Chapter 31
ADESSA.
"Kael..." I had no idea how I was able to speak as my throat felt dry.
I felt like I would collapse-tired from all the running and shocked upon seeing him before me.
Was I imagining things? But the warmth of the hands that went up to my arms and began rubbing them was real. I could feel him.
"Did you sell me to Draco?" I asked him in a hoarse voice. I could say many other things, but I wanted to know if I was right that I was feeling relieved to see him. That he wasn't the person behind the mess I was in. "What? Why would you think that?" He asked back, but before I could respond, he was already cursing. "Fuck!"
My body was abruptly turned around, and I ended with my back slammed against the cold, rough wall. Kael pressed his body against mine with his hand resting on the wall beside my face and our foreheads touching each other's. My eyes grew wider when I realized the position we were in.
He was hovering over me, covering almost my whole body, and if you were looking from behind him, I was sure it looked like he was kissing me.
I couldn't breathe.
My heart was palpitating.
There was no doubt he could still affect me. He could still make my knees weak.
I was used to us in this position before the accident, but it had been too long since the last time he was standing this close-if we didn't include the night we had sex before I left his home.
"Sssh..." He hissed, his peppermint breath fanning against the skin of my face. "They're coming back."
My hands on his chest tightened their hold on his shirt as I slowly closed my eyes. My heart was beating erratically, but I couldn't decide if it was that way because of the danger we were in or because he was this close. "Fuck! We lost her again! Are you sure she didn't enter any door here?" I heard the voice of someone approaching.
I closed my eyes tighter as I held my breath., reminding myself not to make any noise.
"I swear I saw her cross that street." The other answered.
"But it's a dead end there."
"She might have climbed the wall."
"What is she? Fucking spider woman?"
"Shut up! Let's just go around and check."
The sound of their voices was fading, and so were the echoing footsteps against the concrete walkway, but my breathing got heavier.
Kael moved, and I felt him pressing his body more into mine. The feel of his breath became warmer against my lips, making my cheeks burn.
I was sure he was too close that if I puckered up my lips, I would be touching his.
"They're gone." He whispered.
"Kael..." I wanted to slap myself. I sounded so needed.
"How many are there running after you?" He asked as he moved away, prompting me to open my eyes. I got lost in his gaze until I saw his eyebrows raised. Only then did I try to recall what his question was. "I saw two," I answered. This content is © NôvelDrama.Org.
He moved away and peered his head out the sidewalk. "I think they're gone."
"How did you find me here?" I asked.
"I'll explain later. I want to take you to my car, but it's parked on the other side, which is exactly where they are heading."
"The room I'm staying in is just four or five doors away from here." I didn't know why I said that. I was not even sure if he was here to help me or crucify me.
All I knew was he was Kael. And I had always put my faith in him.
I knew it should change that outlook, especially since he kicked me out of his life, fucked me, and then let me hear he wanted Desiree.
He was surely not the same man I married.
I was still thinking of all the reasons I shouldn't go with him when I felt a hand grab mine before I was pulled away from this corner and dragged in the direction of my hostel.
"Which one?" he asked.
But then I still pointed at the open gate.
We were walking faster with Kael looking back from time to time to check if there was anyone behind us before we entered the gate. This time, I took the lead and walked ahead of him without peeling my hand off his. "Excuse me." A man's voice rang in the air, and my heart almost jumped out of my chest.
Kael and I turned around, and he must have felt my relief when I let out the breath I was holding because he gently squeezed my hand-the same way he would always do to assure me that I had nothing to worry about. ""Yes?" I answered.
"You can't bring anyone in your room even for a few hours of hook-up." He said nonchalantly, and my eyes grew bigger. Before I could explain, the man spoke again. "You only paid for one person. He cannot go inside your room." I was about to argue, but Kael beat me into talking. "How much is the additional for one more person?"
"Hmmm..." He raised his hand on his chin and began rubbing his stubble. "I can check in the office. Follow me."
"We don't have time." Kael said as he
let go of my hand to grab his wallet.
I saw him hand him bills, which were
Kn
three time's what I paid for, but Į didn't have room to argue with him as he was speaking already. Here. I hope that's enough."
The man's eyes twinkled as he nodded his head a little too much.

"Make sure you don't tell anyone that we are here. Any man or woman, especially my wife or the men she hired to follow me. I can't get caught I'll add more before I go if we can have a peaceful night Kael said before letting out a boyish grin.
"Yes, sir." The man answered happily before motioning with his hand to show us the direction of the stairs going to my room.
My eyes rolled the moment I turned my back to them and hurried to the stairs with Kael following me. I wanted to snap at him that he made it appear I was his side chick, but I guess that could wait.
But on the other hand, it might help so the hostel keeper would not wonder why people were looking for me if someone inquired. And hopefully, he'd do what Kael asked him to do.
We finally reached where my floor was. I could hear the blasting music from the room a few doors before mine, and I was sure we would still hear it in my room like last night and the other nights before.
My hand trembled as I tried to insert
the door key. After two failed
attempts, Kael clamped his hand over mine to stop it from shaking before taking the key from me and inserting it into the keyhole. In just a
matter of seconds, he was able to
open the door and ushered me in.
I stepped inside, and my heart began thudding too loudly. But I mustered all my courage to turn around and face him.
"I didn't steal the ring, I swear."
"The men who took you, did they hurt you?"
We both spoke at the same time, and it took a while before his words registered in my head.
My mouth hung open as I felt this small room getting smaller and closing in on me, making me feel suffocated.
He knew. Kael knew I had killed them.
