Chapter 274
Chapter 274
Andre asked worriedly, "What are you doing? You didn't respond to my messages."
"Ah, I was having a chat so didn't check my phone." Mia said.
"You didn't meet with Leo or Molly, did you?" Andre asked.
Mia swore she didn't. Andre responded, "Come find me at the office when you're done."
"Okay, darling, see you." Mia said.
Mia returned to the hospital room and told the patient in the bed, "Michael, I'm leaving. You should take
some rest."
Michael stopped her, "Hey, I thought we had a nice chat. Let's exchange contacts. If you ever want to
go ghost hunting, I can arrange it. I promise not to scare you."
Mia retorted, "You need to have the nerve to scare me first. As long as you're not afraid of ending up
back here."
Nevertheless, she took out her phone and exchanged contacts with Michael. She looked at Michael
with a mischievous grin.
Michael nervously said, "Your smile makes me hesitate to save your number."
Mia suddenly thought of some people and said, "You might be able to help me in the future. If that
opportunity arises, I'm willing to pay to hire you."
Michael replied, "Can I delete you from my contacts now?"
Mia waved him off and left cheerfully. She had been feeling guilty for a couple of days, but after talking
to Michael, she felt a lot better. She happily ran off to find her husband at the office.
It was holiday time at the company. Havenbrook's train stations and airports were packed. Cars
stretched in long lines at the highway entrance.
Mia, a native of Havenbrook, didn't need to leave. Molly usually packed her bags to visit her
grandparents at this time of the year. This year, the elderly couple were spending Christmas in
Havenbrook. Grandpa Elmer was already discharged from the hospital and back in good health.
Chad sorted out the police station's shifts and was also off duty.
Donnie asked, "Sir, why don't you go home on Christmas Eve and let us go home instead?"
Chad answered impatiently, "Just go. If you want to stay, you can work the night shift and I'll go home."
"No, I'm going home. My girlfriend is waiting for me." Donnie said.
Donnie quickly left. Only two senior officers and two rookies were left.
"Captain, it should be Bob's turn to work this Christmas. Why are you covering for him?" Someone
asked Chad.
Chad took a piece of toast from the fridge, their dinner for the night.
"Bob's wife just had their second child. Making him work, especially on Christmas Eve, would be
inhumane." As Chad nibbled on his toast he continued, "I'm a loner, with no family, no kids and no wife.
At least I have you guys for company while on duty."
Another officer asked, "Captain, won't your sister come looking for you at the station? You used to
spend every Christmas with her."
Chad thought of Molly and said, "She's probably having dinner right now."
Just as he finished his piece of toast and reached for another, one of the officers pointed towards the
door where a girl in a hat stood, "Ha, speak of the devil, here she is coming to find her brother."
Molly appeared at the door, wrapped in a scarf and holding a thermal food box. Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
Chad was surprised by the teasing and turned to see his sister at the door, her face half-covered by a
scarf, showing a pair of eyes that looked slightly upset, and holding a thermal food box.
"Molly." He left his toast and quickly pulled his sister inside, "Weren't you with the Cedillos? Why are
you here?"
Molly looked like she had been crying.
Chad pointed at the toast on the table and told his subordinates, "Help yourselves."
He took Molly back to his office, cranked up the heater, and removed her scarf and hat. He held her
face in his hands, "Let me check you out. Did the Cedillos make you upset?"
Molly shook her head and placed the dinner she brought on Chad's desk, "Merry Christmas, Chad.
You're always my favorite."
Chad let out a sigh of relief and leaned on his desk, looking at Molly, "Just to wish me a merry
Christmas, you ran all the way here. Do you know how much you scared me?"
Molly knew that special occasions always made people miss their families more. The family she
wanted to have was not only the Cedillos, but also the Byrnes.
During Christmas, the hustle and bustle of the Cedillos reminded her of the Byrnes. But with the
Byrnes, she would remember that her biological father was still waiting for her. She couldn't be with
both families at the same time.
Naturally, she had to be with her father from the Cedillos, but when she called Coleen to ask about the
situation at home, Coleen said, "We just had something simple and went to bed. Your grandparents are
old and can't stay up late. With you and your brother not at home, your dad and I plan to go to bed
early too."
"Where did my brother go?" Molly asked.
Coleen casually said, "You're not home for Christmas, he doesn't have anyone to spend it with, so he is
working at the station."
Molly felt a bit upset.
Hansen noticed his daughter's mood and asked her, "What's wrong?"
Molly didn't hide it from her father, "Dad, I miss my brother."
Hansen immediately had the housekeeper pack their dinner and accompanied Molly to the police
station, which moved Molly greatly. She was loved by so many people and didn't know how to repay
their love.
In the end, she only had the kitchen prepare a burger to put in the box. She said, "My brother and his
teammates will probably just grab something quick for dinner. It's Christmas, so restaurants might not
be delivering. They all like burgers in his team, and my brother does too."
Then, Hansen accompanied his daughter to the police station. Upon arrival, he told Molly to get off the
car, "I'll wait for you in the car."
Molly went in alone.
Upon learning this, Chad was both amused and exasperated. It was no doubt a touching scene, as he
held his sister close, and she did the same.
He hugged Molly tight, whispering in her ear, "I'll be home early once I wrap up work in a few days. I'll
wait for you at home."
"Chad, you don't need to wait for me. Come and pick me up." Molly answered.
Holding the sister he adored, Chad indulgently agreed, "Alright, I'll come get you after work."
Having shared a couple of burgers with Chad in the office, Molly felt a bit better, "Chad, I'm spending
Christmas with you, don't feel lonely, okay?"
Chad laughed and replied, "Sure thing, I won't feel lonely."
Glancing at the time, Molly realized she had been here for a while. Her dad was still waiting for her
outside.
"I need to go now. My dad's waiting for me outside." Molly said.
"I'll walk you out." Chad said.
Holding Molly's hand, Chad walked out of the police station. Once outside, he put a hat on Molly,
zipped up her coat, and reminded her, "I'll be right here in Havenbrook. Have a good Christmas with
the Cedillo family. Don't overthink. We're neither pitiful nor lonely."
"Oh, I don't need to worry about you." Molly teased.
