Chapter 307 Joseph’s Lie
Chapter 307 Joseph’s Lie
“Stop drinking.”
Hayden put the glass aside. When she was ready to pay the bill, Lyon blocked her and paid it by his card.
“I should treat you to dinner. I won’t let a girl pay for me.”
Hayden pulled a wry face and didn’t know what to say. She asked a waiter to help Lyon into the car and she drove him to the hotel.
She observed Lyon by the rearview mirror, who crumpled on the back seat talking nonsense with a red face. She shook her head, “Lyon, you know, you are not a good drinker.”
Lyon held a pillow firmly and mumbled, “I promise you, Chris. I won’t drink wine.”
Hayden sighed.
A few moments later, they arrived at the hotel. Waiters helped send Lyon upstairs and Hayden opened the door for him by the key from his pocket.
“Just leave him in the bed. Thank you.”
Hayden told the waiters and turned on the light. After walking around in the room, she closed the curtain and kept the thermostat at 26℃. At last, she filled a glass of hot water for him on the bedside.
She knew that celebrities had their own backgrounds which varied from person to person.
Actually, what Lyon said did not surprise her although it sounded dramatic at first. She believed that he told her the true experience – nobody would waste time to make up such a story.
Then she left the hotel and waited for a taxi by the roadside by waving hands. Concentrated on Lyon’s story, she caught a glimpse of Joseph and she could hardly believe the man was him.
Joseph got off a taxi in the black coat she took out to him from the wardrobe in the morning, and since he’s across the street, Hayden was not quite sure this guy was Joseph.
She was going to rush across the sidewalk but then was stopped by a policeman who warned her of the traffic light with a whistle. As standing still and waiting, she took out her phone to call Joseph.
On the first ring, however, she raised up her head and found a woman get off the same taxi and walk with Joseph towards the commercial building.
She kept ringing Joseph. Although they’re so far away, Hayden could see clearly that he took out the phone and the woman was curious at it.
Then their phones were connected.
But Hayden did a double-take. Joseph called her several times on the phone before she replied.
“Joseph, where are you?”
Joseph answered calmly and steadily as usual,
“I’m still working in the company. What happened?”
Hayden held her phone more firmly, “Nothing. But why can I hear the sound of cars outside?”
“Oh, actually I am going to buy food downstairs”
“You haven’t had your dinner yet?”
“Yes.”
“How about I drive there to pick you up? It’s too late, honey. It’s time to rest.” With finger nails almost sinking into her palm, she tried but failed to find a reasonable excuse for Joseph.
“No, don’t do that. You should sleep early because I will come back home late. I am quite busy and I have to go now.”
Then he hung up the phone without hesitation.
Hayden became stiff with her phone, staring at the two persons across the road.
She didn’t tend to think ill of Joseph but he lied to her this time. She knew that those who told a lie must try to hide something and what he wanted to hide from her was a puzzle to her.
That the traffic police blew the whistle announced the permission to pass the road. Hayden hurried through the crowd and almost ran in the biting wind to follow Joseph’s direction. Têxt © NôvelDrama.Org.
The World Trade Building was so large that she had no idea where to go. She stood at the gate, watching the moving lifts with flutter.
Her phone kept vibrating in the pocket, which surprised her. Noticing people around paying attention to her, she became sober and answered it immediately.
“Hayden! Where are you? Still in Nanking?” It’s Alayna.
“Yes.” She frowned and looked around to find Joseph.
“Well, I must tell you something.”
Alayna said urgently, “Kevin informed me that Joseph found Noah’s natural mother.”
Hayden’s face visibly whitened. She couldn’t believe the news and asked in a high-pitched voice, “What?”
“I don’t believe that either. You said that Noah was your child but Kevin told me yesterday that Joseph found Noah’s another mother and met her already. Oh, it’s the woman that came forward to Joseph and hoped to meet Noah.”
“But it’s impossible!” Hayden was completely confused, “She must be a liar.”
“Why? Maybe she told the truth.”
Alayna doubted, “You cannot identify the man as Joseph only by a pendent. You have told me Joseph’s pendent was missing for a long time and he didn’t even know when he lost it.”
Holding the head, Hayden’s thoughts were in a whirl.
“No. Noah must be my own son.”
She ensured that Noah was the baby who was taken away from her by the proof of a clerk of the jewelry store.
However, if the pendent was lost before the night they had sex, she could hardly prove that the man was Joseph.
“Hayden, don’t worry. Have you and Noah done the paternity test before?”
“A paternity test?” Hayden gradually calmed down, “Oh yes, I’ve got the report.”
The test was conducted by Vivian secretly who wanted to check the relationship between Hayden and Joseph. And the result of it did confirm that Stella was Joseph’s daughter. She completely forgot it because of agitation.
“Now I agree with you. That woman told a lie.” Alayna took a deep breath, “Hayden, be careful. Perhaps my intuition is true –something evil will happen. Kevin said that Joseph had his assistant look
for Noah’s natural mother and now the assistant discovered some problems in the surrogacy.”
“What problems?”
“I don’t know. Kevin refused to tell me for fear that you two will have a bad relationship.”
Hayden pondered for a while and found it hard for her to accept.
Joseph might have already figured out that the girl who was to be the surrogate mother was actually replaced. However, before he dug out the whole truth, a woman appeared suddenly announcing that she was the one who gave birth to Noah.
All of them seemed to be pushed towards a direction which led to a more intricate maze.
They failed to control their life as if there’s someone behind the curtain manipulating all the stuff.
