Ashton’s POV

“Keep the door locked. If you need anything, mind–link me ok?I instruct Rose, who remains fascinated and fully engrossed in the book she had chosen to read.

With that, I earn a curt nod, as she doesn’t even bother to lift her gaze to look at me before I go…..

Maybe I’ll be changing my mind on those damn books stealing all of my girls attention from me,

“I bet it isnow I won’t be gone for too long just stay here I conclude, before heading to the door and exiting locking it over behind me with the key Marcus had given me to keep Rose safe whilst I am gone.

I make my way downstairs to the lounge, finding my own men, Marcus and his Beta all waiting for me there.

“Ahh Alpha Ashton, good news! I think we may have a lead now…” Marcus announces immediately, as I smile in hope that his words would be found to be fact.

That’s just what I was hoping to hear!” I respond to him, the tension in my shoulders easing slightly at the prospect of a lead. We couldn’t afford to waste any more time if we wanted to catch Nathan and his cousins and before the Alpha ball.

“What exactly have you found?” I push on, moving closer to the Alpha of the Shadow Pack and his Beta, eager to hear the details of whatever they had pulled together for my investigation.

Marcus exchanged a quick glance with his Beta, and then he began to explain… One of our scouts recently reported suspicious activity near the old cabin deep in the woods, not too far from here actually. We believe it could be the group you’re looking for as it wasn’t in use at all until a day or two ago apparently.” He states, as I lick my lips eagerly almost tasting the vengeance on them.

I nod briefly, thinking it was a good enough start,

“Ok good. Take us all there will you? We can’t waste any more time. The longer Nathan and his cousins are on the run, the more dangerous and free they become,” I state firmly, as my men take this as a notion for them to stand up and prepare to leave.

Without delay, Marcus gestures for us to follow him out front, shifting in to his large brown wolf as we all follow his lead and do the same. Rose would be left behind, with her book in a locked room, but despite my wolfs inner protests – 1 knew she would be safe without me here. The hunt was on, and I was determined to catch my prey sooner rather than later

As we made our way to the old cabin, through the new pack, my heart raced with anticipation and excitement. This lead was fresh, and the scent of justice hung heavy in the air,

The sun was also noticeably beginning its descent, casting long shadows throughout the dense forest, as the light flickered down on us between the trees – only adding to the overall urgency of our mission.

My park members moved stealthily, their wolf senses on high alert, while Mares and I led the way up front. The dense woods did help to conceal us well, as we closed in on the cabin in question with each step

It wasn’t a fat journey at all, before we reached our destination, and I signaled for the others to halt with me.

The rickety cabin stood before us, weathered and abandoned, but with signs of recent occupation – just as Marcus had suggested.

Barcurs Beta, Eric, fook the lead in investigating the cabin as he stepped forward first. He stently approached the small building, careful not to make

Nobody seems to be inside. Marcus mind–links me, as 1 growl and huff out in response heading to the front door next to look for myself.

Inside the cabin, we found evidence of a hasty departure. Empty cans of food, dirty blankets, and scattered belongings were strewn around the space. It was clear that they had been here and not very long ago either – with the fire still sizzling out in the comer….

Bastards!

I feel my body tense, angered by not finding them here first time, causing the frustration to rise within me. Nathan and his cousins were close though. that for for sure, and I could practically taste their blood from here.

“My border patrol has been increased, it’s almost impossible for them to leave this land tonight! We will find them! I hear Alpha Marcus speak in to my mind again, as I huff back in response

We couldn’t afford to lose their trailnot now when we are so damn close! Almost impossible… isn’t good enough!

I decide to shift momentarily, before moving to the fire–picking out a piece of charred wood that was still burning at the ends.

“We’re on the right path,” I declare to the wolves before me, feeling the woods intense heat in my hand. We have to follow their scent. Marcus, I need your best trackers with us. We’ll find them tonight!” I demand, as Marcus nods his wolf head up at me.

The determination in the room was raised again as Marcus took a moment to mind–link two of his best trackers, before we made our way outside to continue our pursuit.

I wasn’t stupid, and decided to have the full place ransacked before we leave just to ensure that they weren’t being clever and hiding out somewhere inside… but still nothing!

The hunt for Nathan and his cousins was only intensifying with each passing moment now, and quite frankly, it was only pissing me off more!

