Chapter 19
Adelie POV
An awkward silence assumes the air as we all have breakfast. I glance over at Asher occasionally, and he's not even looking my way.
Earlier in the kitchen after I told him to date Cynthia, he looked so angry that he ended up storming out of the kitchen, and I have been left questioning myself why he reacted that way. I mean, even if he doesn't like her, there should be no reason he should've acted that way, right?
"Son... What do you think about Cynthia? The young lady seems to really like you," Dad breaks the awkward silence, and I glance at Asher to see that he already paused eating, and now holding firmly to his fork like he would stab someone if this discussion doesn't end soon. I'm scared right now, and I can't deny it.
"Your dad is right, Asher... I mean, I have never seen any lady come here to look for you, and I have also never really seen you with any before. She seems to be really courageous to have come here to find you," Mom chips in.
"Uhm... Asher... Mom and dad are right. Cynthia has really been crazy over you. I have never really seen you with any lady, which makes me assume that you have none in your life right now. Why don't you give her a chance?" I know I'm calling for trouble now, but it wouldn't harm trying to convince him, right? Who knows, maybe he would eventually leave me to live my life happily if he gets a girlfriend for himself.
He glances at me with an angry look on, that almost makes me urinate on my body, but I hold back.
"Thanks for the suggestion, everyone... I don't like her," He replies bluntly, and I sigh briefly.
"Is there anything wrong with her?" Dad further asks, and I can see that he's already tired of this discussion.
"Nothing... She's not just my kind of woman," He replies to dad, and this really got me as I end up bursting into laughter, causing them to stare at me weirdly like I'd just lost my mind.
"Sorry about that, but you? Your kind of woman? Do you have a kind of woman? I've never seen you with any lady, so who is your kind of woman?" I try not to laugh again, although it's pretty difficult, because that was the funniest joke I've ever heard in years. It wasn't supposed to be funny, but coming from Asher, I consider it funny.
"My kind of woman? I think you are my kind of woman," He replies to me after a few seconds of silence, and my heart misses a beat as I watch him stare into my eyes with desire written all over him. What the hell did he just say? Has he forgotten that mom and dad are still here?NôvelD(ram)a.ôrg owns this content.
"Yeah, any man would want my baby, and I understand that. I think Cynthia is not bad. Since she's Adelie's friend, you can build her into the woman you want, with the help of your sister," Dad quickly chips in, and I sigh in relief. I thought they were going to overthink it, but I was mistaken. Although they would've done that if they know what their so-called son is doing behind their back.
"Yes, dad is right... I will help you out with it," I laugh nervously, turning my gaze away from him since he has been staring at me with the usual eyes. Fuck! This guy is going to kill me before my appointed time, I just sweat it.
"I will think about it," He replies casually, turning his attention back to his food.
"So, what about you, Adelie? What's your plan? You're not getting any younger, you know that, right?" Dad suddenly faces me and says.
"Me?" I point my index finger to myself like he didn't mention my name before he started talking. I'm just a terrible daughter, I know that. "Yes, you!" He rolls his eyes at me, and I smile at him weirdly.
"My plan? What do you mean by my plan?" Although I know what he's talking about, but I pretend not to. I'm not sure if I want to be with Raymond. Yes, I love him, but I don't know if I love him enough to spend the rest of my life with him, especially now that Asher is always on the way.
"I've heard rumors about you and your boss. Don't play games with us. Did you two started dating already?" Mom chips in, and my eyes narrow in shock. Who told her that?
"Raymond is a nice young man, so you don't have to be scared. Just let us know if there's anything going on between you two," Dad says to me, and I slowly nod my head. I guess I can't keep it from them anymore.
"Yes... We are dating now, although it hasn't been long," I reply to them, and glance at Asher whose eyes are boring at me with rage in them. For fuck's sake, he can't marry me, right? He's my brother, has he forgotten that? "Wow! That's nice. Do you love him? Does he love you?" Mom asks me with a wide smile on her face.
"Can anyone ever love you more than the way I do? Or can you ever love any man more than the way you love me?" Asher suddenly places his arm around my shoulder, smiling at me creepily, and my heart misses a beat. "Come on, sweetheart. I know you love your sister, and she loves you too, but family love is far different from that. Don't mix it together," Mom chuckles softly, but his eyes are only fixed on mine like he wants to look into my soul.
"Answer me, Adelie... Do you love Raymond more than you love me?" Again, his eyes are suddenly becoming so scary that I feel like jerking away from him and screaming my lungs out, but my whole body suddenly becomes weak. It feels like I'm under his spell again, and I slowly find myself nodding my head to his question.
"Will you be with any other man aside from me?" I hear his voice in my head, and it suddenly feels like we are the only ones in a forest.
"No," I find myself replying to him as I stare blankly into his eyes.
"You are mine, Adelie. What did I say?" His voice echoes in my head again, this time, with more power and command.
"I am yours, Asher," Those words escape my lips without being said by me. I try not to be controlled by him, but it seems like whatever he's using on me is doing its work perfectly.
"Tell me you love me, Adelie," His domineering voice echoes in my head, and I find my lips moving on their own, echoing "I love you, Asher,"
"What are you doing, Adelie? Why are you staring at your brother like that?" Mom's faint voice resounds in my head, and I snap back to reality. I glance at Asher to find him focused on his food and he's not even looking in my direction. It can't be that I have been hallucinating all this time, right?
"I'm sorry, mom," I quickly apologize to her, and glance at him again to find him smirking as he fixes his gaze on his food.
"When are you bringing your boyfriend over for lunch?" Dad asks, and I gulp down nothing...
