Chapter 240
Chapter 240
Ronan's call was to the manager of RC. The factory had been up and running for a while now. He
originally wanted to surprise Cordelia, but alas, she had gone abroad, none the wiser.
She had turned her attention elsewhere, opening up First Enterprises, displaying an astonishing level
of adaptability.
"Ronan, this could easily alienate Cordelia, you know?" Emerson raised his concern after overhearing
Ronan's phone conversation.
"She brought it upon herself." Ronan retorted, his gaze drifting towards the window. "No one forced her
to give gifts to others."
"But she...after all, she's pregnant with twins. If something were to happen..." Emerson was evidently
worried. "If she's being ostracized, she definitely won't have a good time at the Colby's."
"If she's not comfortable there, then she should move out."
Emerson thought to himself that making Cordelia move out would be Ronan's real intention.
Within a few days, RC adjusted their sales strategy, focusing on the brand's story. On every clothing
label, the origin of the brand was written. The first letter of the husband's name is R, and the first letter
of the wife's name is C. The story came from a promise made by the husband upon hearing his wife
wished to no longer buy clothes from outside. He promised they would start a factory together, focusing
on men's fashion and accessories, catering to wives who loved their husbands.
This story played across advertisements for almost half a month. It was heart-tugging, and RC's sales
skyrocketed.
But Cordelia didn’t buy any clothes, so she didn’t know about it. However, Thomas loved the clothes.
His wife, Ava, decided to buy him another piece. That's how she came across the brand's story. She
even found the story quite romantic, asking the shop assistant, "What's the name of your CEO?"
"Ronan," the assistant replied.
Ava remained silent for a long time. Ronan's ex-wife was Cordelia. The first letter of Cordelia's name
was C, wasn’t it?
This fact was stuck in Ava's mind. Even though it was a thing of the past, Ava found herself disliking
Cordelia. After all, everyone on the streets now knew about her past relationship with Ronan. How was
Jamie supposed to cope?
Even though Ava didn't tell Jamie about it, Jamie still found out. RC's advertisements had been
everywhere recently. One day, while he was working on his computer, an RC promo popped up in the
bottom right corner of his screen.
Jamie knew.
Cordelia, busy with work every day, also knew. She was so angry that she felt a stomachache. She
didn't understand why Ronan was doing this to her.
Jamie silently took off the shirt Cordelia had given him. The atmosphere in Jamie's house suddenly
turned icy. Despite this, Jamie still treated Cordelia kindly on the surface.
Sometimes when he wanted to serve Cordelia food, Ava would say, "Eat your food, Jamie. Do you
even know what Cordelia likes?"
Cordelia could sense Ava's change. Every time this happened, she would feel the desolation of being
at someone else's mercy. She missed her mother more and more, and her hatred for Ronan grew.
New Year's Day was soon approaching.
On this day, Jamie specifically asked Cordelia to come downstairs. He had set off many fireworks in the
yard.
Cordelia, covering her ears, couldn't help but remember the fireworks she and Jamie had watched
together in Roseville last year.
"Cordelia, do you want to watch fireworks with me every year?" Jamie asked Cordelia.
Cordelia covered her ears, pretending not to hear anything, simply grinning at Jamie. Seeing Cordelia's
reaction, Jamie felt a little awkward. It seemed that Cordelia was not willing. But he thought there was
plenty of time.
She and Ronan's brand, that was a thing of the past, right?
Seeing the two of them so close made Thomas feel like his heart was being clawed at. He had never
wanted Cordelia to live in their house. He was polite to Cordelia on the surface, but he didn't like her
deep down. He wasn't sure if the children were Jamie's, and Jamie had such a promising future. How
could he be with a divorced woman?
Cordelia was better left untouched. He thought that Ronan was doing this to force the Colby family to
drive Cordelia away.
He was always cunning and proud, and even at such times, he aimed to make the Colby family beg
him, which was why he used that advertisement.
With trembling hands, Thomas called Ronan.
"Mr. Evans, I have a favor to ask you. Cordelia doesn't want to stay at our house anymore. I was
wondering..."
"Hmm, why doesn't she want to stay?" Ronan replied in a calm and collected manner.
"I'm not sure, maybe she doesn't feel comfortable living here."
"In that case, shall I take her away?" Ronan suggested.
"Uh, sure, sure," Thomas responded enthusiastically.
"When?" Ronan asked.
"In the afternoon. Preferably before my son comes home," Thomas replied.
"Alright."
In the afternoon, Cordelia finished her day's work in her bedroom and was about to go for a stroll in the
park when she saw Ronan entering the Colby's house.
The two encountered each other in the foyer. She was taken aback, surprised, and even a little
panicked, unsure why he had suddenly come to the Colby's.
Ronan also looked at Cordelia. Her belly had gotten bigger, and there was a hint of fatigue on her face, Ccontent © exclusive by Nô/vel(D)ra/ma.Org.
making her look more languidly sexy.
The moment Cordelia saw Ronan, she found it hard to breathe, as if instinctively, her whole body
pressed against the wall. Ronan ignored her and walked straight into the living room.
Thomas had already come out of his room. "Mr. Evans, what a rare visitor, your presence truly graces
our humble home." He greeted Ronan. He also sneaked a glance at Cordelia.
"Cordelia, don't leave just yet," Thomas beckoned her back with a wave of his hand.
Then, he ingratiatingly explained to Ronan, "She likes to take a walk in the park after a hard day's
work."
"Is that so?" Ronan was lounging on the couch.
From Cordelia's vantage point, she could only see his strikingly handsome silhouette. Even his
silhouette seemed nonchalant and free-spirited, emanating an enduring aura that was impossible to
ignore. Yet it was this man who had cunningly persuaded Cordelia to move out from the very
beginning, starting with the sweet gesture of gifting her snacks to revealing the brand story of his
company, RC. Now, he was beginning to tighten the net.
It seemed like the better Cordelia's life was, the more he suffered.
