The Day I Kissed An Older Man

Chapter 2839

Sherman felt even more disgusted when he saw Rita's eyes widen as she continued to emphasize that he did not need to pay for the meal.

"Did you and your father plan this, with one playing good cop and the other playing bad cop? You can drop your act now. If it weren't for your tacit approval, how could he have made such a demand? I didn't want to come to this dinner, but after what your family did, I couldn't help but ask you about it. Or did you get close to me with impure intentions from the beginning?"

Rita could no longer afford to keep her smile. She felt as if she were pinned to the spot by a pillar of shame. She did not even understand what Sherman was talking about, but she understood it had something to do with her family.

Her only true family member was her father.

"If my family did something that you find unacceptable, I don't know what they did, but if that's the case, let me apologize to you first, okay? Can you please stop speaking so harshly to me?" Rita pleaded. Sherman leaned forward. "Who do you think you are, and what right do you have to speak to me like this? Did you ever think about the damage your father's words would cause my family before you made such a request to me?"

Rita had never seen Sherman like this before. She apologized to him in a fluster, "I'm sorry, I really don't know what happened. I'm truly sorry..."

Rita sat across from Sherman, feeling both aggrieved and anxious. She did not know what had caused Sherman's sudden change in attitude toward her. However, she knew he was not the type to vent his anger without reason.

Rita became even more certain that her father must have done something unforgivable to Sherman behind her back.

She took a deep breath, trying her best to regain her composure. "I don't know what happened, but I still want to apologize on behalf of my family. If possible, could you please tell me what exactly happened I'm sure you're aware I've been staying in the hospital for the past few days, so I'm completely out of the loop when it comes to what my family is doing..."

Rita explained, trying to seek Sherman's understanding. During their last phone call, everything seemed pleasant between them. She hoped Sherman could remember even a bit of that and not treat her like this.

All she received was a cold scoff.

"You've played your cards well. You and your father are truly the perfect team. There are some details I only discussed with you, which means your father shouldn't have any

it

possible for him to know if you hadn't told him? At the end of the day, you and your father plotted this whole scheme!

"Rita, I never expected this from you. I thought we could be friends, but you treated me like a fool."

"I never thought of you as a fool! Can't you give me a chance to find out what really happened before accusing me like this? How is what you're doing now any different from what Karen and Sadie did to me?"

Rita was furious. She detested when people falsely accused her. Sherman was well aware of that, yet he still ruthlessly stabbed her in her most vulnerable spot.

"What's the difference between you

and those two women? You've just turned into the kind of person you used to Kate. I'm not like you though, Rita. Since you're determined to do this, then fine, I agree to marry you. Let's

just see if you can get what you want after marrying me!"
