Chapter 1419
Was it Everett's guiding hand that made everything run so smoothly at Trust-E? No one could say for sure, but their projects were sailing through without much of a hitch. Even the minor hiccups were quickly resolved. Dorothy had been worried about not spending enough time with Langston, but now she was managing to get home early almost every day.
"Mommy, look! I made a crown for my brother!"
The moment Abigail was picked up from school and stepped through the door, she was all excited, showing off her creation.
Langston, who had been lounging on the couch with his laptop, looked as if he'd rather be anywhere else.
"I'm a boy, I don't need a crown."
"But I made it super pretty! Look, brother!"
Abigail, undeterred, placed the paper crown she was holding into his hands, her face full of hope.
"...Who writes 'get well soon, legs' on a crown?" Langston couldn't help but comment, but he still placed the crown on his head to humor her.
Dorothy, coming out of the kitchen with some freshly washed fruit, caught the sight of her son's half-amused, half-exasperated expression, so reminiscent of his father's.
The only one who could handle Langston was Abigail.
And the only one who could handle Abigail was her brother.
"Mommy, when is daddy coming home? I made one for him too!" Abigail, seeing her mom, ran over to her.
"I'm not sure, honey. He's still busy at work, but he might be back soon."
Abigail pouted, "Daddy hasn't played with me at all recently!"
Dorothy smiled softly, taking her daughter's hand, "Because daddy isn't just your dad, he's also the boss to a lot of people. They all rely on him to make money. Just wait a bit longer, and when he's less busy, he'll play with you." She tried to explain things in a way Abigail could understand, mainly to avoid her daughter pestering her father in the evenings, potentially disrupting his work. This content © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
Everett had already given so much to their family, Dorothy didn't want to always be on the receiving end. Knowing he was busy, she tried get home earlier to take care of Langston and brought work home whenever possible.
As they were talking, the sound of a car pulling up outside could be heard.
Abigail and Langston immediately turned their attention towards the door-
And soon enough, Everett appeared in the foyer, holding a small cakez and some toys, still dressed in his impeccably tailored dark suit, the very image of the distinguished Mr. Lopez.
But as soon as he stepped through the door, he transformed into the loving father and attentive husband.
This shift was both jarring and natural.
"Daddy!"
Abigail ran over to him, arms wide open for a hug.
Everett, with one arm, scooped her up and walked over to Dorothy, "Did you feel okay today?"
"Fine, I haven't had any morning sickness at all."
"Really?"
"Why would I lie about that?" She chuckled, watching Everett turn to help Abigail with the LEGOS, her smile growing wider.
"I sent you the project details for the collaboration between Trust-E and the Lopez Corporation. Did Kevin send them over?" He asked, not taking his eyes off Dorothy, even as he helped Abigail piece together her building blocks. Ever since Dorothy got pregnant, Everett had carpeted the entire house, always cautious of any potential accidents.
"I got them," Dorothy replied, joining them with the fruit, "But why is the signing scheduled for next month? Are you busy at the end of this month?"
Too busy to even sign a contract?
He looked up, a slight smile on his lips, "Yeah, I have plans."
