Chapter 743 Good At Torturing Others
By the time Cayden and Avery left the amusement park, it was already nearing ten in the late evening.
He took Avery out for a romantic candlelit dinner again, and by the time they returned home, it was almost in the middle of the night.
The three babies were now peacefully asleep.
Zachary and Rory had already retired to their separate rooms for the night. Meanwhile, the toddler Cal peacefully slumbered in the company of Avery and Cayden, all sharing the same room.
Avery actually felt a bit guilty about leaving their child behind to enjoy a romantic getaway with her husband.
She gently kissed each of them on the forehead, then headed to the bathroom to freshen up while Cayden retreated to the study.
Having finished washing up, she noticed that the light in the study was still on.
As she passed by the door, she distinctly heard the sound of keys being struck on a keyboard.
Avery frowned, knowing that Cayden was working overtime again.
She understood the hardships of being the CEO of such a large corporation. During the two years when she served as the acting CEO, the pressure was immense. She was up late almost every night, working overtime day after day. Now, it was her husband who had taken over this demanding role.
Avery, wrapped in a bath towel, wandered around the bedroom. The light still shining in the study made her feel as lonely as an abandoned puppy.
After drying her hair, she went to the kitchen to heat up a cup of milk, ready to take it to Cayden.
That man was quite the workaholic. Once he dove into his tasks, time seemed to slip away from him entirely.
If she did not tell him to go to bed, he might just pull an all-nighter.
Avery carried a glass of milk into the study.
As expected, Cayden was indeed engrossed in his work. A cup of cold coffee sitting untouched in front of his laptop.
Upon noticing Avery, the man gave her a gentle smile, his tone affectionate. “Why haven't you gone to bed?”
Avery handed him the milk, replying, “How could I possibly sleep when you haven't even taken a rest?”
Cayden shook his head, exhaustion evident as he rubbed his temples. “Just leave the milk there for now, I'm not really in the mood to drink it at the moment.”
Continuing to immerse himself in his work, his concentration was so intense that it seemed as though his tasks were his devoted partner.
Avery was somewhat irritated, slamming the milk cup down on the table.
She assertively shut his laptop and launched into a stream of conversation. “You really should have the milk while it's still warm. Cold milk isn't great for your stomach, remember your condition? And you left your work just to take me on a Ferris wheel spin. Couldn't we go when you're not busy? Mr. Moore, you're quite the determined one. Do your employees know how stubborn you can be?”
Cayden remained silent, maintaining a playful grin as he looked at her. Bathed in the soft glow of the light, he admired Avery's delicate features, still fresh from her bath.
After her bath, a delicate fragrance of shower gel clung to Avery. Her fair skin had adopted a porcelain- like hue, touched with a gentle rosy tint. She resembled a freshly crafted piece of fine porcelain— innocent, luminous, and inspiring the urge to cradle her tenderly, treasuring her forever.
Observing his continued silence and intent gaze, Avery suddenly felt as if her vented anger had encountered an insubstantial barrier, akin to throwing a punch at a cloud that remained unaffected.
She impatiently stomped her foot. “Cayden, I get that you're dedicated to your work, but can't you prioritize your own well-being too? Are you made of iron or what? You burn the midnight oil all the time, and on top of that, you have a fondness for coffee, which isn't kind to your stomach. If this continues, I'm seriously going to lose my cool.”
Cayden embraced the flustered Avery, allowing her to sit on his lap. He patted her small face, his voice laced with a hint of fatigue. “Coffee can be refreshing and can also improve work efficiency. I'm used to drinking it, and it's a habit that's not easy to quit for now. Sweetheart, you go to sleep first. I'll rest once I've finished dealing with these documents.”
Avery looked at the pile of documents he was pointing at and immediately began to playfully rub against him. “No way. If you don't sleep, I won't sleep either. Tonight, I'll keep you company while you work. Since you've abandoned your work to take me out, I, as your wife, must share your workload. Come on, let's split these documents in half. I'll handle some for you so that you can rest earlier.”
She split the thick stack of documents in two, pushing one pile toward Cayden and cradling the other in her arms, resolved to assist Cayden with his tasks.
Cayden found himself both amused and exasperated by Avery's antics, and her constant rubbing against him almost set him on fire.
He pulled her into a close embrace, his voice slightly rough. “Don't worry about the documents. I don't want you overworking yourself. As for me, I find enjoyment in my work, so it's not a big deal. Just go relax in the bedroom. You know Cal often wakes up during the night. He'll start crying if he can't find his mom.”
Avery clung tightly to his neck, wriggling in his arms like a playful monkey. “I don't care, if you're not going to sleep, then neither am I.”
With that, she grabbed his hand as he was about to reach for the computer. She then bit down on his fingers.
Cayden grunted softly, his body burning as she rubbed against him. The finger she bit felt as if it had been struck by a surge of electricity, tingling and numb, the sensation traveling from the fingertip all the
way to the depths of his heart.
He was somewhat exasperated and nipped at her ear. “Ery, stop messing around!”
Avery cooed. “I don't care, I want to work with you!”
Cayden's gaze caught Avery's bath towel slowly slipping, exposing her soft, rounded shoulders in their entirety. The sight of her graceful form was completely unveiled before him, a beautiful scene that he could not help but take in.
A storm seemed to gather in his narrowed eyes, his voice growing even huskier. “Stop moving, or you'll regret it.”
Avery was only thinking about how to coax him into resting, continuing to nuzzle against him, even resorting to using her charms. Content held by NôvelDrama.Org.
Inhaling the pleasant mint scent from the man, she playfully swayed his arm, speaking in an unusual coquettish tone. “Hubby, it's too late today. Shall we go to bed? Let's get up early and work tomorrow. Otherwise, I'll have to stay up late with you.”
Cayden's eyes were already blazing with desire. He gripped her delicate chin, gritting his teeth as he said, “Trying to seduce me, huh? Honey, don't blame me if you can't handle what's coming next!”
Avery thought about his usual behavior in bed, a shiver running through her scalp. Yet, her tender hands mischievously slipped into the depths of his shirt, teasing. “That depends on whether you're up to the task.”
Before she could finish his sentence, Cayden abruptly swept Avery off her feet.
She caught the intensity in his gaze, his eyes both hazy and ablaze with an all-encompassing passion, and his words were laced with an underlying fire. “Whether I'm up to the challenge, you'll discover soon enough. Challenging a man's pride is like playing with fire!”
The consequence of provoking Cayden was evident the following day, as Avery struggled to even get out of bed. Walking was a challenge, and her legs were unable to come together. Each step she took seemed to tremble, and she felt so weak that she almost needed the support of a housekeeper to navigate.
Facing the inquisitive gazes of the several housekeepers at home, Avery wore a mournful expression on her face. That man is great at torturing others. I'll definitely watch my words around him in the future.
