesn’t hurt to take advantage of this situation. Besides, Andreas deserves to pay for what he’s done-”
“Done what, Des? Did Andreas Morales really intentionally kill your father? Please stop making wild assumptions. And, even if he did something wrong in the past, why should Lucas bear the consequences? He has no idea about any of this.”
“It’s the same thing, Mom.”
“No, Deasy! Your actions are wrong and excessive. I can even feel that Lucas is sincere with you. And what? You want to exploit him? Play with his sincerity? Outrageous! Marriage is sacred, Des, not a trial or something to toy with.”
Diana’s words successfully silenced Deasy. Upon further consideration, Lucas didn’t deserve to receive the consequences of what Deasy’s father might have suffered in the past. Furthermore, if she were honest with herself, Deasy couldn’t deny that she had real feelings for the man who had impregnated her.
“Do you think all your problems will be solved by seeking revenge?” Devina asked in the midst of the silence. “Do you think your father in heaven will be happy and at peace after revenge? Oh, come on, Deasy. Don’t act recklessly. Don’t let your ego overshadow your common sense. I know you feel lost, just like I do. But that doesn’t mean I have to act foolishly like you are.”
“But Andreas Morales must be held accountable for his actions, Mom.”
“Which actions, Des? Did Andreas really deliberately kill your father? Again, please stop your wild assumptions. And let me emphasize this clearly: if you don’t genuinely love Lucas, it’s better to end your relationship. I don’t want you to exploit, let alone play with the heart of someone who knows nothing. Don’t let your vengeance destroy yourself.”
Diana’s words eventually proved true. The grudge that had been burning in Deasy’s heart had started to consume her.
“Enough, Des,” Veronica said again, snapping Deasy out of her reverie. “Both of you need to calm down first. When you’ve cooled off, you can slowly work together to resolve all of this.”
“Yes, but what if Lucas doesn’t want to talk to me? What should I do? Besides, I also have to deal with the company’s matters.”
Deasy took a deep breath, feeling overwhelmed by the weight of her problems.
Yes, it was a mess she had created herself. Moreover, Lucas now knew and even had concrete evidence that she was the mastermind behind the significant losses suffered by Quantum Tech.
Deasy also wondered if Lucas would report her actions to the authorities after this, considering what she had done had caused substantial harm to the company and many people.
“Well, for now, it’s better to focus on the company’s affairs. Take responsibility and resolve everything quickly. If you encounter difficulties later, I’ll help as much as I can. The important thing is to stop here, Des. I’m begging you, please stop. Don’t let grudges make your life even more complicated or destroy it in the end.”
Deasy remained silent. Whether she heard or not, Veronica’s lengthy advice had just been delivered.
In her mind, she was thinking about how to resolve the complicated issue between herself and Lucas.
