The Vampire Kings Slave Mate

Chapter 42

Chapter 42: Mary

Nikolai and Kade had been extremely busy since the day of my coronation. The only time I saw Nikolai was at bedtime but when I awoke he was always gone. Nikolai had told me they were preparing for the

Alphas’ Summit. Nikolai had sent a letter to every Alpha advising them that the location for the Alpha Summit was changing, now everyone would be meeting at the palace. Nikolai stated that he wanted all the leaders of the different supernatural races to meet his new Queen, and that he couldn’t afford to leave the castle, not so soon after the rouge attacks.

Yeah, that’s what the coup that the werewolves had started was now being called, a rouge attack.(This novel will be daily updtaed at www.noveljar.com) Alpha Ash claimed that not a single wolf from his pack would’ve attacked the King’s castle, and since there wasn’t concrete evidence to prove that it was a direct attack from Ash, Nikolai had labeled it a Rouge attack. As King, Nikolai could have condemned Alpha Ash to death the night the wolves had attacked, but Nikolai wanted to be a fair and just ruler. He wanted to let the other’s know that they could trust him, he wanted his subjects to follow him, not because they feared him, but because they knew he had their best interest in mine. If Nikolai had killed Alpha Ash that night it may have caused another war, which Nikolai was trying hard to avoid.

“I still think he should have killed him the night of Queen Mary’s coronation after he threatened her.” Dru stated.

The four of us, Draq, Dru, Nevaeh, and I were sitting in the kitchen discussing the upcoming summit over a cup of coffee and some fresh bagels.

“If he killed him right then and there, the others would have suspected that what Alpha Ash was claiming was true.” Replied a very annoyed Draq.

He and his twin brother had been discussing what to do with the Alpha non-stop. They both wanted to be the one who ended him. Not that I blamed either of them; they’d been tortured to near death under the instructions of the werewolf Alpha. Unfortunately for them, I had already claimed Ash’s life. His life would end by my hands and my hands alone. It was under his command that the human’s were treated like vermin, it was under his command that the humans were kidnapped, raped, beaten, and slaughtered. He saw humans as objects and not as living beings. As the Alpha of the humans, it was my responsibility to keep them safe, and the only way I could ensure their safety was by getting rid of their biggest threat.

“Earth to Mary!” Nevaeh called waving her hand in my face.

“Uh, sorry I was lost in thought, what’s up?” I asked looking around the table at my small group of trusted friends.

“I was just telling the guys that Kade had told me, that he and Nikolai were discussing a new law that they were planning on introducing to the Council members today at the summit and I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on what that law might be.” Nevaeh stated looking around the table at all of us.

“I’m not sure. Nikolai has been very tight lipped about the entire thing. He doesn’t want to let me

know what it is, just in case the council rejects it.” I reply, then I look to Draq and Dru, “You’re his advisors, when you’re not my personal guards, has he told you anything?”

They each grimace and look down towards their mugs, “Even if we knew anything, we wouldn’t be able to tell you Mary, it’s unfair of you to ask us.” Draq responded.

“I know.” I sigh, “I just thought that now that I was Queen, instead of a blood slave, I would be part of these meetings.”

“And in the future you will be, but right now your safety is the upmost importance.(This novel will be daily updtaed at www.noveljar.com)” Dru responds, “And you are in charge of preparations for the Summit. It

is your responsibility as the Queen to make sure every visiting leader has a room and that the correct seating arrangements have been made for meals, and that the correct meals are served.”

“Yes, this years summoning is of upmost importance. It’ll be the first time since Nikolai’s mother slaughtered the other summit leaders.” Draq stated, nodding his head in agreement with Dru’s response.

“Wait…What?!?” Nevaeh exclaimed, you can’t just drop that ball on us and not tell us the story behind it!”

Drag and Dru looked at each other and then looked at me, “Has Nikolai not told you about his mother?”

I stared down at my hands nervously, if I said no, the dragon twins might not tell me anything, but if I say yes, they might now that I’m lying, I let out a sigh before responding, “We haven’t really had a chance to discuss our family dynamics. I only know that the Queen raised Nikolai and when she died he became the King. And I know his father died when he was very young.”

Draq ran his hands through his hair, while Dru dragged his hand down his face.

“If circumstances were different, I’d wait and let Nikolai tell you his family history, but with the palace hosting the Alpha Summit this year, I feel it’s important that you know the history behind the kingdom and how it was formed.” Draq replied after giving his brother a confirming glance.

Nevaeh wiggled in her seat and placed her both of her hands on her chin leaning forward on the table “Oh this is going to be good,”

I couldn’t help but let out a strangled laugh, did I want to know the history behind how the kingdom was formed? It’s not like I had a choice in the matter. Drag and Dru will tell me whether I want to hear it or not, and perhaps knowing the history could help assist with my efforts to free the humans from slavery. I bit my bottom lip nervously waiting for the twins to begin the story.

Instead of telling the story however, the twins merged hands and began to recite a chant, “ (This novel will be daily updtaed at www.noveljar.com) ,” Take us to the past, so we may find answers to our future.

