Chapter 0575
Chapter 0575
Earlier, when the maids had crowded outside my door, I hadn't even noticed that Nicholas had somehow left his
room.
Tabitha's room was arranged right next to his, so it was no surprise he had overheard every word I said. But it didn't matter at all. I couldn't stand even looking at him now.
With so many people around, I had no intention of engaging in pointless arguments. Lowering my gaze, I turned to open the door and go back inside.Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.
Just as my hand touched the handle, a strong grip landed on my shoulder.
The maids, startled by Nicholas storming over, quickly scattered out of sight.
I turned around, smacking his hand off my shoulder with all the strength I could muster. My palm burned with pain, and the fiery red mark on the back of his hand made it clear that he hadn't escaped unscathed either.
I bit back my frustration and spoke in a low voice. 'Tabitha's asleep. If you have something to say, we can talk tomorrow."
I reached for the doorknob again, but Nicholas stepped forward and blocked my way. A sliver of light from inside the room slipped through, only to be swiftly cut off when he slammed the door shut.
Before I could react, he slid his arms under mine and lifted me off the ground. In the blink of an eye, he carried me next door and pressed me against the door to his bedroom.
Nicholas leaned in. His scorching breath brushed my face, sending a shiver through me. His heat was so overwhelming that I felt as though I might burn up just by being near him.
Unlike him, I had recovered somewhat after drinking ginger tea, soaking in a hot bath, and getting some rest. Even without touching him, his pale, drawn face was enough to show how poorly he was doing.
"You don't have to put on this act for me. It won't make me feel sorry for you. I didn't realize you were such a performer, Nicholas," I said with a sneer.
I pushed against him, but his grip was too strong. Trapped against the door, my patience was quickly running out.
"If you're sick, get treatment. Don't block my way. I'm not a doctor!"
Nicholas didn't budge. With his head lowered, his trembling shoulders betrayed his emotions.
"I'm not doing this for you to see. It's just... It makes me feel a little better."
'Then go do it somewhere else. Stop blocking my way!" My voice rose as I glared at him. "Nicholas, move!"
'Is there really nothing left for us to say?" His voice dropped further, heavy with despair.
"If I said I was sorry, could you forgive me? I don't even know what I was thinking back then. I just wanted a chance to be with you. I was scared-scared you'd leave again, for another three years.
"I panicked. I lost my head, I shouldn't have controlled Wendy and Tabitha like that. But I was desperate. I couldn't wait anymore...
"Stop it, Nicholas!" I slapped him hard across the face, cutting him off mid-sentence.
He winced in pain, clutching his cheek as his eyes reddened. He looked like just a defeated child that would never grow up.
The sight of him like this only fueled my anger.
'Nicholas, stop acting like this. You're just indulging in self-pity. Stay in your little world if you want, but I've already played along. I stayed. Isn't that enough for you? Stop performing in front of me. The more I watch, the
less I care."
