Chapter 13
After school we all head out to the field. As much as I would like to say that I started practice off without a hitch, I didn’t. I was too wrapped up watching the cheerleaders. I wasn’t the only one if that helps. Coach Calhoon wasn’t too happy about it, but after fifteen minutes he let it go and let us all watch what was going on with the cheerleaders.
It didn’t help that Cass was wearing these black shorts that cupped her ass just right. She had on a tank, it was hot pink, I didn’t think that would be her color but it works. Coach Mallory has both girls run through the routines that she calls out. Just like I thought, Cass kills it. Brittney is ok, but not the best. She is stiff in some areas. She keeps watching Cass and falls at least once. I saw once that she looked like she was going to fall but she caught herself.
After thirty minutes the coach tells them both to sit. Both sit right where they stand. Coach Mallory seems like she is thinking about this kind of hard. It’s not that hard to me, but I’m not the coach. After a minute she sighs. “Kelly, I’m sorry. Cass is the better choice.”
Kelly snarls. “You have got to be kidding me. She isn’t even a cheerleader.”
Coach nods. “She is now.”
Cass doesn’t let it go to her head either. She puts her hand out to Kelly. “You did a great job.”
Kelly smacks her hand. “Don’t you dare patronize me. You shouldn’t even be on the team.”
Cass just keeps a straight face. “I wouldn’t be if you were a fair team leader. You were going to bench my sister out of spite. That’s on you. I hope that we can move past this.”
Kelly gets up and storms off. Coach Mallory shakes her head. “Let’s get to the real practice. Come on girls.” She waves for all the girls to hit the field.
Coach Calhoon takes this as his cue. “Now, boys, can we get to the field?”
We howl and head to the field. It’s like there is a new vigor in the team too. We all play really hard. I don’t know if it was seeing Cass use excellent team work or what. She could have put Kelly in her place but she calmly talked to her. Even congratulated her on her work. That’s a good sport. Kelly is the dumbass that walked off the field. All rights © NôvelDrama.Org.
At the end of the practice I head straight to Cass, before she can duck into the locker room. I grab her waist and pull her back to me. I broke the rule again, this time kissing her neck. “You did amazing out there.”
She laughs. “Yeah, right.”
“I mean it. I’m not just talking about the tryouts, the way you handled Kelly afterwards. It was great. You kept cool.”
“She is still a part of the squad. She’ll cool down and be back. Even if it is just to try to prove that she is better than me.”
I turn her around in my arms. I only meant to look in her eyes, but then her lips were just right there. “You are truly amazing.” I am really breaking the rules. I kiss the shit out of her right now. I wrap her pony tale around my hand so she can’t break away from me. My other arm is pulling her waist to my body. She is just gripping my biceps without a clue as to what to do. Good, maybe I can just keep confusing her and kiss her all the time.
I end the kiss and rest my forehead on hers. She pushes me back. “That’s it, you’re grounded.”
I put on a sad face. “Babe, really.”
She steps away from me. “Oh, yeah, You are grounded. Now you don’t even get the arm thing.”
I stalk towards her. “Oh, really.”
She backs up with her hands out. “You better stop right there.” I can tell it is playful, I wouldn’t purposefully hurt her. I grab her up in my arms as she tries to run from me. We are kind of spinning around and she is laughing. “You are in so much trouble.” She cries out.
I am about to say something else but Coach Calhoon comes around the corner. “Hey, we want to go home at some point. Hit the showers.” He points at the locker rooms. We break apart and do as we are told but I really don’t want to. Cass is too much damn fun.
