Move on
Maya.
People always say just move on. As if it’s that easy. When you have a strong connection with someone, it’s not very easy to let go and move on. For a while after they disappear, you keep hoping that they will come back. That they will realise how amazing you were and realise you’re the only one for them. If they don’t come back, it really affects you especially when you don’t get closure. After waiting for Zane to turn up after days, I decided to go and confront him at his residence since Harry told me had not been showing up at work. I just wanted to hear it from his mouth that it had all been a game and he no longer wanted me. I had tried to forget him but it seemed I first needed to hear that in order to move on.
The apartment was in an upscale area of town in a magnificent building, the type of building that I could only dream of living in. the security officer told me that Zane was not around which was a disappointment.
“Did he go to Misenium city?” I asked.
“I don’t know,” he said. “The fact that you don’t know where he is signals that he doesn’t want you to know, either. Have some dignity. Leave the man alone. You’re a very beautiful woman. I’m sure there are lots of men who want you. It’s a pity that you women always want those who don’t want you.”
Those cold words from the security guard was what I needed to hear in order to put that nonsense behind me. It was time for me to forget about Zane Carrington and move on. The guard was right. If Zane wanted me to know where he was, he would have told me.
A few minutes later, I was trudging up the stairs of my home. I was exhausted, both physically and emotionally. I decided to go and pack my things so I could go for a vacation, away from anything that reminded me of Zane. When I entered my living room, I felt like something was amiss. I glanced at the door again. I was a hundred percent sure that I had just opened it. Why then, did I feel there was someone inside? Did the apartment manager let someone in?
I glanced at the table and the couch. Everything seemed untouched, except…there was a slight depression on the couch. I had not sat on it since morning. My heartbeat increased pace as I tiptoed towards the kitchen. I heard movement and that prompted me to run towards the front door. My heart nearly stopped when I found Zane standing there. He grabbed me and placed a hand on my mouth, muffling my scream for help.
“I promise I’m not here to hurt you,” he said.
Immediately, my body relaxed. For some reason, I actually believed him. I turned and faced him as he let me go.
“What are you doing in my house, Zane Carrington? Most importantly, how did you get in?”Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
“Let’s sit,” he said. “I will tell you everything.”
“I won’t sit until I know what is going on here.”
“Suit yourself,” he said and went to sit on the couch. Reluctantly, I followed suit.
“I love you, Maya.”
I chuckled. “You have a funny way of showing it. Do you think I’m a fool, Zane Carrington. Something else is going on here.”
“Yes. We are destined to be together. You and I destined mates.”
“Did you escape from the asylum?” I asked, losing my patience. “I don’t have time for this nonsense,” I pulled out my phone. “I’m going to call the cops if you continue to sprout nonsense like this. I just went to your house looking for you after you ghosted me. Now you’re here saying things that don’t make sense.”
“You went looking for me?”
“That’s beside the point.”
“No, there’s a reason you fell for me so fast, a reason you feel safe around me even though we haven’t known each other for long.”
“Of course, there is. I’m a stupid girl infatuated with you, but it ends now. I’m done.”
Zane stood up. “I’m a werewolf.”
I shook my head. “Any other time, I would have laughed at this. But, this is not funny. If I’m stuck here listening to you, I may as well get myself a drink.” I stood up and went to the kitchen. I grabbed a bottle of wine and two glasses then brought them to the living room. “I’m sad, depressed and lonely. I might as well listen to your silly stories while drinking because I have nothing else better to do.”
“This is not a joke.”
“Whatever, just tell your silly stories? So, you’re a werewolf. Are you a big bad werewolf like those in horror movies or are you the nice heartthrob in romance and fantasy fiction? Are you here to take me to your pack?” I said before laughing. “Yeah, this is actually funny when one is drinking. Tell me more, Zane. Are you the alpha of a pack or what?”
“Yes,” he said.
I laughed. “Hey sit and drink with me. Did I ever tell you that I’m a mermaid?” I laughed some more. “Yeah, I get a fish-like body when in water.”
“This is not funny. I’m the alpha of Bloodmoon pack and you are my mate. I came to this city solely for you. I was the one who attacked Aaron, and just so you know that vampire is alive. What were you thinking going off with him in the dark? He could have bitten you.”
“This story is getting ridiculous,” I said. “I’m going to get some chips. Want some?”
Zane sat down and started to pour himself a glass of wine while I went to get snacks from the kitchen.
“Where were we?” I asked when I got back. I sat down and gulped the wine in my glass.
“Maya, we don’t have time to waste. You’re in danger and we have to go to Misenium.”
“When I first saw you, I thought you were a great reasonable guy. For you to come here and make up things just to avoid accountability says a lot about you. You ghosted me and now you want me to take you back but I won’t do it this time. I won’t be a doormat…”
I started to feel weak, my vision getting blurry. “What is going on?”
Zane just stared at me. A few seconds later, my eyes widened in realisation. He had drugged me. I tried to scream but my voice was barely a whisper. The world slowly faded into darkness.
