Chapter 37
Naomi’s heart lurched as she glanced toward the door. The famillar knocking reminded her of Scott.
However, she knew full well that he would not show up here, so she turned her head away.
Dean stood up. “I’ll go get it.
“It’s probably the nurse having come to serve your medicine,” said Donna. With that, she sighed and placed a hand on Naomi’s forehead. “Do you know how worried we were on the way here?”
Naomi was always a healthy child and rarely ever got admitted to the hospital growing up. This was probably her first hospitalization ever.
Naomi smiled reassuringly at her mother. “Don’t worry, Mom, I’ll be fine.”
Donna sighed again. She knew her daughter like the back of her hand; Naomi was always so nonchalant, even when the world was crashing down around her.
The two of them were so engrossed in their conversation that none of them noticed Dean standing frozen in shock at the door.
“You!” his voice faltered as he gaped at the man standing across from him. Material © NôvelDrama.Org.
Scott caught a glimpse of the room the moment the door swung open, including the person sitting on
the bed.
Naomi’s luscious hair spilled down her neck but appeared a little unkempt, as though she just woke up from a good night’s sleep. Her skin looked a little paler than usual, but she appeared calm and content despite the discomfort of her injury.
She was just as serene as he remembered her.
Scott turned away from her and glanced at Dean. “Hello, Mr. Goodwin.”
Naomi froze when she heard his low, husky voice and glanced in his direction.
Scott was wearing a black shirt with matching trousers, his first two buttons undone at the collar which revealed his chiseled collarbones. At this moment he was staring at Dean.with a collected look, his eyes as dark and penetrating as she remembered.
Naomi’s heart skipped a beat.
What was he doing here?
Donna, too, caught sight of this. She was just as shocked as Dean was.
Dean finally snapped out of his stupor and asked, “What are you doing here?”
Neither of them expected to see Scott here. The last time Dean spoke to anyone related to the Lawsons was when Edith, Scott’s grandmother, called to apologize on Scott’s behalf. Since then none of them had anything to do with the Lawsons after Naomi’s divorce.

Therefore, it was understandable how shocked Dean would be to see his former son–in–law show up unannounced in the hospital room.
Scott, however, did not even falter. “The girl Naomi saved is my cousin’s daughter.”
Dean immediately understood what happened. “Ah, I see. Why don’t you come in?”
With that, he opened the door wider in a gesture of invitation.
Donna, too, snapped out of her stupor and leaped to her feet. She glanced around her surroundings, then pulled a chair over to Naomi’s side and said, “Here, sit.”
Scott was always cold and aloof, so although he and Naomi were married for three years, Dean and Donna were slightly petrified of him. To them, Scott felt like a stranger who just so happened to marry their daughter.
Scott stepped into the room.
Donna immediately found an excuse to slip away. “I’ll go cut you two some fruits.”
Dean, too, wanted to come up with a reason to excuse himself, but he could not find any, so he meekly followed behind his wife and slipped out the door..
The room was silent once more.
