Chapter 252
Chapter 252
Brooklyn hailed a cab to Cordelia's neighborhood, noticing Jamie's car parked downstairs.
"Did Cordelia invite you over?" Brooklyn asked Jamie.
"No, she mentioned she had a prenatal check-up today, and I thought I'd come early," Jamie replied.
Brooklyn, deep in thought, headed up to Cordelia's apartment.
The paternity of the child was still unknown to Brooklyn, as Cordelia had chosen to keep it a secret.
She knew that if Brooklyn found out, it would only be a matter of time before Ronan did. But aside from
Ronan, no one knew about the events that transpired the night before the exam. Thus, Brooklyn and
Janice, like everyone else, believed that the child was Ronan's.
"Cordelia, Jamie's downstairs waiting to accompany you to your prenatal check-up," Brooklyn told
Cordelia once upstairs.
"He's here?" Cordelia was in the middle of putting on her coat.
Just earlier, Tristi had messaged her, saying that she had arrived, but Jamie's earnest offer was difficult
to reject. Did she have to go with Jamie?

"Cordelia, you mentioned yesterday about your prenatal check-up. I thought I could drive you there,
and we could discuss the project on the way. Hop in."
Cordelia decided to call Tristi and let her know she had other plans and that Tristi could have the day to
herself.
"No problem, Mrs. Evans. I'll leave you to it then," Tristi replied over the phone.
"Thanks, Tristi," Cordelia responded before ending the call and getting into Jamie's car.
Once on the road, Tristi sent Ronan a message. [Mr. Evans, Mrs. Evans left with a friend of hers. She
told me to enjoy the day.]
Ronan replied with a simple. [Understood.]
He knew exactly who Cordelia's friend was—Jamie.
…
In Jamie's car.
Cordelia filled him in on the project's progress, mentioning the problems she encountered while
preparing the accounts. Jamie provided solutions for each one of them. "Cordelia, you're quite far along
in your pregnancy. Take it easy," Jamie expressed his concern.
The last time Marian posted that comment in the group, Jamie immediately had her delete it and even
gave her a stern talking to. But trying to stop rumors was like trying to stop the wind. Cordelia needed a
solid project to anchor herself, especially as her pregnancy progressed and her presence in the
industry declined.
At the maternity clinic.
Jamie waited in the car as Brooklyn and Cordelia entered the clinic.
Cordelia had an ultrasound scheduled for her check-up that day.
"How did it go? Is the baby healthy?" Cordelia asked Victoria.
"Cordelia, I've got a secret for you," Victoria said, unable to hide her excitement.
"What is it?"
"Doctors aren't supposed to disclose this, but I have to tell you—you're having twins, a boy, and a girl,"
Victoria held up two fingers. "Isn't that exciting? You have to throw a party now."
Cordelia was taken aback. Twins? That was quite a surprise. "Sure, I'll throw a party during the
holidays," Cordelia agreed.
On the drive back, Brooklyn excitedly discussed the twins with Cordelia. "Cordelia, did you save the
Earth in your past life? You're having twins!" Brooklyn casually remarked.
Cordelia didn't seem too concerned. Her main worry was this, how was she going to raise two children,
especially if she planned on studying abroad?
Jamie, who was seated up front, overheard their conversation. He thought to himself, “That man really
is something else.” A hint of jealousy crept into his heart.
After dropping off Cordelia, Jamie drove Brooklyn to her workplace. He was somewhat distracted
throughout the journey, almost rear-ending another vehicle.
