Chapter 119 What's The Result
Chapter 119 What's The Result
As soon as he left the ward, Zac's phone rang. The number appearing on his screen wasn't familiar to him, but he still readily answered the call.
"What's the result?" Zac asked in a low voice. His tone manifested a sense of familiarity like he was talking to an old friend.
A chuckle could be heard on the other end of the line. Then the man said solemnly, "Boss, you told me to look into this matter. There's no way Id fail. I've found the motorcyclist, but I wasn't able to find out who instigated him to do that." As soon as he finished speaking, the man on the other end of the line sighed helplessly.
Zac was stunned to hear this report. He frowned and asked suspiciously, "Has the cyclist been murdered?
"Boss, you guessed correctly. He was already poisoned by the time I found him, and there was no way to save his life," said the man helplessly.
Then he remembered something and exclaimed, "But I have new findings. Fortunately, that guy did not delete his phone call records. Looking through his call log, I found several strange numbers on his phone."
Hearing this, Zac nodded with satisfaction. He had finally gotten some clues, so this was not all in vain.
"I have something to deal with now. I'll come to you later, and we'll further discuss this. After saying this, Zac hung up the phone quickly. Looking in the direction of the ward, he could see Patricia through the window, her back still turned to him. Thinking of her indifference to him, he pouted before quickly walking to the other end of the corridor to take the elevator.
After Zac left, Patricia slowly turned around. She frowned, a trace of displeasure appearing on her face as she subconsciously looked in the direction of the door as if searching for someone.
Confirming that Zac had left, Patricia realized that she was now alone in her room. She could not help feeling a pang of sadness due to his absence. A moment later, Dora came over with a fruit basket and a bunch of flowers, informing Patricia that Giselle had gotten someone to deliver these for her.
'Although Giselle is Patricia's mother, she isn't able to come and see her daughter in person. Her only option is to have someone deliver things on her behalf. Dora felt uncomfortable seeing this, so she could only imagine how Patricia felt about this whole ordeal.
Instead of feeling happy upon seeing her favorite flowers, Patricia felt more glum and depressed at this sight.
Seeing the unhappiness in Patricia's eyes, Dora realized that she needed to distract Patricia. Dora couldn't let Patricia be swallowed up by her sorrow, which would only worsen her health.
"Well, Miss Patricia, what would you like to eat? I'll buy you some food later. Mr. Reynolds said that he had something to deal with and wouldn't be coming over this evening. So, he asked me to buy you dinner."
Hearing this, Patricia looked at Dora in confusion and asked suspiciously, "Has Zac bought everything that I've eaten so far? Was it not you who purchased the meals?"
Hearing what Patricia said, Dora smiled mysteriously and could not resist telling her the truth. She said softly, "It wasn't me, Miss Patricia. You're mistaken in thinking it was me. Mr. Reynolds himself bought you everything you've eaten. Sometimes, though, when he's busy, he would ask me to bring you whatever he bought."
At the moment, a tinge of disbelief flashed across Patricia's face. She looked at Dora with her clear eyes, eager to discern whether Dora was telling her the truth or not.
'How can an arrogant man like Zac stoop to doing such a trivial thing as buying food for me? It is enough that Zac will never make trouble for me again. But would he care about me like this?
Seeing the puzzled look in Patricia's eyes, Dora felt elated in her heart. She thought that her chance had come. This time, she would do her best to put in a good word for Zac. In this way, Patricia would have a better impression of him.
Dora gave a slight cough before speaking seriously. "Miss Patricia, you've misunderstood Mr. Reynolds. He really cares about you. He was afraid that you wouldn't get used to the food in the hospital canteen, so he brought you delicious meals every time. He also inspected your room to ensure it had been cleaned. And he checked if your clothes and sheets had been washed. From this, you can see how much he cares about you."
Dora's words made Zac sound like a neat freak. But then again, Patricia had not discovered such a trait in him before they were divorced.
