If Mayra hadn’t seen the bangle on her wrist, she would’ve thought last night’s events were just a dream.
She waited until 9:00 am before going downstairs to the dining room for breakfast.
Anderson poured her a glass of milk. “Did you not sleep well?”
Mayra shook her head. “No.”
*Shane will go to the hospital with you later. If you haven’t had enough fun, I can help you to get more time off.”
While having the chowder, Mayra said, “Other guardians would want their wards to study hard and get a good job in the future. Why does it seem like you want me to stick around you forever? What kind of a guardian are you?”
Anderson replied, “You don’t have to work so hard. I can support you.”
“Andy, you’re so weird! Are you going to support me even after I get married in the future? Aren’t you worried Isa will get jealous?”
Anderson just smiled. “Mayra, what’s your type?”
Mayra answered bluntly, “I like someone faithful who comes home on time after work, can resist temptations, and whose eyes and heart are only for me.”
‘Well, it seems like you’ve really grown up. You don’t like me anymore and even know how to indirectly criticize me.”
Mayra understood what Anderson meant. “Even without me, you’d still have a lot of admirers…”
Since Mayra kept her head down, she didn’t notice the flicker of
possessiveness in Anderson’s eyes.
After breakfast, Shane took Mayra to the best hospital in Candor City for a full body check–up.
There wasn’t anything serious. The doctor only prescribed some medication and advised her to take care of herself.
By the time they left the hospital, it was almost 2:30 pm.
At the hospital entrance, Mayra said, “Mr. Gorman, you don’t have to drive me home. I can take a cab.”
Shane suggested, “Ms. Sadler, you could stay a few more days in Candor City and return with Mr. Barlow.”
Mayra shook her head. “I don’t want to delay my studies.” This content © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
Shane said, “Ms. Sadler, Mr. Barlow needs someone to look after him.”
“I’m just his younger sister, not someone he keeps around. I can’t stay by his side all the time.” Mayra instantly became irritated.
Then, she calmed down. “If he’s really unwell, he can go to the hospital. Whether it’s Hailey or Isabel, there are many people around him. No matter what, it has nothing to do with me.”
These words didn’t sound like something a 16–year–old girl would say.
Shane explained, “Ms. Sadler, you misunderstood my intention.”
Mayra retorted, “But that’s how it sounded to me. I’m just his sister now, and I always will be! I’ll return to Belchester on my own. You don’t need to escort me, Mr. Gorman.”
Shane exclaimed, “Ms. Sadler!”
Ignoring him, she got into a cab.
When Shane arrived at the venue, the meeting had ended. Anderson walked out of the conference room with one hand in his pocket. “Where is she?”
“Ms. Sadler left on her own. She said…” he recounted everything Mayra had
said.
Anderson frowned. “How dare you say those things to her?”
“I thought…”
Upon noticing Anderson’s icy glare, Shane realized he had said something wrong. “I’m sorry, Mr. Barlow. I’ll clear the misunderstanding with Ms. Sadler
later.”
