Chapter 2015
Chapter 2015
His words were unpleasant and any woman would find them humiliating.
However, it wasn't the same for Janice.
She only snickered, "Of course you're saying this in front of Celeste. You've done everything, you've impregnated me and I even had a miscarriage. Don't you think it's ridiculous for you to try to shake this off?"
Gary was filled with anger.
He knew how vicious she could be, and this time, he had seen it for himself.
Not only did she cross the line, she was also still trying to stick by his side.
Gary did not forget that Janice mentioned that she still had something up her sleeve. He still couldn't figure out what that was, but he knew he had to act fast before she could make use of it.
He snorted, "You can never break us apart."
"Gary, I'm afraid it's just your wishful thinking. Celeste is a sensitive person and I'm sure she is already shaken up after this," Janice refuted.
Janice knew that she was at a loss as Gary had already gone back on his words.
She didn't even think she had a chance in this. However, she was still willing to risk it all to score a chance.
She refused to believe that Gary was not somehow forced into breaking his promise.
Gary turned around to look at Celeste. He was worried.
It was a quick glance but he was still terrified at what he saw.
Celeste's face was devoid of colour and she had a weak smile hanging on her face. The emotions in her gaze were complicated.
He knew for a fact that Celeste had indeed wavered.
Janice's words hit the nail on the head. Gary fell silent.
"Celeste must have been shaken up about this. Gary, you can see for yourself that she isn't the bigger person in this," Janice paused for a moment and there was no response from Gary. She then smiled, "I'm afraid I'm your perfect match."
"You aren't qualified to be," Gary retorted.
"It's not up to you to decide on that," Janice sounded even prouder of herself, "Let's just wait and see. Gary, keep in mind that you're the one who made things difficult for us. If you don't come back and be with me two months later, don't blame me for whatever happens next."
Gary frowned, "Janice, I'd like to see what you're capable of."
"Celeste, once again, I'll advise you to leave Gary immediately so that you can preserve your last shred of dignity," Janice snickered, "That's all I want to say. I'll leave it to you to decide when you should end things with him."
"We won't break up. You can just forget about it," Gary said as his expression darkened.
On the other hand, Celeste didn't say anything.
The call was immediately hung up by Janice.
Gary's eyebrows furrowed tightly and his eyes sank. He put away the phone and looked at Celeste. He was worried about her.
He was afraid that she would be affected by Janice's words.
Gary's heart sank upon noticing her silence and pale face. He felt that he had to solve this as soon as possible.
"Celeste?" He called out with concern.
Celeste shook her head and muttered, "I'm fine. You don't have to worry about me. Just try to investigate further on this."
Gary hesitated for a moment before fixing his gaze on Celeste. There was no other emotion brimming in his eyes other than the fact that he was concerned about Celeste. He pursed his lips and said, "Sure, let me make a phone call."
"Okay," Celeste nodded.
They went to the dining hall together.
Celeste was quiet all the way.
After sitting down from across each other, a hearty meal was served on the table.
Celeste ate in silence. She was expressionless although it was visible that she was in deep thought.
Gary was annoyed. He picked up his phone and called Yandrea in front of Celeste.
"Get the surveillance records of the bar where I drank that night," Gary requested.
Yandrea laughed, "Why are you asking for it now?"
"Just look for it. It has been months, so I'm not sure if they still keep the records with them," Gary said.
"Do you still need me to go there myself? You can just hack into their system," Yandrea said.
Gary gritted his teeth, "You do what you can, and I'll do what I can."
Yandrea burst into laughter again, "I see. You are being careful because you don't want anyone to be messing with the records, am I right?"
"Just start investigating when I tell you to do so nicely," Gary felt like he was venting his anger out on Yandrea.
"Are you venting your anger out on
me?" Yandrea wasn't mad as he continued to tease, "I don't think there's anything to worry about. Even if something did turn up in the records, it will only do Janice good. She wouldn't delete or mess with anything that could prove what you two were up to that night."
"I don't think so," Gary sneered.
Yandrea was confused and asked, "What do you mean?"
"Perhaps nothing actually happened," Gary replied.
Yandrea raised his eyebrows and guessed, "If that's the case, we should probably check the hotel's registration records as well as the surveillance records too."
"That's right," Gary smiled.
"Things are finally getting interesting. Alright, leave this to me then," Yandrea was intrigued.
He was always in for more trouble.
Gary knew him well and that was why he asked for
Yandrea's help in this.
He turned on the speaker while on the call with Yandrea. He didn't want to hide anything from Celeste.
Ever since that incident was exposed, Gary no longer wanted to hide anything from her.Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.
He hoped that he could at least make some amendments for all his wrongdoings in order to minimize the damage done to their relationship. Celeste was still eating in silence. After hanging up the call, Gary smiled at Celeste and said, "I will let you know everything from now on. I will investigate this thoroughly."
Celeste nodded and didn't say anything else.
Seeing her like this, Gary sniffed in dejection and fell silent too.
He knew for a fact that he was in the wrong. With that, he didn't dare bother Celeste anymore.
During their meal, Gary stole a few glances at Celeste.
Noticing Gary's concerned gaze, Celeste put on a warm smile as she looked up at him, "I'm fine. We will keep things as they are until we get to the bottom of this."
Gary's heart tightened. The hidden meaning behind her words was implying that if the result was proven to be otherwise, Celeste might consider leaving him.
Although she did not state it clearly, Gary could still understand what she was trying to convey.
After a while, Celeste asked, "You brought me here because you didn't want me to run into Lowell, right?"
Gary was startled. His smile turned a little bitter after being exposed, "Something like that. I won't deny that Lowell was one of the main reasons why I brought you here."
"You were also worried that I will
elne
demand to break up with you, so you brought me on this trip, hoping that we could at least end things in a peaceful manner, am I right?" Celeste was straightforward and came clean with what she was thinking.
Gary was caught off guard and something flashed in his eyes. It was unfathomable, but his eyes clearly darkened.
"Anyway, you've already promised Janice to be her boyfriend. The only thing you could do was end things with me earlier," Celeste smiled wryly, "I'm still clueless to what Janice is using to threaten you and Lowell."
"You don't have to worry about that," Gary consoled, "I will investigate this incident thoroughly. No matter what she's using against me, I will never be threatened." "You can't guarantee that," Celeste looked calm although she sounded a little concerned.
She didn't want to get Grace involved if they didn't manage to settle this once and for all on their own.
After all, Grace was still pregnant. She didn't want their affairs to affect her pregnancy. Therefore, they had to be careful about this.
Gary's heart sank as he looked up at Celeste.
Celeste then brought up casually, "Your mother is still pregnant. Let's make sure Janice doesn't escalate this to your parents."
Gary felt ashamed.
Celeste was still considering his mother's wellbeing and pregnancy despite her own pain.
Gary felt even guiltier for what had happened.
His gaze locked with Celeste's for a long while before he asked, "Celeste, what about you?"
Celeste's heart tightened and she tried to dismiss his concerns, "What about me?"
"How should I take care of your feelings?" Gary was asking Celeste, but more so it was a question for himself.
He didn't know how to make it up to Celeste and comfort her to minimize the damage that was already dealt.
He was upset and frustrated with himself.
Celeste didn't say anything and just smiled as though she was mocking herself.
"I'm fine. Don't worry," She said.
However, the more she said so, the more upset Gary felt.
"I can't help but worry. I know there's nothing I can say to make this better," Gary was dejected, "Anyway, let's just eat. We should at least take care of
ourselves before figuring out what to do next."
