When They Beg, I Rise!

Chapter 453

When Lemira saw the photo, her mind went blank.

Her hands trembling, she zoomed in on the picture. Though it was just a profile shot, she was certain of her recognition. That was Evelina Sterling's father.

The same man who used to be her parents' chauffeur. But, wasn't he supposed to have died along with her parents? Why was Evelina's father still alive?

In that moment, Lemira felt a chill run down her spine, as if a vast conspiracy was engulfing her.

Her mind was a mess.

If Evelina's father was still alive, then who was the driver that died? And why had Evelina's father faked his disappearance, staying hidden all these years? There had to be a secret reason.

"Ms. Langston, are you alright? Is there a problem with this man?"

"It's nothing."

Lemira quickly masked her expression: "What did this man do when he met Evelina?"

"They met for just a few minutes, then hurriedly parted ways, keeping a wary eye out. They were so cautious, it's clear they were afraid of being overheard."

"Keep an eye on Evelina, and be discreet. And look into this man, see what you can find."

After Debby left, Lemira opened the photo again, studying it countless times.

Why was the chauffeur still alive?

She was convinced that there was more to the car accident years ago, a hidden truth she couldn't remember. If only she could recall the details, she was sure she'd uncover the secret.

Lemira pulled the covers over her head, shivering with cold.

Evelina meeting her father meant she definitely knew something.

After all these years, Evelina had been living happily with the Langstons. The thought of her parents looking down in anger made Lemira's blood boil. She was determined to uncover the truth and avenge her parents. She needed to find a way to probe Asher, to see if he knew the truth but hadn't told her.

Resting on her bed, Lemira lost her appetite for lunch.

Orion called her: "Heard you barely touched your lunch. Feeling off?"

Lemira hesitated before answerings "Caspian sent me a video of Evelina apologizing, and him hitting her just find it ironic, the Langstons are inherently selfish."

Though she felt Evelina deserved some form of retribution.

But blaming everything on Evelina as if Caspian was an innocent bystander didn't sit right with her.

Orion, standing in his luxurious office overlooking the bustling CBD, patiently replied: "Don't let their petty schemes distract you."

"I know."

"If you're feeling cooped up, take a walk in the garden downstairs. I'l have a computer set up in your room; Matthew Everhart can keep you company with some games."

Hearing his offer to install a computer, Lemira quickly declined: "I'll be discharged soon, there's no need for such extravagance."

Orion didn't press further after her refusal.

After hanging up, Lemira's thoughts were in turmoil.

She had always believed the car accident was just an unfortunate mishap.

It turned out there was more to the story.

When Orion returned in the afternoon, he noticed Lemira seemed alright, which eased his worries: "You sounded upset over the phone."

"Don't worry, I won't let the Langstons guilt-trip me."

She tiptoed closer to him: "So, you rushed back because you were concerned about me?"

Orion looked down at her, his throat moving slightly.

He couldn't help but gently touch her face, his actions tender: "Yes, I can't bear to see you upset or crying ever again."

Orion recalled her previous live

stream to clarify the assault, where she had shed tears, albeit as part ofnoveldrama

an act. Still, it had pained him to see her that way.
