Chapter 1509
Skylar's smile faltered as she noticed something off in Harvey's tone. He didn't sound as cheerful as usual.noveldrama
"Are you feeling out of place after suddenly graduating and leaving campus? Missing your classmates? Joe and I are at the hot spring resort. Why don't you join us for some fun?"
Joe, overhearing the invitation, raised an eyebrow at Skylar's suggestion. He thought, "Wouldn't Harvey be third-wheeling?"
If Harvey was truly that oblivious, Joe wouldn't hesitate to show him just how "impressive" he could be.
Harvey sighed, tugging at his hair in frustration. "No, it's not that. Someone came by earlier, and said he was Dad."
Skylar's smile disappeared entirely at his words. Without saying anything else, she stood up and walked out of the hot spring pool.
Noticing the change in Skylar's demeanor, Joe realized Harvey's call was far from just a casual chat. It wasn't about being a third wheel.
"What did he say to you?" Skylar asked with a serious tone.
A few days ago, Steven and Charles had mentioned that Finn had reached out to them. He seemed intent on reconnecting, wanting to rekindle a father-son relationship.
But when it came to Finn's sudden return, they all shared the same thought-no one showed up without a reason. Finn's unexpected visit clearly had a purpose, though he hadn't revealed what it was.
A few months ago, they had learned that Finn was in Jipsburg, but out of respect for Janine's life, they decided to pretend they didn't know.
Originally, they believed Finn's disappearance years ago was due to amnesia. But later, they discovered he had been using his real name the entire time.
With his return and sudden attempt to contact them, it was clear that memory loss was no longer a plausible explanation. Finn had ignored the advice from Steven and Charles and had secretly reached out to Harvey. Charles, always sharp, could sense something was off from Skylar's tone. "Skylar, you don't seem surprised that Dad is still alive."
Skylar nodded. "I actually saw him a few months ago. He even visited Steven and Charles a few days back. They told him not to bother you or Mom. I didn't think he'd reach out to you, though."
She was slightly taken aback. Finn had appeared three times now, reaching out to everyone except her. He knew she wasn't his biological daughter.
She also noted that he hadn't gone to see Janine at all. It made Skylar question his true intentions.
"He's even gone to see Steven and Charles! What exactly is he trying to do? Skylar, I remember when we were kids, I envied my classmates who had dads. I hoped that one day mine might come back.
"Everyone said he got lost in an accident and there was no way he could still be alive. Over the years, I thought his photo would be all I'd have left of him.
"But now, when we're grown up and living our own lives, he suddenly shows up again. And I can tell-he's been living well all these years. His clothes are all designer brands.
"If he were poor and desperate, I might have helped him out with some money, just because he's my father. But now? The way he's reappeared... it feels like there's something more to this." Harvey had long let go of any childhood fantasies about his father. Now, as a recent graduate navigating adulthood, he understood all too well-no one resurfaced without a motive.
Skylar could sense the swirl of emotions Harvey was experiencing. After all, Finn was their father.
"Since he came looking for you, he's not likely to give up that easily. He'll probably come to see you again, so be prepared. You need to find out what he wants," Skylar said, though she couldn't figure out why Finn had suddenly shown up.
Though she wasn't Finn's biological daughter, she had some memories of him from her childhood. He had been kind to her.
Harvey replied, "Okay, Skylar, I get it.
If he comes to me again, I'll ask him directly just hope he doesn't go to Mom. She's been through so much over the years, and now she finally has Mr. Read."
"Even if he goes to Mom, it won't change much. If anything, it will just make her sad. He's already built a new family," Skylar said.
Harvey scoffed. "A new family? He sure is living it up! He abandoned his wife and children to live a good life, but now he's probably in some trouble and has come back to us.
"Anyway, don't worry about me. You and Joe enjoy your vacation. I'm an adult now, and I can handle things on my own."
