The Return of the Disguised Princess

Chapter 220

Chapter 220 Leila Returned Without Success

Amelie purposefully brought up the past to twist the knife in Leila’s old wounds, and showed Leila how much dirt she had on

her.

The past never truly disappeared.

Sure enough, Leila’s expression curdled when she heard this. She glared daggers at Amelie.

“What do you mean by dredging up the past? Do you think you can walk all over me just because you know some stale gossip?”

Leila stormed up to Amelie, blazing with her eyes.

“Of course not. I was just curious why you came crawling back. And what makes you so sure you’ll become the Byron family’s daughter–in–law. As far as I know, Mr. Byron feels nothing for the likes of you.”

Amelie’s words were vicious barbs no one could stand to hear.

Murder flashed in Leila’s eyes. She snatched up a wine glass from the table, poised to dash the wine over Amelie’s head.

But Amelie was no wilting flower. She immediately saw Leila’s intention and shoved her hard.

Leila stumbled, nearly toppling over.

She caught herself against the wall, but the wine glass slipped from her fingers.

“How dare you hit me!”

“What, is there a problem? I’m just paying you back in kind. I learned from the best. Aren around, flaunting the Aylward family name?” Còntens bel0ngs to Nô(v)elDr/a/ma.Org

“All right, all right, I’ll let you off this time but don’t think I’ll be so merciful again. You just wait! I’ll make you pay for this!”

She wiped the stains from her dress and glowered at Amelie with undisguised malice.

“Lamont will only ever be mine. Only I qualified to be the Byron family’s daughter–in–law!”

Leila shrieked in frustration. She flung open the door and stormed out of the room.

Only then did the private room regain its calm.

Rex quietly looked at her. He had meant to intervene when he saw Belen was bullied. But after witnessing Amelie’s composed handling of the situation, he realized his interference was unnecessary.

After Leila left, Rex walked over to Amelie.

“I didn’t expect her to come back so arrogant. It seems she’s not afraid of suffering another accident.”

“That’s right. We can’t let someone like her off easily. Don’t worry, Rex. I have a way to deal with her.”

“How do you plan to deal with her? Do you mean to confront her directly? Don’t forget the Aylward family is in its prime now. Dealing with them may prove even harder.”

Amelie didn’t answer but had a strategy in mind.

Leila rushed off in a huff. After leaving the hotel, she got into the car.

She had come to negotiate terms with Amelie and force the latter to leave, but she didn’t get the results she wanted.

Sitting in the car, she fumed.

After finishing their meal, Amelie and Rex hurried upstairs.

Amelie still had unfinished work and really didn’t want to waste her energy on Leila. She was ready to get some much–needed

rest.

She was lost in thought. So many things had happened in the past few days.

Lying in bed, she couldn’t help thinking about Lamont.

He was very kind to her, but she didn’t want to accept his kindness.

As she was drifting off to sleep, a message suddenly came in and jolted her awake.

Amelie checked her phone and found a message from Lamont.

Speak of the devil.

She checked out the message.

[I know Leila came to you today. Don’t worry. I’ll take care of it and not let her hurt you.]

Amelie looked at the message but remained unmoved.

She didn’t expect Lamont to find out so quickly and send her a comforting message right away.

Was this an afterthought? Amelie found it funny.

In the past, Lamont’s belated affection might have blinded her for a while. But now, she saw much more clearly.

She wouldn’t be so easily persuaded.

She put down her phone without replying and closed her eyes, drifting off to sleep.

The next day was the last scene of the drama.

After finishing up here, they would move to another scenic spot for filming.

Amelie was performing steadily as usual and didn’t expect any interruptions. But she suddenly received a call from her best friend, Emilee.

“What did you say? Were you kidnapped? Where are you? I’m coming to find you!”

Amelie asked anxiously.

Emilee gave her an address over the phone and then hung up.

Amelie changed clothes at once, ready to rush over.

Seeing her flustered state, Belen quickly stopped her.

“Amelie, what happened? Why are you in such a hurry?”

Amelie didn’t have time to explain. She just asked Belen to contact Wesley and tell him to meet her at the pier.

Belen was puzzled but didn’t dare delay. She quickly took out her phone and called Wesley.

When she looked up again, Amelie was already gone.

At this time, the pier looked deceptively calm. But locked in a room on a dilapidated ship was a woman.

It was none other than Emilee.

She kept trying to escape, but all the doors were sealed shut.

Suddenly, she noticed a corner where water was steadily seeping in. She realized with dread that the hull must have ruptured.

If she didn’t get out soon, the ship would sink.

Panic rose in her chest. She had managed to contact Amelie but had no idea when help would arrive.

Still, she refused to give up. She kept pounding on the door, but no one came to rescue her.

Was there no way out? Was she going to die here today?

Apprehension filled Emilee. Seeing she couldn’t open the door, she searched for a safe place to hide.

Her only hope now was Amelie.

The minutes ticked by slowly, and the water level in the room rose higher and higher. It was already up to her ankles.

Emilee was extremely distressed, tears filled with her eyes. She feared if this went on much longer, she wouldn’t be able to hold back from crying.

By this time, Amelie had arrived at the pier. But looking at the nondescript docks, she had no idea where to even begin searching.

“What should I do? Where’s Emilee?”

Amelie panicked, growing even more anxious, and was close to losing all sense of direction.

Suddenly, she remembered the phone call from earlier. She quickly dialed the number.

Strangely, no one picked up even after she tried several times.

Little did she know Emilee’s phone had already run out of battery and turned off automatically upon getting wet.

Emilee looked at her useless phone in anguish, feeling powerless to do anything.

Amelie was resolved to search every boat. Just then, Wesley came rushing over.

After getting the call, he hurried over as fast as he could.

“What happened? Who’s in trouble?”

Amelie was now like an ant on a hot stove and frantic with worry.
