Chapter 1221
Sophie stepped out of her room, aiming to find Colby. But as she pushed open the door and headed towards Odie's guestroom, she was met with William's resigned head shake. "What's wrong? Is it serious?" Sophie asked, her voice tinged with concern.
William let out a heavy sigh.
"Don't tell me... something's happened to Odie? Even you can't help him?" Sophie froze, the shock evident on her face.
No wonder Odie had seemed so energetic just a moment ago. It was like a final burst of life.
"It's not that I can't help him, I just feel really sorry for the guy," William replied, his eyes filled with sympathy.
"But why?" Sophie pressed on.
William sighed again and glanced into the room at the unconscious Odie. "Meeting Colby was his bad luck."
Sophie was still in the dark about what had happened until she walked into the guestroom and saw Colby sitting by the bed. A sinking feeling hit her. "What did you do to Odie?"
"Not much," Colby said casually, glancing at Odie on the bed. "Just had William come up with a way to keep him down for a bit."
"Just... that?" Sophie echoed, approaching the bed. Odie's face was paler than before, almost ghostly, as if he was hanging by a thread.
"You had William stab him?" Sophie asked, her voice trembling.
"No," Colby replied.
"Then you had William knock him out?"
"I did the knocking," Colby clarified.
"How hard did you have to hit him to get him like this?" Sophie couldn't wrap her head around it.
Even if Colby wanted revenge, risking Odie's life seemed too extreme.
"The person behind this wants Odie dead, so I took this chance to spread some false info," Colby said.
Sophie started to piece it together. "You mean, by using Timothy's name, you're making Timothy or whoever's behind him believe Odie's almost done for, to trigger their next move?"
"Exactly," Colby confirmed. "Remember when Odie wanted to talk to me alone, and you asked what we talked about?"
"Yeah, you said Odie told you that K Corporation has always been pulling the strings with the Mintons, and the Mintons were their cash cow," Sophie recalled.
Colby continued, "When Odie took
over the Mintons after Jensen died, he wanted to make changes. But he found out the Mintons were too deeply rooted. They had their own intelligence network, controlling secrets and using them to connect with other businesses. You've seen it yourself-the Mintons' gala, their third-floor casino, and their ruthless gambling schemes."
"My Uncle Perry got caught in their trap back then," Sophie said, her voice filled with bitterness.
"Yeah, your Uncle Perry was a pawn. The real target was your father, the head of the family. But your father was too cautious and upright, never getting involved in shady stuff,, So the Mintons went after your Uncle Perry to pressure your dad into paying off the gambling debts or something else."
Sophie frowned, her mind racing.
"Your father refused to pay off your Uncle Perry's debts and even decided to cut ties with him to show those behind the scenes his stance. They'd leave your Uncle Perry alone, seeing him as no longer useful. It was to protect the Russell family, to protect your Uncle Perry. But your Uncle Perry made a drastic move..."
