The Billionaire’s Ex-Wife (Her Ex-Husband’s Regret) Chapter 13

Cassie.

When we were married… you have been making love to a man whose entire being w

Every time he made love to you there was no one else in his mind but

you…

was consumed by his desire for you….

These words keep echoing in my mind as I look out the window of the limousine that’s taking me home.

What the hell does he mean by those words?

gour marriage. I have been loyal to him, and I know that he knows

I have only been with one man in my entire life! During our

that.

But he couldn’t mean himself, could he? Because the entire time we were together, he blamed me for forcing him into a marriage that he didn’t want. And he made it clear that he had always wanted to marry Megan because of some past connection bullshit!

I had been the perfect wife. During our marge, I learned to cook his favorite dishes. I supervised the preparation of his suits, even though he had a perfectly abled butler who could do that for him. I waited for him when he got back from work to make sure his dinner and everything else he needed for the night was taken care of. When he wanted relief, I was there warm his bed. He need not even ask. When he woke up in the morning, his outfit for the day was lined up in his and he had a full breakfast and hot coffee waiting for him before he left for work.

But none of that made him soft towards me. When he looked at me, his expression was ice cold. And in his eyes, I could see a hint of loathing.

So what the fuck did he mean by the words he said to me tonight?

I am still in deep thought when I enter my penthouse hotel suite

“Mommy!” My thoughts are interrupted when a beautiful young boy rushes towards me and throws himself into my arms. “I missed you so much!”

I hug my son tightly, finding comfort in his tiny arms.

I know more about

you

than you think….

Suddenly, I am alarmed when I remember the words that Kayden said.

What does that mean? And how much does he know? Should I worry about losing my son to his father?

“Is it true? Is it true?” Kai asks, his eyes sparkling with excitement

“What is?”

“That I have a grandma?”

I smile at him and ruffle his hair. “Yes. So you better sleep early tonight, as we’re visiting her tomorrow.”

“Yey! I am so happy!” Kai said, pulling away from me. “Gideon and Theo have grandmothers. And they buy them all the Hot Wheels toys in Toys R Us!”

“Is that so? But I can do that too, you know.”

Kai shakes his head. “No, you won’t,” he says firmly. “You always say. This is too expensive!’ and you make me clean my room before you buy me a toy.”

It’s just that I didn’t grow up in luxury. Most of my toys, gadgets and clothes were hand-me-downs from Megan. I have always been scared that Kai may not have enough when he grows up, plus, I have his medical bills and a bone marrow transplant to worry about.

“It’s okay, Mommy,” Kai says, noticing my gloomy expression. “I know you work hard for me, ‘coz I don’t have a daddy

1 gulp. How did this kid get to be so smart for his age?

“Theo said his Daddy works in the office. And his mommy just cooks food and cleans the house,” he continues. “But I don’t have a Daddy. That’s why you have to work in the office, right. Mommy?”

“Well, in a way, yes,” I reply. “But even if you have a Daddy, Mommy can work, too.”

He drew his brows together. “But why?”

I shrug. Kai’s questions are getting more and more difficult to answer.

“Because. Mommies can always choose what they want to do. Even if there’s a Daddy, who earns the money”

“But I don’t want you to work, Mommy.” He reaches forward and touches my cheek with his tiny fingers. “When I grow up, 1 will be the one work. That way, you can do what Theo’s Mom always does.”

“And what is that?”

“Stay in the salon all day!” Kai laughs, and I laugh with him. But deep inside, I feel very touched that at his age, he realizes how much I love him. And that he wanted to do something to help me.

I pull him towards me and hug him. “Kai… what if… what if you meet your father?”

Silence.

I am not

said I don’t have one,” he whispers. I can hear the pain in his voice.

“Well… hypothetically… if… you do meet your father, what… what would you ask him?”

“I would ask…” he starts. “Why he doesn’t… want us?”

I close my eyes, as I feel a twist in my chest. I realize just now that I may have tried my best to keep my child innocent and happy, but I haven’t shielded him from the pains of divorce. Behind his smiles, he has questions. He observes the world around him and he feels that something is missing. Even though he loves me very much, he still needs a father figure.

Tears start to well up in my eyes. I feel my chest start to tighten. As I hug my son, I can feel my body start to tremble.

“What’s wrong. Mommy?” Kai asks.

I take deep breaths, trying to compose myself.

“No,” Lyn assures him. “Mommy’s just tired, sweetie. She needs to rest, too.”

“Are you okay?” Lyn appears behind me. “I knew it! You were doing so well. But now, you’re having a relapse.”

For years, I have been trying my best to cope with depression. It started after 1 had Kai. I thought it was due to my pregnancy. But months after I got Kai, I still have trouble sleeping, I get cold sweats and anxiety attacks. I was diagnosed with clinical depression and had to take antidepressants to manage my symptoms.

I had been feeling much better for a few months now, so I didn’t have to take my medication as frequently. Until recently… “Book me an appointment with Doctor Shim as soon as we get back to New York.”

“I couldn’t agree with you more,” she responds. “You shouldn’t have taken the King’s Legend trap that Kayden Steele threw on you.”

“I had to, I say. “It’s the only way I can secure the company for my family. Besides, I have help. You and Ethan are going to help me through it.”

Lyn sighs, shaking her head. I watch the worried expression on his face.

“What is it, Lyn? You know you

can tell

me.”

“I’m scared that this won’t be the last challenge that Kayden will put you through.”

“Why do you think that?”

“You want me to be honest?” she asks.

1 nod.

“Because I think Kayden Steele is not just after your grandfather’s company.”

“But what else could he want?”

Lyn gives me a meaningful look. “I think that more than King’s Court, your ex-husband is after… you.”
