Shattered Illusions: Love, Lies, and Redemption

Chapter 616

Lizetta leaned emotionlessly against the headboard, her gaze icy as she observed his frustration and anxiety. She felt no thrill of revenge, just an overwhelming numbness. "Remington, isn't this what you wanted? You've been pushing me to the edge. I wish I could lose my mind so I wouldn't have to deal with you anymore."

Her voice was flat, devoid of emotion, sending shivers down his spine. His face turned pale, cold sweat lining his handsome features. He thought bitterly of her ruthlessness. She knew he cared about her, yet she used herself as a weapon against him. Her disdain for his love and her trampling on his feelings were evident.Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.

Remington's handsome face darkened, and after a moment, he suddenly grasped her wrist, his gaze piercing as he said coldly, "Lizetta, Hans is dead, but the people behind Hans are still out there. If you want to avenge Daisy, you'll have to stay right here, by my side!"

Lizetta was unaware of Hans's death. She thought she had been saved, that Nelson had called the cops and Hans had been arrested. Blinking, a sharp, resentful light ignited in her dull eyes as she stared at Remington.

"What do you mean?" Her voice trembled with hatred. Engulfed in the grief of losing her baby and the guilt of her misjudgments, she hadn't had the time to think it all through. She had believed Hans, fearing another jail term, had attempted to kidnap her for ransom. But now, it seemed impossible for Hans to have orchestrated such an elaborate plan alone.

"Was there a signal jammer in the car that night, and that call from the hospital about my brother being critically ill..."

Lizetta remembered trying to

contact Remington from the car, but

the call wouldn't go through. She

had thought it was due to bad weather, but once she escaped the car, Remington's call came through. Clearly, the signal had been jammed, and that nurse's call... Hans must have been waiting to make his move; that call couldn't have been made by him. s.net

"Was it the West family? It had to be the Wests, right?"

Lizetta gripped Remington's arm tightly, rage filling her eyes. The West family hated her, blamed her for blocking Stella's path, and for Barbara's death because of her. Ine Luminesia, they had failed, so they plotted a more sinister kidnapping, using someone else to do their dirty work. That night, coincidentally, Stella had called Remington out to the outskirts. Other than the West family, she couldn't think of anyone else.

Seeing Stella at the hospital nursery today, Lizetta regretted not acting sooner. She shouldn't have just slapped Stella; she should have stabbed her!

"Stella! She even wore a festive red today, flaunting her victory in front of me!"

Lizetta trembled with emotion,

utterly distraught. Remington hadn't wanted to tell her all this, knowing her fragile state wasn't suited for such emotional turmoil. But her apathetic, self-loathing demeanor worried him. He thought if hatred could ignite her will to fight, to care for herself, then let her hate. He thought, at least they shared the same enemy, the same hatred.

But then Lizetta suddenly pushed him away, her eyes filled with sorrow and suspicion as she murmured, "How foolish of me to ask you, if it really was the West family, you'd probably just cover for them."
