Chapter 50
Lemira had been enduring her brothers' cold war tactics for ages. Finally, when Caspian suggested she apply to the same college as Evelina, to keep an eye on each other, it seemed like some sort of compensation for influencing Evelina's grades. What kind of reasoning was that?
But in her past life, she never dared to go against her brothers' wishes, so she had no choice but to agree.
As Lemira mused over this, Wendy, one of Evelina's sidekicks, burst into the classroom, confronting Evelina, "It was clearly you who wanted to cheat, so why am I the one getting punished?"
Tears streaming down her face, Evelina responded, "I didn't cheat. Why are you framing me? I didn't ask you to write that note!"
"It's obviously you, Evelina. Why won't you admit it? Weren't we supposed to be friends? Why would you stab me in the back?"
The sidekick practically went crazy for anxiety. With the punishment hanging over her head, how was she going to handle the exam? Evelina, however, managed to look completely innocent, and the people around started blaming the sidekick for slandering her.
Deep down, Evelina was calm. She knew she wouldn't get into trouble. Teachers and classmates would always take her word over others.
In despair, Wendy turned to Lemira, "I finally understand how you feel. Evelina is nothing but a snake, pretending to be a saint but actually a venomous widow!"
Lemira couldn't help but smirk, seeing she finally get it.
Rushing over, Wendy pleaded, "You must know the truth, right? Evelina's grades aren't that great to begin with; I've been doing her homework for her. You must have seen something when you passed our classroom after finishing your exam early. Testify for me!" Lemira had always been at odds with Evelina; surely, she had a way out.
Evelina frowned slightly. Lemira couldn't possibly know, could she?
Lemira coldly pushed the sidekick's hand away, "Everyone knows what Evelina's like on a regular basis. How could you accuse her without any proof?"
Wendy's face turned pale instantly, clearly not expecting Lemira to react this way.
Lemira remained calm. She wasn't a saint. She had suffered enough from the rumors and harm these sidekicks caused in her past life.
Now, it's her turn to taste the bitterness Evelina had once inflicted on Lemira.
Lemira's response made Evelina sigh in relief.
Evelina, playing the victim, said to Wendy, "We're usually so close, which is why I can't stand by and watch you make a mistake. If you just apologize and admit your wrongs to the teacher, I'm sure they'll forgive you this once." Another sidekick chimed in, "Yeah, you can't just go around accusing Eve."
Wendy looked at her and sneered, "Today it's me, tomorrow it'll be you. Watch your back."This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org: ©.
The other's face looked awkward, "What nonsense are you spouting? You got caught cheating, and it's not Evelina's job to cover for you."
Wendy raised her voice, "Evelina, you think I don't have proof? I'll expose your grade fraud once and for all and see how you keep up your top student facade!"
Evelina's face went pale. Was she looking for trouble?
The teacher approached, "Wendy, what evidence do you have?"
"I have proof in my phone, Evelina's homework was all done by me, and during the exam, when I passed Evelina the note, Lemira happened to pass by the classroom. She must have seen it." The teacher looked at Lemira, "Did you really see it?"
Lemira pondered for a moment. She hadn't paid much attention, only remembering Evelina looking back.
Was this a golden opportunity landing in her lap? If she said she saw it, would Evelina be doomed?
