THE LYCAN KING’S SECOND CHANCE MATE

Chapter 0267

Chapter 267

REAGAN’S POV.

Once in the elevator, I let out the sigh I was holding and mindlink Kyle, who tells me the maid who made that ridiculous accusation at the banquet hall has been taken to the interrogation room on the ground floor.

Once out of the elevator on the ground floor, the elders try to insist on following me to the interrogation room, but a firm no and a murderous glare from me stops them from further insisting

on the issue.

In the interrogation room, I meet the maid seated at the centre of the room behind a table, her hands bound with cuffs while Kyle sits across from her. He's on his feet by the time I arrive. I give him a silent nod and he understands that his cue to excuse us. Soon, it's just the maid and I in the room.

“Lizzy.” My tone is calm, but dangerous. I don't bother sitting down. I am too restless to stay in one spot.

“My Lord.” Her croaked voice responds. My eyes are on her head because she's looking at the floor below. “Look at me.” I order and she obeys. Her face is wiped clean of any emotions. There's no

sign of fear or guilt or remorse on her face for what she has done.

I have a feeling she'll be a tough nut to crack.

“Are you going to willingly tell me the truth, or will I have to beat it out of you?”

“My Lord, the only truth that has to be said, has been said already.”

“And what's that truth?”

“Ashanti paid me to get her wolfsbane. She also asked me to get a dress that would enable her to hide the wolfsbane in it and take it into the banquet hall without anyone noticing.” She explains without faltering or stammering on her words. There's no iota of fear in her voice. She sounds very

confident and if I didn't know better, I would have believed her.

“Lizzy, can you think of any benefit wolfsbane is to us Lycans and werewolves?” I ask with creased brows and the woman quickly shakes her head in denial.

“No, My Lord. There isn't.”

“You agree with me that it's in fact dangerous and poisonous to our species, don't you?”

“I do, my Lord.”

“So, I want to know…” I walk over to the table and finally take the seat Kyle was occupying when I got in. Irritation pikes through me as I look at her poker face and lying lips. “When exactly was on your mind when you agreed to run that errand for her? What did you think she wanted to do with the wolfsbane?” My eyes never leave her face as I ask that question. She sucks in a deep breath and swallows hard and within seconds, her face is completely flustered.

“I… I…” She finally stutters.

“Did you ask her any questions?” I cut her off.NôvelDrama.Org owns this text.

She shakes her head.

“No, my Lord.”

“Why not?” I ask curiously.

“Because it was none of my business.”

“So you mean to tell me you weren't curious even for a single second about what she planned to do with the wolfsbane?”

“No.” She denies with another head shake.

“Not even when she asked you to prepare a dress that would enable her carry the substance into the banquet hall without anyone noticing? That didn't raise any sort of alarm in your head?”

“No, my Lord.”

“Are you trying to tell me you are an evil woman who cares not about anything going on around

her? Even if you knew something bad was about to happen, you wouldn't raise any alarm to try and stop that bad thing from happening? Is that how you've been living your life?”

“My Lord, I had no idea what she planned to do with…”

“And you didn't think to report the issue to me?” I ask with raised brows. The woman goes mute. Fire scorches my veins, searing from my head to my toes as I lean closer to her. If she had not been a woman, I would have punched her real hard right now to reset her brain because it's obvious she's gone off. “Lizzy I remember having at least five-minute talks with you every morning before I left for work and evening when I returned and during those talks, we discussed Ashanti. What she

had been up to all day, but you didn't mention anything of this sort. Why's that?”

“I… I…” she stutters yet again.

“Why did you decide to keep that information to yourself even after I had commanded you to tell me everything Ashanti was up to?”

Silence.

Total silence.

Her eyes flicker from left to right and down to her fingers that are intertwined with each other. She had nothing to say.

“Did it even happen?”

“Hmmm?” She mumbles with raised brows.

“I mean, did Ashanti even ask you to get wolfsbane? You're making this story up, aren't you?”

“No!” She shakes her head so hard, it almost falls off her neck. “I swear I'm not. Ashanti really asked me to get the wolfsbane.”

Tired of her lies telling, I calmly rise to my feet and step away from the chair.

“I am not an idiot, Lizzy.” Her gaze meets mine. I nod calmly. “I am your King and you can't lie against my mate and go Scott free. Now, I'm going to give you a few days to think hard and when I

come back, we’ll do this all over again. If you're smart, you'll tell me what I want to hear. If you aren't, you'll keep up with the lies and I'll expose you. I hope you make a wise decision when I come back.” I shove both hands in my trouser pockets and saunter out of the room with an eternal frown masked on my face.

Now it begins.