Dora was a little disheartened when she noticed that Patricia showed no signs of being moved by this revelation. Pouting, she thought, 'Isn't Mr. Reynolds doing a good job here? Is this not enough to move Miss Patricia?
In actuality, it was not that Patricia was not moved. It's just that Patricia was so shocked by Zac's actions that she had almost forgotten what it was like to be moved.
"Dora, are you serious?" Patricia looked at Dora in surprise, wanting to verify it through her answer.
Dora nodded her head vigorously as she looked directly at Patricia. 'Although this doesn't guarantee that Miss Patricia will be immediately moved, it is still better that she learns the truth as quickly as possible. Who knows, perhaps she'll remember my words one day and be moved by what Mr. Reynolds has done for her, thought Dora.NôvelDrama.Org owns this text.
Seeing Dora's affirmation, Patricia nodded slightly. She still looked somewhat indifferent, though, as if this wasn't enough to touch her.
Dora felt distressed upon seeing Patricia's indifference. She felt sorry for Zac, thinking that nothing would move Patricia no matter how kind he was to her. 'Even I am moved by Mr. Reynolds's actions, so why isn't Miss Patricia moved by him?' wondered Dora.
Patricia bit her lower lip lightly. She felt slightly awkward seeing the confusion written across Dora's face. A hint of sadness flashed through Patricia's eyes then. It was not that she wasn't moved by Zac's actions, but rather that she did not know how to express how moved she was. No matter how kind Zac was to her, it all seemed like an illusion. There was, after all, an unbridgeable gap between Zac and herself.
After chatting with Patricia for a while, Dora went back to the nurse's station as she resumed her duties, while Patricia sat on the balcony alone, enjoying the scenery outside. The location of this private ward was really very good. From where she sat, she could see the seaside in the distance and was able to appreciate the trees and flowers in the yard of the hospital below.
This was the room that Zac had chosen for her. It really showed just how much he thought of her.
Thinking of this, Patricia recalled what Dora had said just now. She couldn't get those words out of her mind, as if they had been imprinted on her memory. Dora's words resonated in her mind, and she couldn't stop thinking about it. In her heart, she felt like Dora might be right about Zac.
Patricia was so lost in thought that she didn't hear when the door to her room was slowly cracked open by someone, the person's snow-white hands resting on the door handle.
The door was opened quietly. Then the beautiful face of a young woman appeared at the door. With her eyes fixed on Patricia, she pushed the door open quickly and walked directly to her.
"Patricia, you bitch! You are so lucky that you are still alive!" Lyndsy's shrill voice came from behind.
Patricia was shocked to hear her outburst. No sooner had she turned around when Lyndsy's palm connected hard with her face.
Irritated, Patricia immediately stood up. Straightening up her back in front of Lyndsy, she looked over at her coldly. The pain in her cheek was so intense that Patricia felt it was already red and swollen. She could taste the saltiness of her blood in her mouth. Lyndsy's hatred for her was so blatant, it was like she wanted to kill her.
"You bitch! How could you have survived that accident? Lyndsy shouted, glaring at Patricia with anger. Raising her hand again, she was about to deliver another strike to Patricia's face when Patricia grabbed her by the wrist, stopping her in her tracks. Patricia then said, "You are in the hospital, Lyndsy. Please watch your behavior!" Then, with an angry look in her eyes, Patricia shook Lyndsy's hand off with all her strength. But because of her overexertion, she accidentally sprained her back. Patricia felt a sharp pain ring through her body.
Oh my God! I might have a wound dehiscence!' thought Patricia inwardly.
Furrowing her brows, Patricia felt depressed. The lancing pain in her back made her feel like she was being tortured as it got sharper and sharper. It was so much to bear that Patricia was about to lose her balance, her forehead drenched
in sweat.
When Patricia had shaken off her hand, Lyndsy had unconsciously taken a few steps backward. But before her fury could explode on Patricia, she watched Patricia as she turned pale. She couldn't help sneering and gloating at how miserable Patricia looked then.
