The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 260

Chapter 260

Around half-past five in the afternoon, Ronan rapped on Cordelia's bedroom door. "Dinner time," he

said.

Cordelia had been engrossed in writing in her diary on her desk. After last night with Ronan, she felt a

mix of regret and guilt. The regret stemmed from the fact that she had let things come to this point

despite having had the chance to avoid it all by staying abroad. The guilt was because she couldn't

help thinking about her late mother. After all, Ronan was the man responsible for her death.

Cordelia was stuck in this emotional turmoil, biting her lip in silence. Ronan's sudden knock on the door

had made her shiver.

"What are you afraid of?" Ronan asked her.

"Nothing. It's just that it was so quiet, and you startled me when you spoke," she said, getting up and

heading to the dining table. She had deliberately put on a fluffy pajama set, hiding the pendant Jamie Nôvel/Dr(a)ma.Org - Content owner.

had given her beneath the collar.

Ronan's culinary skills were average, but he had managed to cook a fish and some veggies.

They ate in silence. Cordelia thought to herself that despite Ronan believing the baby wasn't his, he still

took care of her. She owed him some gratitude, at least.

Moreover, she had guessed that Manda's imprisonment might have had something to do with her

pushing Cordelia down the stairs. Although she didn't agree with Ronan's methods, he had done it for

her, hadn't he?

And as Marian had pointed out, although he hadn't said a word about it, he had indeed helped her win

the contract from PrimeBuild Contractors, helping her establish her reputation in the company.

She had harbored resentment against him all this while, but he had never defended himself. He had

always been responsible, hadn't he?

Cordelia felt that her hatred for him was slowly fading with time. There had been affection between

them before.

She picked up a piece of fish and put it in his bowl. Then, she continued to eat as if nothing had

happened.

"For me?" he asked Cordelia.

"Mmm."

"What does it mean?"

"Whatever you want it to mean. Happy New Year." Cordelia finally said, a belated New Year wish she

had owed him.

"Is it about last night?" he asked her again.

"Do guys always have to link everything to sex? No!" Cordelia said, a little angry. Then, she went back

to eating her dinner, not saying another word to him.

Although she didn't look at Ronan, she could tell that he was in a good mood that day. After dinner, it

was Ronan who washed the dishes.

Cordelia sat on the couch for a while before deciding to take a bath. Since she had been heavily

pregnant, she had stopped taking showers under the shower head, afraid of slipping. She would fill the

bathtub with water and take a bath instead, a safer option. The warm water soaked Cordelia's skin, her

face and body covered in a layer of steam.

She had been living in a rented apartment without a bathtub before, and when she lived at Jamie's

house, she felt a bit awkward using the bathtub in the private bathroom of her room, feeling as if

someone would walk in at any moment. In this house, Cordelia felt an unprecedented sense of security,

and combined with the comfort of soaking in the tub, she almost fell asleep.

She was wondering why her postgraduate offer hadn't come yet. What would she do once the baby

was born? If she had to go abroad alone with two children, it would obviously be very inconvenient.

She was in two minds about whether to tell Ronan that the babies were his.

Cordelia had soaked in the tub for over an hour. She first lifted one leg out of the tub, and as she tried

to lift the other, she slipped and fell on the floor. Fortunately, she had managed to grab the edge of the

tub with both hands. If she had let go even a bit, she would have fallen.

Cordelia was at the edge, physically strained. "Ronan, Ronan, help me... help me," she called out from

the bathroom. But with the house's excellent soundproofing, could he hear her?

"Ronan..."

"Ronan... Honey..." In desperation, Cordelia called out 'honey,' hoping that a soft word might prompt

him to help her.
