The Unwilling CEO’s Love Game

Chapter 168

Chapter 168

Harrison’s words were like throwing down the gauntlet to Melvin.

He had always suspected Harrison would not let go easily, but he never expected him to be so brazen about it under the current circumstance.

Melvin glanced back at the closed door and a sardonic smile played on his lips. “You’re just wasting your time.” “I’d spend a lifetime for the pursuit of my love.” came the lofty response.

Melvin’s eyes narrowed dangerously. If Harrison were in front of him spewing that nonsense, he’d give him a beating he’d never forget.

After hanging up, Melvin took a deep breath to calm his irritation.

This Harrison guy obviously harbored ill intention to Jocelyn.

Just as he was about to head back to his room, Daisy called for Jocelyn.

“Daisy, Jocelyn’s resting. We’re just across from the hospital at the hotel… Don’t worry, the hospital will call if anything happens. Please take some rest, and I’ll pick you up this afternoon to visit Calvin. Yeah, okay.”

With the call ended, Melvin didn’t feel the slightest bit tired.

Feeling needed was like being the axis on which the world spun.

Concerned that Jocelyn might be hungry, Melvin called Yara to order some food and deliver them first to the hotel and then to Daisy’s. He also asked her to eat together with Daisy before bringing Daisy over to the hospital.

Everything was arranged perfectly.

No sooner had Yara brought the food than Jocelyn woke up.

Melvin urged her to eat something before heading back to the hospital.

“Don’t worry, Yara’s picking up Daisy. Have your meal and rest a bit, then we’ll be set.” he reassured her.

Jocelyn nodded and asked if there had been any calls from the hospital.

“None.” Melvin hesitated before adding, “Harrison called you.”

Jocelyn was taken aback. “Did you tell him about my dad being in the hospital?”

“No.” Melvin replied, opting not to burden her with Harrison’s words. There was no need.

She was his. Her heart was his. Harrison was barely a blip on his radar.

“Good.” Jocelyn sighed in relief.

“You are afraid he’d find out it?”

“I’ve already got enough people worried. No need to add another to the list.” Jocelyn genuinely didn’t want to trouble anyone else even with a mere visit, which she felt was an imposition.

Melvin nodded. “Right, no need to involve outsiders.”

That word “outsiders” made Jocelyn glance at him.

He was truly childish to play such petty games at a time like now.

After they ate, Jocelyn and Melvin headed to the hospital. By one o’clock, Yara had brought Daisy over.

They waited outside the intensive care unit for the nurse to call them in for a visit.

When the nurse arrived, Daisy went in..

Jocelyn and Melvin peeked through a small window into the ward. Calvin was laid on the bed and surrounded by medical equipment. The room was so soundproof that they couldn’t hear a thing.

Daisy wiped away tears as she spoke to Calvin.

The ICU was a daunting place, filled with machines and the thin line between life and death.

Someone mentioned that three patients had been wheeled out in just half an hour.

The pressure was immense for those inside; a person talking in the morning could be gone by afternoon.

Jocelyn couldn’t bear to look at the grieving faces or face the struggles between life and death anymore.

Melvin pulled her into his embrace. He soothingly stroked her back and whispered, “Calvin’s going to be okay.”

She nodded against his shoulder.

After three days in the ICU, Calvin was moved to a regular room. He lost weight in that short time.

Jocelyn had taken four days off work; but as a teacher of a graduating class, she couldn’t leave her students for too long.

“You get to work. I’ll help Daisy here.” Melvin reassured her, like a balm to her worries.

They had hired a nurse, but Daisy knew her husband was a proud man who disliked being fussed over by strangers. So, without a nurse, she took care of him herself.

Calvin was a solid man, and Daisy, though spirited, couldn’t manage his weight alone.

Initially, Calvin had a catheter while confined to bed, but once he started on liquid food and the catheter was

removed, he needed to use the restroom.

Melvin helped out and ordered specially prepared meals suitable for recovery. He took such good care of Calvin and Daisy that onlookers assumed he was their son.

One day, a fellow patient who was about to be discharged passed by Calvin’s room and saw Melvin entering with a thermal box. The patient knocked and followed him in.

“Your son is so devoted. I’ve seen him running around here non-stop these days.” the patient said, looking at

Melvin with clear admiration.

Calvin and Daisy exchanged a startled glance, then shook their heads. “He is not our son.”

“Oh? Then who is he?” the patient was intrigued and inquired.

Calvin and Daisy felt a twinge of embarrassment. They had been so against Melvin and Jocelyn’s relationship, and now here he was, more devoted than a son.

NU A FE !

“Actually, he is my boyfriend.” Jocelyn interjected, having arrived just in time to catch the conversation.

The patient turned to see Jocelyn approaching Melvin with a smile and slipping her arm through his. “This is my boyfriend, Melvin.”

“So, he’s the future son-in-law,” the patient chuckled. “What a blessing. Not every child has such filial respect these days.

Jocelyn beamed a smile.

Meanwhile, Calvin and Daisy felt a complex mix of emotions. They smiled awkwardly.

After the patient left, Jocelyn checked on her father, who the doctor said could be discharged in a few days.

Ive got no classes today. You should head back early.”

Knowing Melvin had been busy and it was already a hassle to have him at the hospital, Jocelyn was mindful not to take advantage of him anymore. He was her chosen partner indeed, but that didn’t mean she could

show him no consideration.

“Yeah, you go on home now,” Dalsy said, giving Melvin the nod to leave.

Daisy had been watching him these past few days, taking note of everything he did. It wasn’t lost on her.

She and Calvin still couldn’t approve that he’d kept the relationship with Jocelyn on the down-low, but the guy didn’t really have any serious flaws.

Melvin seemed aloof as if he didn’t need anyone; but deep down, Melvin was attentive and careful.

In the past few days, the director of the hospital and a couple of cardiology experts had been dropping by frequently to check on Calvin’s condition. If it hadn’t been for Melvin’s connection, who would have the time to come by for a visit as regularly as much?

Just moments ago, when Melvin brought in food, he received a call to handle some business at the office.

He told Jocelyn, “Give me a call if you need anything. I’ll come over once I’ve sorted things out.”

“No need to come back. You go and get some rest.” Jocelyn insisted with sincere care.

“It’s alright.” Melvin said his goodbyes to Calvin and Daisy and then hurried off.

Once the door closed, Daisy laid out the food on the table. Looking at the nutritious meals, she sighed, “We really do owe him a lot these past few days.” C0pyright © 2024 Nôv)(elDrama.Org.

Jocelyn walked over to see the three servings of food.

Melvin hadn’t eaten his share before leaving, so it naturally became Jocelyn’s.

“He may seem a bit too aloof, but he’s a good guy.” Jocelyn admitted. She was genuinely surprised and touched by Melvin’s actions over the last few days.

Previously, he had not wanted her friends and family to know about him, which went hand-in-hand with his reluctance to get married.

But now, he had truly stepped up for her sake.

Daisy kept her head down and ate quietly for a while before finally saying, “We mean no offense, as long as he truly cares for you and doesn’t let you suffer. I’m not saying this just because of how he’s

been taking care of your dad these days. What’s most important is that we could see how much he loves you.”

“I know.” Jocelyn acknowledged their concerns and felt a weight relieved in her heart. She promised her parents, “We’re going to be just fine.”
