The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 276

Chapter 276

Ava made her way to Jamie's room. Recently, Jamie had returned home and isolated himself in his

room, his mood notably somber.

"What's been going on, son?" Ava asked Jamie.

"Oh, nothing, just work stuff." Jamie replied nonchalantly.

Lately, Jamie had been having a rough go of things. His proposal to Cordelia had been rejected and his

work life was no better. His business partner, Kent, had impulsively become the majority shareholder of

First Enterprises. However, Kent lacked the skills to manage the company and was easily

outmaneuvered by their competitor, Ronan. Naturally, Jamie was in a bad mood. His values didn't align

with Kent's, and he was considering leaving First Enterprises.

"You're also upset about Cordelia, aren't you?" Ava asked.

Jamie paused, "Yes."

His first proposal had failed, and he was unsure of how to approach the topic again. He was stuck in an

awkward stalemate.

"Son, let me ask you, is Cordelia's child yours?" Ava asked.

Jamie knew that if he said the child was not his, his mother would certainly prevent Cordelia from

entering their home in the future. So, Jamie said, "Yes!"

Ava nodded, deep in thought. "Are you certain? After all, the person who would know best is Cordelia."

Ava said seriously. She had to find out who the father of the child was.

Jamie was reminded of the day when he went to Cordelia's house and saw the silhouette leaving her

bed. Despite his heartache, he said, "I'm certain. The child was conceived when we were both in

California. Although she's now living at Ronan's house, she has not had sex with him. Ronan is

involved in the death of Cordelia's mother. She would rather hate him."

"Really?" Ava asked. Adrian had mentioned that Cordelia was not happy living at Garden Estates.

"Really. I proposed to Cordelia, and she rejected me." Jamie said.

"So, you're upset because of that?" Ava asked again, "But if she loves you, why did she reject your

proposal?"

Jamie thought for a moment, "I wouldn't say she rejected me. Her aunt came home right after I

proposed."

"So, should I propose on your behalf?" Ava suggested. Ava felt much better. She believed that

following the incident with Cordelia's mother, Cordelia would not go back to Ronan.

Ava asked Jamie for Cordelia's address at Garden Estates, planning to visit the next day. Jamie

mentioned that most businesses reopen on the 8th, so Ronan would likely be at work.

The next morning, Ava stood at Cordelia's front door. However, when she knocked, it was Ronan who

answered.

"You are?" Ronan didn't recognize Ava. When he picked up Cordelia last time, Ava was not there.

"Mr. Evans? Are you home? I'm Jamie's mother." Ava saw Ronan as her son's biggest enemy, her tone

naturally hostile.

"Um. Please come in." Ronan invited Ava inside.

Cordelia was sitting on the couch reading a book about child-rearing. Hearing someone arrive, she

turned around.

"Ava, what brings you here?" Cordelia saw Ava and quickly put her book face down on the table,

standing up to greet her.

"You're showing quite a bit!" Ava walked over to Cordelia, "My dear grandchild."

Ava gently touched Cordelia's belly. Cordelia looked a bit embarrassed.

"I'll go to my room. You two chat." Ronan saw Ava and, although he wasn't pleased, he knew when to

leave women to their conversation.

"Oh, Mr. Evans, no need, some things need to be said in your presence." Ava's attitude towards Ronan

was not as fawning and sniveling as Thomas's. After all, she was unaware of the things her husband

had done in the past.

Ronan sat on a single chair nearby.

Janice came out to pour water for Ava. "No need! I won't take a dime from the Evans family!" Ava

raised her hand and said.

Janice glanced at Ronan, who motioned for her to leave.

"Ava, thank you for the pendant you got for me last time. It's beautiful, I really like it." Cordelia kicked off

the polite conversation.

"Pendant?" Ava frowned slightly. She had no memory of such a pendant.

"Yes, the one that protects children." Cordelia said.

"Oh, you mean that. I forgot, I did ask for one. To bless my grandchild's safety." Ava said vaguely.

Seeing her confused expression, Ronan knew that the pendant was not from Ava. It was just an

excuse for Jamie to give Cordelia a gift, using the pretense of blessing the child's safety so Cordelia

wouldn't take it off. It seemed that Jamie wasn't as simple as he appeared. He was quite crafty! This material belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