As Marcus‘ trackers turned up in quick time to meet us, we delved deeper into the woods, as the tension grew with the darker it became.

The forest seemed to close in around us, shadows dancing between the trees with the sun completely settled for the night.

We couldn’t afford to be careless here; they were dangerous and desperate to escape… anything could happent

Their tracking skills were put to the test, but the signs were promising Broken branches, scuffed earth, and faint but distinct traces of their scent marking the path ahead for us with ease.

Every step brought us closer to them, and with each stride, our resolve grew stronger.

The hunt had become a race against time. We were closing in on our quarry, and there was no turning back now. Nathan and his cousins had nowhere left to run or hide, and I was determined to bring them to Justice, once and for all.

Their scents grew stronger, guiding us through the dark woods steadily. We followed it with unwavering determination, knowing that we were closing in on Nathan and his cousins for good.

Finally, the scent led us to a small row of houses on the outskirts of the pack, showing around eight houses in total. They were each fairly spaced from one another, separated by large gardens enclosed with fences.

We followed the trackers towards the two homes on the end, before they half in–front of the second last on the block,

“Who loves here?” I demand to know next, as I watch his wolf head turn back to face the building in question.

I decide that now is the time again to shift, with Alpha Marcus following my lead along

with his Beta.

“Stay alert ment Split up and cover the surroundings of the house.” I state the plan to my pack members, who nod in response, anticipation.

We had the element of surprise on our side so far, and we weren’t about to let it slip away..

Myself, Marcus and Eric approach the home stealthily, pulling to open the creaky gate first.

Before we could make our move to knock, the door swung open abruptly, and a woman stood in the entrance, her eyes wide with fear and shock.

She was a short woman, wrinkled with age and her hair sat in what I would describe to be a birds nest on the crown of her head…

“Alpha? Who is this man? What do you want?!” She stammered, her voice trembling as she shot me a small glare before returning her eyes back to her Alpha.

I stepped forward, my gaze cold and unwavering. “Isabelle Forrest, we’re here for Nathan, Karl and Warren. There are some pretty serious allegations stacked against them. We have reason to believe that they’re hiding out in here in fact, we almost know for certain that they are. I conclude, folding my arms and standing to my full height – watching the women’s lips part.

Isabelle’s face twisted with sudden anger, and she took a step forward, blocking the entrance completely. “You have no right to enter my home! This is an invasion of our privacy. You’re not even the Alpha of our pack!” The women screeches in defence, as I scoff at her blatant Ignorance.

The situation was becoming tense, and I could see her desperation to protest her family – however, her family were scum

“Isabelle, you can either let us in peacefully, and we can resolve this issue, or we can do it the hard way. The choice is yours,” I stated firmly, my patience wearing thin.

But Isabelle’s eyes blazed with anger. “I won’t let you destroy my family or my home! These allegations are lies! It’s Lydia who’s the real abuser, not my son! She always has been an attention seeking little bitch” She deadpans, confirming the truth of it all with her denial.

It seems this woman is just as bad as her son….

“Destroy your home? It seems you have done that on your own! This place is an absolute disgrace and I, your Alpha, is embarrassed for you! Second of all, DO NOT disrespect my guests of this pack! Hand the boys over or you will be branded a criminal beside them!” Marcus speaks up with authority next, seeming irritated by his pack members tantrum.

Your son is a member of my pack! He and his cousins have been involved in crimes against one of my pack members and will be punished accordingly. We have evidence to prove it too so don’t bullshit me.” I countered, my voice laced with sheer anger.

But Isabelle wasn’t listening. She was desperate, and in her desperation, she began to shout, accusing Lydia and deflecting blame. Her outburst infuriated me further.

I couldn’t afford to let Nathan and his cousins slip away, not now…

“Enough!” I roared, my wolf’s presence surging to the forefront. “We’re coming in, whether you like it or not.” I state, and with that, I shove my way past the small female, almost sending her landing on her butt, as she screeches and throws her hands up in to the air.

With a swift motion, my pack members move in and begin to breach the home too. The doors were pushed open, and the place began to be swiftly

searched.

It didn t take long to find Nathan and his cousins hiding in a back room.

I’ll make these men wish th they’d never been bom…
