Shattered Illusions: Love, Lies, and Redemption

Chapter 604

Martin's voice was firm, "I told Stella, Remington. If you have suspicions and think this has anything to do with the West family, then bring forth the evidence. Call the cops for interrogation, make it so the West family has no room to argue! Otherwise, you owe Stella an apology!"

Martin knew Remington had no evidence. If he did, he wouldn't be standing here alone; he would have had the police here already.Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.

Thus, Martin was exceptionally calm, and equally indignant.

Remington glared at them, his voice cold, "I may not have proof, but last night, when Hans made his move, and Evelina happened to fall and go into difficult labor, pulling me away... Don't you think that's a bit too coincidental?"

Hans had only been out of jail for a short while. Alone, he couldn't possibly have that much influence.

Regrettably, despite pressing Hans earlier, Hans truly didn't know who was behind it all.

Someone had simply provided Hans with money, a place to hide, and assistance, yet had never shown their face.

The mastermind was cautious, making several indirect moves in their dealings with Hans.

But Remington wasn't entirely empty-handed; he just needed more time to investigate.

"Remington, the guards watching over Evelina were your men. Evelina's fall was just an accident. How can you baselessly suspect me because of this?" Stella asked in disbelief.

She swayed, her voice hoarse from a prior injury, now even rougher and more unrecognizable as she cried.

Covering her neck, she wept silently, then said, "I've already agreed to leave the country. What more do you want? This is too much. Did you bring me back just to torment me like this? Even if you're deeply in love with Lizetta, you can't hurt me like this... I have feelings too..."

Remington looked at her, his icy gaze softening, as if her performance had persuaded him.

He slightly closed his eyes and said, "If after the investigation, it turns out the West family is not involved, I will apologize. But if there's something you've done, it won't be flawless. If I find evidence, I won't let it go!"

He turned and left; the door to the room closed behind him. Stella collapsed to the ground.

She looked up at Martin in panic.

"What do we do? He suspects the West family..."

Martin remained composed,

scoffing, and sat back down, flicking off the stains on his hospital gown interrupting Stella, "Why panic? If he suspects the West family, it shows his ingratitude. After all the West family has suffered because of him, how dare he suspect us! Let him investigate. What does this have to do with us, the West family?"

When Remington returned to Lizetta's room half an hour later, he was about to open the door

He was taken aback, his fists clenched at the sight of who stood behind it.

It was Lizetta.

She was dressed in a black dress,

hat, supported by Yolanda.

The all-black attire made her already pale face look even more colorless.

She had always been slender, and now, dressed in the coat, she looked even more fragile.

It was attire fit for a funeral.

Remington's expression changed, and he frowned, "What are you doing?! Who let you get out of bed!"

He took a step forward, instinctively bending down to pick her up and take her back to bed.

Lizetta raised her hand, stepping back, her voice clear and cold.

"Don't touch me. Let's head to the courthouse now."
