After making that remark, Simon deliberately glanced at Winston, who shot daggers at him expressionlessly.
Smirking, Simon left the room with satisfaction. The moment the door closed, Winston clenched his fist.
Millie asked, “Aren’t you leaving?”
He quickly turned to Millie and laughed wryly. “It hasn’t been five minutes since I arrived with food for you, but you’re already kicking me out.”
On the contrary, she offered to see Simon off. He thought, “She’s certainly had a quick change of heart,
hasn’t she?”
Checking the time, she grumbled, “But it’s been more than five minutes…”
He glared at her speechlessly.
Pouting, she gave in. “Fine.” Her attitude softened when she pointed at the chair. “Have a seat please, Mr. Greer.”
He plopped on the chair angrily and opened the food container. “Mom wants me to make sure you finish the food.”
When he noticed Simon’s food, he criticized Simon’s choices, “You can’t take all these junk foods when you’re hospitalized.”
“Those aren’t junk food!” she immediately retorted.
Narrowing his eyes at her, he thought, “No?” He seemed to be challenging her to speak up for Simon.
She chuckled sheepishly. “Well, it’s a kind gesture from him.”
“A kind gesture? I’m not sure if his motives are pure,” he muttered through gritted teeth.
“Isn’t that pretty normal? I’m a young lady in my prime. Can’t I have admirers?” She reached for the fork, but he slapped her on the back of her hand.
She recoiled, thinking, “What’s wrong with him?”
Winston shot a disgruntled look at her. Sighing, she resigned to resting against her headboard.
“Millie Caldwell, you need to keep your distance from Simon before we’re officially divorced!” he warned.
Her eyes widened in surprise. Why, though?
“Because it’s shameful,” he remarked coldly.
Frowning, she argued, “But what about you and Joanna?”
“When have I done that with Joanna?” he immediately bellowed at her.
She was stunned by his raised voice and simultaneously confused by his accusation.
Placing his fork on the table, he inched closer to her. Propping himself against the headboard, he carried a look of contempt on his face. “A man and a woman running after each other around the fountain. Oh, how sweet!”

Speechless, she explained, “That’s just what friends do. We happened to be in the mood for a water fight. Anything wrong with that? Besides, it wasn’t just me and him. There were-”
Ignoring her explanation, he moved closer. “How dare you twist the facts?”
Her gaze zoomed into his eyes. She replied in all seriousness, “I did not.”
“Millie,” he croaked, his tone filled with unreadable emotions.
She continued staring into his eyes. When he was about to speak, she beat him to it. She asked calmly,” Does that bother you?”
He paused.
Pressing her lips together, she repeated, “Does it bother you to see me with Simon?”
She caught the obvious trembling of his lashes. Smiling, she asked, “Do you know you’re acting weird lately?”
As if being exposed, he looked flustered and avoided her eyes.
She held his collar, forcing him to look at herself. His gaze thickened with inexplicable emotions.
“Winston Greer,” she began with seriousness, a sarcastic look in her eyes. “Have you fallen for me?” she joked.
Winston hadn’t expected that question from Millie. He removed her hand, but she grabbed his collar again, forcing him to look at her.
She insisted, “Answer me!”
He stared at her with a conflicted expression. Something hit him where it hurt the most.
Her question echoed in his mind. He asked himself if he had truly fallen for her. NôvelDrama.Org content.
