Chapter 342
Chapter 342
"So you're saying she..." Brett mumbled, licking his dry lips. This content belongs to Nô/velDra/ma.Org .
"What?" Liam gave Brett a quizzical look, trying to read his face as he stopped mid-sentence.
Brett's face was as stoic as ever, his eyes seemingly holding something unsaid. His eyes were bloodshot.
Brett dropped his gaze, ultimately saying nothing.
"No biggie." He was just preparing himself for the worst-case scenario.
If it really was Izabella, he had to hold onto her, even if it meant risking his life.
To him, Izabella was like a lifeline, a floating board in the stormy sea.
He was admittedly selfish; he could watch Izabella from afar without disturbing her, but he couldn't bear to see her with another man. That would be more painful than being killed by her.
If he had to choose death, he'd want Izabella to be the one to do it. Otherwise, he'd live in resentment, a life worse than death.
Brett was sure that the "Izabella" in the video was indeed Izabella.
Since Izabella had come back, it meant he had another chance. He didn't want to waste it.
If people could be resurrected from the dead, then there was hope for a broken mirror to be mended.
Brett had thought of the worst-case scenario but didn't expect it to be placed in front of him when he arrived in R City.
By the time he arrived in R City, it was already 3:30. The rain in R City was lighter than in J City, but the temperature was colder. The continuous rain made the cold seep into his bones.
When he arrived at the filming site, it was chaotic, and Izabella was nowhere to be found.
Brett was terrified. He felt as if he were walking on non-Newtonian fluid, fearing he'd sink in if he relaxed even a bit. He had no sense of security and constantly felt anxious.
As Brett looked at the palm lines on his left hand, he noticed a distinct scar cutting across his lifeline.
Looking at his palm, he felt as if the kite string had returned to his hand. His hand was stretched out in mid-air, fingers curled.
The string had been broken once, so now that it was back in his hand, he didn't even have the courage to pull it.
Izabella was missing. Finding someone in a place like this was no easy task, especially someone who was supposedly dead.
Brett feared that he might be too late to see her, and she would not be the same person anymore.
His face was pale from fear. As he listened to the bustling noise in the distance, he felt as if he was standing in a void. As he swayed, Liam, who was standing next to him, quickly supported him.
"What happened?" Brett asked in a hoarse voice.
"I'm having someone look into it." Liam couldn't be distracted, so he delegated the task of finding Izabella to others while he himself stayed with Brett.
He didn't expect the summer in R City to be so cold. The cool breeze made his fatigue vanish in an instant.
Liam shivered. He was okay but worried that Brett might catch a cold due to his weakened state.
Brett's health had deteriorated, and he had been pulling all-nighters for several days, skipping meals.
He had barely eaten anything during lunch. Looking at his pale face, Liam was worried that he wouldn't be able to hold on.
"President Windham, why don't you go sit in the car? It's cold outside."
Brett's hand was as cold as the outside temperature. He held onto Liam tightly, but his hand didn't warm up.
"No need, I'll stay here." Brett was stubborn and wouldn't easily change his mind. He worried that if he went back to the car, he might miss Izabella.
Liam knew Brett's personality. After failing to persuade him, he took a thick coat from the trunk for Brett to wear. Holding an umbrella in one hand and his phone in the other, he finally sorted out the whole situation.
"Izabella had some problems."
Brett's face tensed up as he heard this. "What kind of problem?"
"She was sabotaged by a colleague."
"Do you know where she is now?"
Liam shook his head honestly. "I don't know. We've checked the nearby cameras but didn't see her. It might take some more time..."
Brett couldn't wait any longer, but he had no choice but to wait.
He leaned against the car, checking Twitter on his phone. Seeing the negative comments about Izabella, he took screenshots and ordered his team to shut down those accounts.
Sadly, he didn't have the right status now; otherwise, he would also send court summons to these people.
Brett might not follow the entertainment industry, but it doesn't mean he doesn't understand it. A public relations team is indispensable.
Izabella was in big trouble, but her company was silent, which was suspicious.
Checking a small company's management was not difficult for him. He could dig up the company's dirty secrets within three days.
Brett glanced at the time on his phone. Two hours had passed, and it was already 5:30.
There was still no news about Izabella. She seemed to have vanished into thin air.
Brett pursed his lips, his face not looking good. It was as if he was a storm brewing, making people fearful. Liam, who had been by his side, felt it the most.
"Stop looking for Izabella. Check Casey's properties in R City. Search every place related to him."
People can't just disappear. The only person capable of helping Izabella at the scene was Casey.
He had thought about it but didn't want to admit this worst-case scenario.
He didn't know why he was still insisting on finding Izabella by himself.
After checking Casey's properties in R City, and going through the surveillance footage one by one, they finally saw Casey and a thin man getting out of a car in a seemingly insignificant surveillance video.
The video was fuzzy, but Brett could instantly identify Izabella in disguise.
His heart sank. Izabella was really with Casey.
It's okay! Brett tried to console himself. They were just colleagues hanging out; Izabella wouldn't fall for Casey. She wouldn't even recognize him.
But as he drove closer and the GPS route shortened, the fake relaxed expression on Brett's face began to fade.
He didn't dare to overthink or let anyone investigate what happened between Casey and Izabella these days. He was afraid he wouldn't be able to handle it, that he would lose his mind right there and then.
He was eager to go home, but he didn't dare to move forward once he arrived. He stared into the distance with a complex expression.
The sky in R City was like Brett's mood, dark and gloomy, without a glimmer of light. He opened the car window and took a deep breath of cold air. It felt like he was inhaling ice rather than air, freezing his insides.
He got out of the car with an umbrella, Liam walking on his right. The only sounds on the quiet road were the clicks of their shoes against the pavement and their heavy breaths.
Dim streetlights lit up, casting a long shadow on the yellowish road.
Izabella followed Casey back to his house. It was clear he lived here often. The house was a small villa, not big but very cozy, decorated in warm tones.
"Come in and sit." It was his idea to bring Izabella back, but he was the one who was flustered.
Izabella stared at his back with a meaningful gaze.
Casey quickly composed himself and methodically brought Izabella some hot water. Some raindrops were on her head, glistening like sugar under the light.
"Do you want to take a shower first?"
