Chapter 547
Greta shoved the urn towards Miranda. "I can't afford a burial plot for him. Do you want the urn? If not, I'm thinking of scattering his ashes at sea."
Miranda burst into tears. "He cared about you the most. How could you treat him like this? It's one thing not to have a burial plot, but you're not even giving him a funeral? At least hold a memorial to honor him." Greta's face hardened. "Have you seen how tough my life is? What you're asking is unreasonable. Who told you to be so naive and hand the house over to Nathalie?"
Miranda could only sob in response.
Greta tossed the urn to her and stormed off.
But then Miranda wheeled after her, calling out, "Greta, if you hold a funeral, it won't be a loss for you."
Greta stopped, intrigued. "What do you mean?"
"Your dad was a CEO. He knew lots of important people. When someone like him dies, they usually send condolence money. You could use some of that to cover his burial costs and keep the rest." Greta, desperate for cash, softened a bit. "You finally did something right."
When Nathalie got home, she soon found an invitation from Greta for Patrick's funeral.
Nathan grabbed the invitation, tossed it in the trash, and hugged her from behind. "You always feel terrible after seeing them. Stop going. That mother and daughter just want you to pay for the funeral." Nathalie, cheered by Nathan, said playfully, "With you as my support, I'm quite the little rich lady now. I'm not scared of their tricks."
Nathan chuckled, "If that's the case, I'll go with you."
Nathalie agreed happily. "Alright."
She skipped Patrick's cremation but showed up with Nathan at the funeral.
The chapel was packed with Patrick's old friends and some of the Dawson family, all there out of respect for Cameron.
As they entered, Nathalie saw Greta
kneeling in mourning clothes, her eyes red and swollen from crying. Some well-meaning folks were trying to comfort her, "Greta, he's gone, don't be too sad..."
Nathalie found it amusing, watching Greta's act. Not only was she playing up her sorrow, but she also tried to guilt-trip Nathalie when she saw her. "Nathalie, my sister, why are you so late?"
That single word, "sister," turned all eyes on Nathalie. People began whispering, some even saying, "Your own father has passed, and you show up like a guest? So late? How ungrateful."
Nathalie felt a chill at their words...
These people, clueless about the real story, were quick to judge her, and it made her furious. But before she could say anything, Nathan stepped in.
He pulled Nathalie close, facing the rude guest with a stern look. "Since she was three, my wife had to beg for food from neighbors. She grew up on charity. What kind of father are you talking about?" noveldrama
The man was left speechless.
What do you think?
