Roman’s POV
“Perfect. I knew you wouldn’t disappoint me, doll.” I smirked, feeling excitement sizzling inside me before a great wave of relief cascaded through me.
At last, it was settled.
I just had to brief her on how, and how not to act with Nana to arouse her suspicions.
Sofie flushed, steering her gaze away from me, and fiddling with her fingers.
For some unknown reason, seeing her act all adorable and nervous always made me feel all funny and soft inside, which was strange.
But, it wasn’t as if I liked her or anything though.
Her tucking her auburn hair behind her ear did absolutely nothing to me. Her big, doe, brown eyes didn’t make me feel like protecting her and her perfect oval face coupled with her plump, rosy lips didn’t make me feel like having her to just myself.
Exactly, they didn’t. I was only confusing lust with love.
Right. That was it.
But then again, why did I still feel that warmness in my chest whenever her coffee eyes stared up at me?
My feelings toward her should have dissipated after we had sex, so what was this weird feeling that made me feel like a schoolboy admiring their crush from afar?
Before my thoughts could stray further, my phone vibrated in my pocket and I fished it out.
It was an incoming call from Nana.
I eyed Sofie’s hunched-over form, “One minute. I have to take this call, it’s urgent.” I said before answering the phone and turning away to stare through the glass walls at the cars driving by and the walking pedestrians.
“Grandma.” I greeted.
“Romano, how are you?” Her tender voice came from the other line.
“I’m good, thank you. How are you?”
“Well, I can’t say I’m doing good. You know, when you get to my age, your bones become weak and you feel sore almost everyday like you are one step away from meeting the creator.” She said, to which I sighed.
“Nana, what did I say about talking like that?”
“I know. I know. I’m sorry, darling. I was just being honest. I’m sorry, I won’t say stuff like that again, promise.”
I nodded even though she couldn’t see me, “Good.”
“So, have you spoken to your fiancée about it yet? What did she say? Will she be down to meet me by next week?” Nana asked excitedly, with an energetic crescendo.
I turned to stare at Sofie who had now gotten out of bed and had the blanket wrapped around her. When she saw that I was staring at her, she froze like a deer in the headlights.
“I-I’m going to take a shower.” She stuttered, scrambling around to pick up her clothes from the floor.
“Romano, are you there?” Grandma yelled, and I winced.
“Yeah, sure. I’m sorry. I will bring her to you by next week.” I said, to which Nana gasped, excited.
Sofie has frozen again on the floor with her clothes in her hold.
“Great, that’s perfect. I will have the chef prepare your favorite. I can’t believe I almost forgot! What is her favorite food? I will have them make it too. I want to make my future granddaughter-in-law as comfortable as I can.” Nana rambled out, and I couldn’t help but feel guilt pluck at my heart.
I didn’t want to imagine how hurt she would feel when she found out about my lie.
I placed a hand over the speaker, “What is your favorite food?”
Sofie dragged herself up from the floor, “Chicken Lasagna.”
I turned away from her again and repeated her words to Nana.
“Okay, then. Take care of yourself, caro mio. I’m hanging up.”
“Sure. You too, ma,” I said, and just as I was about to end the call, I heard a startled yelp behind me, and I looked back just in time to save Sofie from squashing her jaw on the floor.
Wrapping an arm around her waist, I quickly hung up and slipped my phone back into my pocket.
“Thanks for saving me again.” Sofie squeaked, her grip on my biceps tightening as pink dusted her cheeks.
“You sure are quite clumsy, you do know that right?”
“Yeah, I do. I’ve been told by a lot of people.” She said and I shook my head before setting her upright.
My body was starting to react to her luscious breasts pressed against me, and I couldn’t risk it.
The thought of spending the morning thrusting deeply into Sofie was tempting, but I had a company to run.
“Go and take your shower. We are heading out soon.” I said.
She frowned, “We?”
“Yes, we. We have to sign a contract for our little arrangement to begin, don’t we?”
“Oh.” She flushed and nodded before shuffling into the bathroom.
I just shook my head at her adorable antics before I sat down.
Wait, adorable?
Did I just call her adorable? What was wrong with me?
Why was I behaving like I hadn’t seen a woman in years?
Get a grip, Roman. You have to get a grip before you ruin this. I inwardly chided myself.
I didn’t do affection, love or anything like that. I only did sex and I knew as hell that I wasn’t interested in Sofie like that.NôvelDrama.Org (C) content.
I would never be and I would do everything it took to stick to my decision.
I just had to put my dick aside to think properly.
Moments later after Sofie was now fully dressed and as we strolled to the parking lot, I couldn’t help but steal a glance at her petite stature which I once again found cute.
I resisted the urge to wrap an arm around her waist to show my possessive nature by forcefully tearing my gaze away from her.
Roman, keep your damn dick away. I inwardly cursed myself as we got to my car where my assistant was waiting.
“Good morning, sir.” He bowed stiffly before gazing inquisitively at Sofie.
“Morning, Nathan. We are stopping by a lot of places before we head to work today.” I said, to which he nodded.
Placing a hand on Sofie’s waist, I said, “This is my fiancée, Sofie and baby, this is my assistant, Nathan.” I smiled down at Sofie who mirrored my expression.
As expected, Nathan looked shocked but he still bowed to Sofie, “Nice to meet you, madam.”
“Same here but you don’t have to bow to me or call me your madam.” Sofie said, gesturing to him to stand upright.
Nathan seemed perplexed.
Before Sofie could utter another word, I motioned her into the car before climbing in behind her.
With Nathan’s attention on the wheels and the road, I leaned closer to Sofie, “Don’t say stuff like that, okay? Do you want to blow our cover?” I said through my teeth.
“Noted. I’m sorry.” Sofie whispered back.
I just shook my head as I reclined against the car seat and stared outside the window.
I hoped everything went well.
