Two Times the Charm

Chapter 408

Chapter 408

Clara furrowed her brows, “I swear, I didn’t! She just tripped and fell. I didn’t even touch her!” Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.

Before Sophia could respond, Leah’s eyes began to well up with tears, “Sophia, I appreciate you standing up for me, but please, let it go. I’m afraid she’ll go and tattle to Emmett, and he’ll kick me out! It’s okay. I promise I’m fine. See?”

“I didn’t…” Clara’s words were cut short as a swift slap landed on her cheek.

Five red fingerprints appeared on her pale face, standing out abruptly.

The force of Sophia’s slap made Clara stumble back a few steps before regaining her balance.

“I’m telling you, don’t think that because you’re still Mrs. Melendez, my son will always protect you! Even if you can still join the Melendez family, you’ll never win my son’s heart! Don’t think that Emmett bringing you back here means he’ll forgive and forget. I won’t give you that chance! I’m going to talk to him and have you kicked out!”

Upon hearing that, Leah quickly intervened, “Sophia, please don’t fight with Emmett on my account. I don’t want to cause trouble and make him hate me. I just want to stay by my two sons’ side, taking care of them and watching them grow. Clara, no matter what, Emmett still loves her. If you suddenly demand to kick her out, I’m afraid Emmett will think I’m playing

tricks…”

Sophia patted her hand, her expression changed to a warm one, in stark contrast to how she treated Clara, “You needn’t worry. This little witch blinded Emmett, and even, his mother, couldn’t say anything. But things have changed. She ruined her own position, and my son will eventually realize that I, as his

mother, am doing this for his own good. Even if he’s upset with you, I’ll explain to him that this was all my doing, and you had nothing to do with it.”

Looking at the mother-daughter-like bond between them, Clara couldn’t help but want to laugh.

She wondered if Sophia had known from the beginning that she was the real mother of the two boys, would she have treated herself like she treats Leah then?

“What are you waiting for? Get out of here and do your job! Dress like a maid and work like one!”

Clara managed a thin smile, touched her slapped cheek and turned to leave.

Watching Clara’s retreating figure, Sophia’s anger still hadn’t subsided, as if she wished she could throw Clara out of the Melendez family right then and there!

“This woman is cunning. She’s charmed my grandsons and even made my son lose his mind to the point he doesn’t listen to me! If it weren’t for her slip-up caught by the media, my son would still be protecting her, not believing a word I say!”

Leah heaved a sigh of relief, pretending to be thoughtful, “Ah, as you said, it’s hard to know a person’s true character. When I first saw her, I thought she was quite simple and kind. I heard she had some connections with Taylor Atwood of the Atwood family, I wonder if that’s true…”

“Whomever she has connections with doesn’t surprise me! She gravitates towards anyone with money.” Sophia rolled her eyes, taking Leah’s hand, “Enough about her. She just ruins the mood! Emmett sent word that he’ll be joining us for dinner. You two can have a good chat then. I’m looking forward to you capturing his heart and becoming my daughter-in-law!”
