Chapter 386

Millle blinked in surprise and saw Rachel nod. She then grabbed Millie’s arm, clearly wanting her friend to come along.

“Alright.”

They had arranged to meet at a private restaurant on the 30th floor. The place ensured complete privacy, with no one around from the underground parking lot to the elevator ride up. Moreover, the elevator doors opened directly into the restaurant.

A server led them inside, took a left turn, and pointed them to a private room.

“Thank you.” Laura nodded, signaling that the server could leave.

Laura knocked on the door, and in no time, a deep male voice from inside said, “Come in.”

As soon as they opened the door, Millie and Rachel saw Jake sitting in the center of the room. He was dressed in a black suit. It was evident that he took the meeting seriously.

Rachel then removed her mask and hat. After that, Laura dragged her to stand before Jake.

Jake was sitting on the couch. Rachel stood in front of him, her expression hard to describe.

Laura glanced at Rachel before saying sharply, “Apologize to Mr. Webson.”

Jake eyed Rachel with his eyebrows slightly raised. In all honesty, this was putting Rachel in a difficult

position.

She had a fiery personality and disliked Jake, so apologizing to him was especially frustrating for her. Still, she knew she was at fault.

“Say something!” Laura nudged Rachel’s arm.

On the other hand, Millie was seated across from Jake. In contrast to Rachel’s stiff demeanor, she

was much more relaxed.

Unfortunately, despite Rachel’s celebrity status, she still had to obey her manager. As her lips parted, she met Jake’s eyes.

Rachel’s gaze drifted down, and she immediately noticed the hickey on his neck, leaving her at a loss. for words. Jake waited patiently for her to continue as he sensed her discomfort.

Rachel had gone over how to apologize and thank Jake so many times that she knew every flattering line by heart. Yet, when she finally faced him, she found herself at a loss for words, especially at the sight of the hickey.

Her frustration was palpable. Why did it have to be Jake? Just why?

Laura sighed and nudged Rachel again.

Rachel, frowning, began, “Mr. Webson, I’m-”

“Forget it,” Jake suddenly interrupted.

Given Rachel’s pride, apologizing was nearly impossible for her. Jake cut her off abruptly, causing her to blink in surprise.

Right then, she heard him say, “Take a seat, superstar.”

Though Jake had interrupted Rachel’s apology, she insisted, “I’m sorry for causing you trouble.”

Jake was momentarily stunned. He looked at Rachel, whose sincerity was evident. So, he chuckled and replied, “It’s no big deal. I don’t mind at all.”

“If you need any compensation, I-”

Rachel had just started to speak when he cut her off again. “What do you have in mind? Just so you know, I don’t need you to offer yourself in return.”

Rachel was rendered speechless. Who said anything about offering herself?

Meanwhile, Millie rested her chin on her hand and shot Jake a disapproving look.

“Jake, stop flirting with her,” she warned.

Jake cleared his throat lightly. Then, he said, “Laura, we’re all friends here. There’s no need to be formal. Come, sit down. Let’s have dinner together and consider this matter settled.”

“Oh, so we’re friends then? That’s fantastic!” Laura laughed heartily. Only then did her tight nerves relax briefly.

After all, this was Jake. The Webson Group was an influential company, second only to the Greer Group. Offending him could make life difficult for Rachel.

“Take a seat,” Jake offered, glancing at Rachel.

She intended to sit next to Millie. However, Laura had already taken that spot. Now, the only available chair was next to Jake.

After a short pause, Rachel sat down. Laura cast her a meaningful look, prompting her to pick up her

cup.

“Mr. Webson, I’m truly sorry,” Rachel apologized in a gentle tone.