When the twins stopped chanting, I felt my stomach lurch as if I was being pulled into once direction, suddenly it felt like the world was swirling around me, blurry images rushed past my eyes. The sensation was similar to what it felt like when Nikolai teleported us from one location to the next, but it wasn’t quiet the same. Even though it felt like the world was swirling around me, it didn’t feel like I

was moving at all. When the swirling finally stopped, I had to close my eyes and take a few deep breaths to calm my stomach, when I opened my eyes, the kitchen scene from before was different. Instead of the top of the art appliances the kitchen now held, there was a small wood burning stove and a brick oven near by. There were maids scurrying around preparing what looked like supper.

“Hurry up Greta, the Mister, will be here soon. You know the Misses wants his welcome back meal to be absolute perfection.”

“Yes Ma’am. The small girl named Greta replied. She looked like she could be no more than seven, but she moved with the grace of a woman in her late thirties, she hurried over to the brick oven and pulled out a fresh loaf of white bread.

*Oh and Greta,” The plump woman with dull grey eyes and white wispy hair called, “Make sure you run down to the market and fetch some fresh blood. The witches had a fresh shipment of blood come in, get the newest bottles for the royal family, and the ones from last month for the palace servants. The villagers can have the remaining stock.”

“Yes, Ma’am.” Greta responded nodding her head. This text is © NôvelDrama/.Org.

“Go ahead and take Philip and Marjorie with you, you’ll need the extra hands.” The elderly woman responded.

*Thank you Ma’am!” The little girl exclaimed, this time a smile lighting up her face, showing a pair of pearly white fangs.

“Run off now dear,” The old woman smiled, shooing the young girl out of the kitchens.

A little while later a small boy with jet black hair and cerulean blue eyes came running into the kitchen, “Hi Harriet, is Greta here?” The little boy asked excitedly with a small timid smile.

Unfortunately she’s had to go to the market little prince.” The elders woman, whose name I now realized was Harriet responded.

“Oh okay,” the little boy replied his smile slowly disappearing from his face.

“But as soon as she gets back, I’ll let her know. Now how about a biscuit, they’re freshly made.”(This novel will be daily updtaed at www.noveljar.com) Harriet smiled, handing the little prince a biscuit.

“Thank you Miss Harriet. When papa comes home I’m going to tell him of my intentions to marry Greta.” The little boy smiled largely.

“Well with that smile Prince Nikolai, I am sure your parents will give you the world, now off you go, so I can finish dinner preparations.” Harriet smiled shooing a young Nikolai out of the kitchen.

Once again I feel like I am being pulled in a different direction as the images swirl past us.

“Please someone!” I hear the loud wails of a little boy, “Someone please help my mommy. Please!” The little boy sobs, making my heart wrench out for him.

In the small corner of the kitchen, Nikolai is hunched over the body of a woman who’s portrait I had saw hanging in the castle, this must be the late Queen. She has jet black hair similar to Nikolai’s and freckles cover her nose. Her eyes had lines left over from years of laughter, and I could tell from the wrinkles around her lips that she’d smiled often, but now the woman lay in Nikoali’s arms crying out in pain, I saw blood running down her body and her skin was scorched in burns, but I couldn’t see any wounds nor the source of her pain.

“Please!” Nikolai cried loudly, his aura growing stronger, the more desperate he became for help, in that moment, I could see the king that that young boy grew up to be,

“Master Nikolai,” Harriet calls running from the dinning hall, “what is going o… Greta!” Shrieks Harriet loudly, “Greta call the witch doctor! Eliot, Philip help me get the Queen up to her room.”

“No!” Nikolai screamed, his eyes turning blood red as he glared at the men approaching his mother, “Don’t touch her!”

“Nikolai,” Harriet, called trying to sooth him, “Nikolai, we need to get your mom upstairs so the doctor can look over her, Phillip and Eliot are only going to help get her to her room. You can follow them up there if you’d like.”

Nikolai’s brave facade diminished as he backed off and let the men take his mother, “Is she going to die?” He asked tears once again falling down his face.

“No, Nikolai, she won’t die. She may not be the same as she once was, but your mom is a strong woman. If anyone can overcome the pain she is going through it is her.”

Harriet replied her expression somber as she held Nikolai up against her bosom.”

“Do yo..you kn..kn..know what’s wrong wi..with her?” Nikolai stutters out between gasps as he tries to calm himself.

“I have my suspicions,” Harriet responds, “But let’s wait for the Witch Doctor to confirm them. I don’t want to assume something that I don’t fully understand, Now why don’t you go up to your mother’s room and wait for the doctor to arrive.”

Nikolai nods and starts to walk towards the stairs before stopping and facing Harriet, (This novel will be daily updtaed at www.noveljar.com)“Miss Harriet, please have a messenger sent out to meet with my father, he’ll want to know that Mother isn’t feeling well.”

Nikolai didn’t see the look on Harriet’s face as he’d already turned to head back towards the stairs, but I saw a look of intense sadness pass over her face. Harriet knew more than what she was letting on.
