Chapter 8
Chapter 8
Who knew?
Aurelia mumbled to herself
Surely Kelly wouldn’t be foolish enough to throw the boss under the bus?
“I always thought getting into Astral Enterprises was the luckiest thing ever happened to me. I love this
job. Although I don’t have the pedigree of other designers – either graduates from prestigious foreign
schools or from renowned international jewelry companies I believe, with my talent and hard work, I
can still make my mark in the Design Department. Is it fair for you to strip me of all my efforts and
hopes just because of a minor disagreement?”
As she spoke, her voice broke with grief and indignation. She crouched down, buried her face in her
knees, and started to sob.
Leopold was speechless.
Suddenly, he was the one with the blame, making him frustrated and irritable.
“Stop crying.”
Aurelia ignored him, her sobs echoing in the room, making him restless. He jumped up from his
executive chair, strode over to her, and lifted her to her feet.
“Stop crying, or I’ll really fire you.”
Aurelia was startled, her body shivering as she bit her lip.
Her crying ceased abruptly, but her tears flowed like a released flood, her silent sobs making her
shoulders shake.
Leopold felt a sharp pang in his heart, as if it had been jolted.
“I always keep my personal and professional life separate. Your assumptions are baseless.”
Aurelia sniffled, “It was Kelly who told me. She said it was your directive. You are the boss, wouldn’t
she be framing you for no reason?”
Leopold was stunned. He immediately returned to his desk, pressed the phone, and asked Kelly to
come to the office.
This wasn’t a small issue, he had to get to the bottom of it.
“Hide yourself.”
Aurelia understood immediately, and hid herself, her mind in turmoil.
Was the boss going to confront Kelly?
Could there be more to this?
Soon, Kelly walked in.
Leopold instantly regained his stern expression, as if he had put on a mask of ice.
“What’s the deal with Aurelia’s assessment?”
Kelly wiped the sweat from her forehead. She had always seen Aurelia as soft and weak, she didn’t
expect her to be bold enough to complain directly to the CEO!

“A few days ago, Ms. Elowen called me, saying Aurelia had upset you and asked me to find a way to
fire her. As an employee, if she can’t satisfy the boss, her performance is bound to be unsatisfactory.
That’s why I gave her an ‘E‘.”
A spark of anger flashed in Leopold’s eyes.
So, it was Elowen stirring up trouble!
“You believe anything she says? As a director, don’t you have the most basic judgment?”
Kelly turned pale, “Ms. Elowen is your fiancée, doesn’t her opinion represent yours?”
“No one can represent me, especially an outsider.”
Leopold’s voice was icy cold, carrying an absolute authority that was unchallengeable.
Kelly shivered, “I was wrong. I shouldn’t have made such a basic mistake. Please, for the sake of my
years of service to the company, give me a chance to make amends. I will review my actions and
guarantee that I will never make such a mistake again.”
Leopold was silent for a moment, then said coldly, “Go back and wait for the Management
Department’s decision. Aurelia’s performance will be
re–evaluated by the Personnel Department.”
Aurelia’s heart was pounding like a drum.
So, it was Elowen who had stabbed her in the back.
Could she know that she hadn’t terminated the pregnancy and was still marrying the boss? Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
Thinking of this, she quickly dismissed the idea.
It Elowen knew, she would have come and tom her apart, rather than just stirring up trouble behind her
back.
After Kelly left, she came out sheepishly and quickly apologized.
“Mr. Leopold, I’m sorry. I misunderstood you. I mean, why would a big shot like you, who dazzles
everyone, be bothered by a small fry like me?”
Leopold’s face was ley. He picked up his coffee and took a sip, ignoring her completely as if she were a
puff of air.
Aurelia’s heart sank.
This is bad. The boss is angry, and the consequences are going to be severe.
“Mr. Leopold, I was wrong. I used a villain’s heart to measure a gentleman’s mind. You are large–
minded, can tolerate small faults. Can you forgive my rashness?”
She took a step forward and bowed deeply.
Unexpectedly, because she was too close, her head banged into the coffee cup in Leopold’s hand,
causing her to whimper in pain, her eyes filling
with tears.
Coffee splashed out, spilling on the floor and on Leopold’s white shirt.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Leopold, I’m sorry…”
She was so embarrassed that she wanted to kill herself. She didn’t care about the pain and hurriedly
took out a tissue to wipe him.
Leopold was speechless. If it weren’t for the fact that this woman was carrying his children, he would
have kicked her out of the window.
Her hands were rubbing all over him, making him inexplicably hot.
“That’s enough.”
He grabbed her hand.
Aurelia was standing on the coffee stain, her feet slipped when he tugged at her hand, and she lost her
balance, falling straight into him, like a frog, falling on top of him.
Her lips landed directly on his.
