The Great Medical Saint

Chapter 458

Rachel puffed up her pretty face in anger. Matthew always brought up this matter. Didn't she make herself clear enough? Did he really not get it, or was he just playing dumb?

They were still broken up, but he still danced around the topic even though things were so straightforward. Rachel sighed. Feeling a little worn out, she lay down and tried to catch her breath. As the heat in her body faded away, she gradually got her head straight again.

Recalling Isaac's death, she immediately snapped back to reality as if she had been splashed with a bucket of cold water.

Isaac was Horace's grandson, and the latter held military power and dominated the northwest region. People knew him as the Tiger. Nobody dared to cross him or they'd be completely wiped out.

Rachel jolted up and held Matthew's hand, saying nervously, "Hurry up and get out of here, Matthew. Bring your parents and Lorraine along to flee together. Otherwise, things might get dangerous." Matthew didn't bring up dating because he had killed Isaac. Horace was going to go all out for revenge, and Matthew didn't want to put Rachel in any trouble.

The moment Rachel came back to her senses, the first thing that came to her mind was Matthew's safety. A wave of warmth washed over him.

"Relax. I wasn't the one responsible for this. The culprits were those ten burly men. I was in the middle of a conversation with Isaac when those big guys stormed in. They beat him up and then took him away." Rachel gasped. "So you're telling me you didn't take on Isaac?"

As Rachel spoke, a hint of doubt flashed in her eyes. The last time Isaac made a move on her, Matthew stepped in right away. She didn't believe he didn't do anything this time.

Matthew earnestly nodded. "If I did it, I'd own up to it. But if someone else did, I'm not going to take the blame for that."

Seeing how serious Matthew looked, Rachel felt he wasn't lying, so her expression eased a lot. But she couldn't shake her anxiety.

"Even if it wasn't you, I'm still worried about the Wood family retaliating."

Matthew leaned closer. "It's okay. I'll listen to you and find a place to lay low for a bit.

"How about this? You'll head back to your company first. If anyone asks about Isaac, tell them you were halfway through a conversation when some people showed up to talk to him. So, you headed out and knew nothing about what happened next."

Rachel eased her frown. "That's a great plan. I won't mention you being here, so it won't give you any trouble."

With a doting look, Matthew fixed his gaze on Rachel and playfully pinched her puffy cheeks. Then, he quickly got out of the car and left.

Feeling annoyed, Rachel cursed, "You scoundrel."

After Matthew was gone, Rachel grinned ear to ear, as though she'd indulged in some candy. She felt good and reminisced about the pleasant moments.

Matthew came to the ninth floor of Opulent Club, where he sat across from Ansel at a section decorated like a pharmacy.

Matthew passed Ansel the Scholarly Tradition, Afflictan Sect's medical literature legacy, along with Golden Wisdom Pen. "Make sure to keep these safe."

Ansel received the items with both hands and carefully placed them in a fancy box. He then closed the lid and set it aside.

With a strange look on his face, Ansel asked, "Is that your girlfriend?"

With that, he glanced at Renae, who was sitting not far away. For the first time, Matthew saw a sleazy look on the old Ansel's face. He raised his hand to stop Ansel from speculating.

"Don't make stuff up.

Ansel looked somewhat disappointed. "Is she married?"

Matthew shook his head. "No. Her husband has passed away."

Ansel grinned with his eyes narrowed before snapping them open. "Hey, are you into widows? Guess you're truly his apprentice."

Feeling speechless, Matthew didn't want to argue about it. Instead, he wanted to learn about Nicholas. "Are you saying my mentor likes widows?"

Ansel nodded, "You guys are quite something. Like him, you keep the same practice going. He has a strong preference for widows, but it's limited to them. Compared to him, you still have a lot to catch up on

Matthew had a hunch that Ansel was jealous of Nicholas since he kept talking about Nicholas' romantic affairs. Matthew never really knew Nicholas well, and ke was looking to use this opportunity to find out more.

"I've retrieved Codex Chillwind and Healer's Satchel from Frostbloom Sect, along with Medieval Medicine and Tiger Seal from Medieval Sect. Then there's Gugleni Compendium and Emeldol Vial of Gugleni Sect in our collection.

"Plus, I also got us the Scholarly Tradition and Golden Wisdom Pen from Afflictan Sect. I believe I have completed half of the task, and I want to meet my mentor."

Ansel crossed his arms. "You won't ever get to see him if you don't finish the task."

Matthew expected this reply and immediately asked about what he actually wanted to find out. "Since I don't get to see my mentor, can you fill me in on details about him? That should be fine, right?"noveldrama

Matthew's goal was to learn more about Nicholas. Meeting him wasn't the main thing. If Matthew came across him and he refused to spill the beans, Matthew couldn't do anything about it.

Ansel looked thrilled. "Of course. There's so much to talk about about your mentor. I can break it down for you one by one. Let's move on to the first point.

"Hang out. First, get me something to drink so I can clear my throat. There's a lot to cover about him that I'll be talking until my voice gives out."

Matthew was at a loss for words. Ansel actually teased him at this point.

Matthew dashed over to grab the coffee pot. After filling a cup with coffee, he carefully set it in front of Ansel before fixing his gaze on Ansel's wrinkled face and asking, "Can you tell me now?"
