Chapter 2039
Chapter 2039
Janice burst out laughing after hearing what Celeste said. The laughter was shrill and piercing. "It's rare for you to have nothing to say. Celeste, when will you leave Gary?"
Celeste frowned when she heard Janice's laughter, narrowing her eyes at Janice. "What does that have to do with you?"
"Of course it does," Janice replied. "He promised to be my boyfriend, and you are still hanging around him. How is he going to be at peace with you around?"
"My presence has nothing to do with him being okay about being your boyfriend," Celeste retorted. "If he loves you, he'll be with you. If he doesn't, then it's pointless even if you have him with you."
"Celeste, you are shameless." Janice scolded, "You've seen me together with him, and yet you're still acting like this? You're horrid, Celeste." "You and I both know that I'm not the shameless one here." Celeste did not yield to Janice. "I won't let you threaten me as you please."
Janice sneered, "I think you are just stubborn. I'm pretty sure you're just falling apart on the inside."
Celeste felt a sharp pain in her chest as Janice hit the nail on the head.
She closed her eyes again and said quietly, "Even if I was hurting, I won't let you do as you please."
"You insane b*tch!" Janice yelled.
Celeste's gleaming eyes were filled with a sense of irony.
Insane?
Perhaps she really was insane.
There was a full-on war going on in her heart, and it wouldn't be wrong for Janice to call her as insane.
Hence, she did refute what Janice said.
She just closed her eyes and tried to suppress the roaring waves of pain that crashed through her. She struggled with the fact that she'd let Gary go because of Janice.
Her reluctance intensified inside her chest, and it would not abate.
Her failure to suppress her emotions would inevitably make her irritable.
Celeste's irritation wasn't going to go away, along with her hate for Janice and reluctance to let go of Gary. Hence, she couldn't be bothered to be nice towards Janice.
"Janice, consider this a warning. Even though I've let go of Gary, it's only because I love him. He'll never love you, Janice." Janice snorted at Celeste's words. "You're ridiculous for telling me these things. You're just sad, afraid and hurt. I felt the same way when you and Gary first got together.
I could only keep my feelings at bay by telling myself that he has a girlfriend and not to love him anymore. However, the more I kept it in, the more I loved him. I wanted him desperately, and there was no way I could hold it in."
It was indeed impossible to refute what Janice said.
Wasn't Celeste the same?
This kind of repressed emotion was really hard to kill.
Celeste slowly clenched her fist so tightly that her nails etched half-moon shapes into her palms. The pain pierced through her angry haze, and she finally came to her senses.
The pain from her nails woke her up.
Celeste closed her eyes and reminded herself again that it was meaningless to talk to Janice.
Celeste breathed in deep and took a minute to calm down.
"You'll never stop feeling this way, Janice." Celeste then immediately hung up the phone without giving Janice a chance to respond.
She blocked Janice's number right after.
She did not want to pay her any more attention.
She needed to keep calm when she was over at the Jones family's household. She couldn't let Grace see that anything was wrong.
She was extremely grateful to them
for all that they'd done to her, and she didn't know how to repay them. Hence, it was more than fair for her to not worry Grace any more as she was pregnant.
However, Celeste did not expect Grace to have overheard her conversation through the door.
Grace was someone that had been through a lot in life. Her expression soured as soon as she heard what Celeste said, and she slowly bobbled her way back to her room,
Heinz spotted Grace looking unhappy when he returned back to the room. Shocked, he went over to her and asked, "Honey, what's wrong? Why are you looking so pale?"
She looked up at Heinz. She was a little stunned when she met her husband's caring eyes. Then, she shook her head and said, "Nothing, I'm just a little tired."
"Hurry up and rest then. Why don't you lie down?"
Heinz immediately raised the quilt for his wife.
Then, Grace laid down on the bed.
Heinz sat by the bed and said to his wife, "Gary promised to change his ID tomorrow. He's quite obedient, isn't he?"
Grace scoffed and asked sarcastically, "I wonder if he's being so obedient because he's done something to be guilty about." Surprised, Heinz was at a loss as to why Grace said that.
He looked at his wife carefully and his gaze grew deeper. "Why would you say that about your son?"
Grace remained silent.
Only then did Heinz notice that his wife's complexion seemed to have gotten worse. He suddenly felt that something was wrong.
"Honey, what's wrong with you?"
They had been together for years. Heinz could tell at a glance that something was wrong.
Any slight changes were picked up by Heinz right away, and he felt that Grace was furious at something
Was it the pregnancy mood swings?
Recently, Grace had been flitting between moods very often.
Heinz was either always getting teased or insulted, but he understood that his wife was having a tough pregnancy as an older mother. Hence, he took it all in stride.
However this time, Heinz felt that his wife wasn't angry at him. Instead, she seemed to be mad at Gary.
Gary and Celeste had been away for a few days. What did they do to anger Grace upon returning?Content property of NôvelDra/ma.Org.
Something was wrong.
Heinz was confused. Grace seemed fine during their meal earlier. What happened?
Heinz couldn't help feeling a little worried. Something must have happened.
He just had no idea what. Perhaps it was time to talk to Gary.

"I told you that everything is fine. The only thing Grace knew was that Gary had wronged Celeste, but she had no proof. Hence, she wouldn't simply mouth off in front of Heinz.
