Chapter 6
Chapter 6 Finding Jake
At that moment,
it, Gwen was already standing in the departure hall of the airport while staring at her phone screen, which had already dimmed. Finally, she let out a long breath.
Perhaps she had spent far too long being all pent–up in Hall Manor. Right now, she felt extremely relieved.
As Gwen looked at the passengers, who hurried toward their own destinations, she wondered if she was saddened by the idea of leaving Bellmont. Perhaps she was, but she was mainly filled with relief.
In the past, Gwen thought Jake didn’t love her at all. Now, she finally understood the truth. He was merely in love with another woman. She might as well give up on him right away instead of getting stuck in this rut.
After that, Gwen headed to the check–in counter to begin her check–in process. She had already booked a ticket to Dornwick some time ago.
Back then, she left her family and hid her identity to stay in Bellmont. If not for the fact that her grandfather, Marlon Lawson, wished to see her and Jake at the medical expo in Dornwick, he wouldn’t have signed over the project to Hall Group in the first place.
But Jake didn’t care about Gwen at all In the end, he chose to dispatch her on the business trip on her own. Now, it was time for her to return to her family. All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
“Hi there, miss. This ticket has been canceled. We can’t print out the boarding pass for you at the moment.” The attendant of the business class counter turned Gwen’s request down politely.
“It got canceled?” Gwen replied, a mixture of shock and disbelief apparent on her face. “That can’t be it! Can you help me check the information again?”
“Did you use your company’s account to book this ticket? Someone may have canceled your ticket on that account. I need you to show me your ID.”
That was when Gwen realized what was going on. Since she was Jake’s secretary, all of her accounts were arranged for her by Hall Group.
As for her ID, she had given it to the HR department to register for something that she couldn’t quite remember..
This time, Gwen was in a pinch. She was so absorbed in leaving the city which had broken her heart that she forgot to consider everything.
“Excuse me, but I need to make a phone call regarding my ID.”
Gwen left the check–in counter while pulling out her phone so that she could call the HR department of Hall Group, but she couldn’t make the call no matter what. It showed that her number no longer existed,
up was in charge
Goosebumps crawled over Gwen’s scalp at that moment. How could she have forgotten that Hall Group of registering her phone number as well?
Hall Group… Damn it! That company was now plaguing her like a ghost!
After exiting the airport, Gwen quickly flagged down a cab and made her way to Hall Group. It began raining a few moments after that. Soon, the skyscraper could be seen right in front of the cab.
Gwen gave the cab driver 20 dollars once he stopped. Then, she rushed into Hall Group’s futuristic–looking lobby with her suitcase in tow.
Thankfully, news of her resignation had yet to spread. Her hair was already drenched from the rain, resulting in her locks being plastered messily across her face. She had to scan her face a few times to activate the elevator and enter it.
There, Gwen hit the 12th–floor button. That was where the HR department was located.
“Oh dear, Ms. Lawson! You look so wretched! One might think you’re a refugee!”
The HR m.
The HR manager was Jason Bloom, an effeminate man who always kept his pinky pointed upward to show his feminine

charms. He was a professional bootlicker as well.
After observing how uncaring Jake was toward Gwen, Jason became accustomed to ordering her around as well.
“Where’s my ID?” Gwen cut to the chase right away. She couldn’t be bothered to waste her breath on Jason right now.
“Your ID? How unfortunate. Two minutes ago, Mr. Jett dropped by and took it from me. I have no idea where it is right now.”
Gwen was astonished, to say the least. Then again, she should’ve known that this would happen.
Jake was a brutal and decisive businessman. He would never change his mind once it was made. In fact, he was famous for being a heartless demon in Bellmont. There was no way he’d allow Gwen to use such methods to challenge his authority.
Gwen was about to look for Jake with her luggage when Jason called out to her. That demeanor of his showed that he was either up to no good, or he was purely taunting her.
“It’s fine if you get fired, but you should at least mind your manners. The top brass is having a meeting on the top floor. It’s a pretty important meeting. Also, I heard that Mr. Hall’s fiancée is there too.”
