MISTAKE 65
Chapter 65: A Treat
Anya entered the dining room, greeted by the warm aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the sound of her family’s chatter. Her mother–in–law chatted loudly as usual while her father–in- law replied with a few hums here and there. Daniel sat next to Rodney, deep in conversation. She smiled as she took her seat at the table; this feeling was something she had always yearned for. Since her mother got sick, he had not had the chance to feel this atmosphere. “Good morning, Anya dear,” Wendy said with a warm smile as she poured Anya a cup of coffee. “How are you feeling today?”
Anya returned the smile, feeling a sense of warmth wash over her at Wendy’s motherly aura. Good morning, Mrs. Shaw,” she replied. “I’m feeling much better, thank you.”
“What, Mrs. Shaw. Mum.” Wendy Corrected.
“Mum,” Anya called to the approval of the rest.
“Dad, grandpa,” Wendy guided her, gesturing to Mr. Shaw and Old Master Rhodes.
Anya’s ears turned red under their expectant gaze as she also called to them, “Dad, Grandpa, good morning,” she greeted, and they both nodded.
“It seems you are doing better today. It is Daniel’s fault for not fixing this sooner and letting you suffer. Don’t worry, Grandpa will support you to let him kneel on the washboard,” Old Master Rhodes said.
Mr. Shaw nodded in agreement, his expression filled with paternal concern. “You can do what you want with him, Anya,” he admitted, his voice gruff but sincere. “But it’s good to see you looking brighter today.”
Anya’s face turned red from the teasing. She could tell they had seen the forums. But her heart

swelled with gratitude at Mr. Shaw’s words. She had yearned for people. When she and Daniel divorced, she had thought she would not get another chance to see them again. She was grateful to be back. She had to admit; she missed them..
“Thank you,” she said in almost a whisper, but they all heard her.
Her maternal grandfather–in–law, Mr. Rhodes St., grunted in agreement, his expression stern but affectionate. “You’re part of this family now, Anya,” he declared firmly. “And we take care
of our own.”
Tears well up in Anya’s eyes at his words. But she held it back. She had wanted this for so long. Even when she first married Daniel, she did not feel that she truly belonged. But now she felt that they were really family.
“Eat up, dear,
Wendy pushed a plate of food towards her.
As they began to enjoy their breakfast together, Wendy turned to Anya with a smile. “Anya. dear, I was thinking,” she began, her voice gentle. “You’ve been through so much lately. Why don’t you take some time to relax today?” Wendy’s eyes were full of expectation when she spoke. It was clear she was thinking that Anya should agree.
Anya’s eyes widened in surprise at the suggestion. “I wouldn’t want to impose,” she said.
Wendy waved off her concerns with a dismissive gesture. “Nonsense, dear,” she insisted.
Think about it, spa, chopping, a visit to the salon,” Wendy seemed to entice her.
“All in one day?” Anya asked.
“Why not? Besides, Daniel is paying,” she said and turned to Daniel, who was watching them quietly all this while. “Hurry and drop your card,” she ordered.
“Here,” Daniel said, taking out his card, and his mother sent him a dirty look

“Why do you still have this, anyway? What use do you have for your card?” His mother asked, grabbing it from him and placing it in Anya’s hand.
“I really shouldn’t,” Anya protested, refusing to hold on to it.
“Don’t worry. He does not have use for it,” Wendy stuffed it in her hand. When Daniel saw that Anya was still uncomfortable about taking his card, he got up as he was done eating and lowered his head to her ear.
“I thought you said you could make me go bankrupt. It seems I have nothing to fear,” he said, and she grabbed onto the card and gave him a death stare. It amused Daniel so much as her mouth was filled with food, so she looked like a squirrel when she gave him that look. She looked too cute; he resisted the urge to kiss her as he turned and left the dining room.
Anya couldn’t help but smile at Wendy. “In that case, I would love to,” she replied, her voice filled with sincerity. “Thank you for inviting me.
Wendy beamed at her. “Good,” she said decisively. “Then it’s settled. Anya, you’ll come to the spa with me today.”
Wendy wasn’t sure what her son had said, but she saw Anya take the card in spite and was quite pleased with the result.
Wendy smiled warmly at her. “It’s settled then,” Wendy declared. Then she spotted Daniel leaving the room and snapped her fingers at him
“Hey, boy. You better be on time to pick up when we are ready. I don’t care how busy you are, she ordered.
Daniel bowed in their direction dramatically, his expression fond as he looked at his wife. “Of course, Madam,” he said. “I’ll be there.”
After bidding her family farewell, Anya and Wendy made their way to the spa, their
conversation light and cheerful as they enjoyed each other’s company.
And as they left the breakfast table, Anya couldn’t help but feel grateful for the family she had found in the Shaws. They had welcomed her with open arms, supporting her through the darkest of times, and for that, she would be forever grateful.
As Anya stepped into the serene ambiance of the spa, a wave of tranquility washed over her. The soft music, the soothing scent of lavender–it all enveloped her in a cocoon of relaxation. She exchanged a smile with Wendy, her mother–in–law, before they were escorted to the changing rooms to prepare for their treatments.
Alone in the back room, Anya slipped out of her clothes and into a plush robe, relishing the sensation of the soft fabric against her skin. As she tied the sash around her waist, she couldn’t help but overhear snippets of conversation from the adjacent room.
…can you believe it? Daniel Shaw and Selene…”
Anya froze, her heart skipping a beat at the mention of Daniel’s name. Curiosity piqued; she quieted down and slowed her actions, straining to catch every word.
…heard they’ve been seeing each other recently.”
“Isn’t Daniel divorced now? What is weird about that?”
“Really? I am at Shaw Group every day with my father for our project, and I have never heard of it. How did you hear?”
“How else? Selene,”
“Let me guess, did she buy a magazine to publicize it? Did she host a party just to tell people?”
“It was as though she was afraid someone would not find out he was divorced. She was one step away from beating a drum through the city center.”
A round of giggles went around after this.
“So, she is really going to marry him?”
“Probably, he is a free man, right?”
“I will believe it when they start dating.”
“I have already seen photos of both of them. Reports say that they are looking for a ring.”
“Is it the first time you have seen a picture in the press about them? What is a picture and speculations? It would be faster for the former Wendy to be in the stall behind us than for her to become something with Mr. Shaw.”
Anya’s breath caught in her throat at the outrageous gossip. It was so absurd, so unfounded, that she almost laughed. She had been married to Daniel for years, had just remarried him for a month over a few days now, and she knew he was not the type to engage in such deceitful behavior. He was straightforward to a fault. If he wanted Selene, there
