Will You Marry Me, Again

Chapter 36

Chapter 36 Marry Me Again

Cedric chuckled. “It worked, didn’t it?”

Baz understood now. “Well, Ms. Maia becoming the new CEO is indeed more newsworthy than Mr. Errol being deaf.” Cedric smirked. “Something even more newsworthy will be trending shortly.”

Soon enough, the topic of Cedric liking the post began to trend, becoming the top trending topic in just a few minutes. He liked the post on purpose to generate more buzz. After all, nothing was more appealing than gossip.

Cedric smiled and picked up his document folder.

Suddenly, Baz’s phone rang, and he quickly answered it. “What? Susie’s dead?”

Cedric’s face froze. Susie had been the woman in charge of Maia’s meals when the fire broke

out.

After he hung up, Baz said, “Sir, our men found Susie dead at her rental home. The police said. it could be suicide.” Cedric snorted. “Seems more like murder to me.”

He snapped his folder closed in frustration. They had been searching for Susie for six months, and now this!

As Baz had been put in charge of finding Susie, he anxiously thought of ways to redeem

himself.

Amoment later, a thought came to him. He said, “Sir, I've found out Ms. Maia’s address in

Prismara.”

Cedric looked relieved. “Where is it?”

“It's a new condo we developed. Cloud Nine Residences.”All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.

Cedric said, “Pull over.”

The chauffeur, Gilbert, quickly did so.

Cedric then said, “Get out of the car.”

“Yes, sir,” Gilbert answered, complying with the order.

“You too,” Cedric said, looking at Baz.

“Right away, sir,” Baz said as he did so.

Cedric then drove off, leaving Baz and Gilbert behind, sharing a wordless glance in the breeze.

Maia gave a statement to the cops. She also presented evidence of Yvette’s men’s assault on her and her brother. Then, she returned to Cloud Nine Residences in Nigel’s company.

“It's been a long day. Get some rest, okay? You still have to attend the inauguration ceremony tomorrow,” Nigel said gently as he helped her unfasten her seatbelt.

Maia nodded. “Thanks, Nigel. | promise you will receive every cent of the agreed-upon fee as the appointed attorney of Starlight.”

“What are you talking about? You know I’m not doing this for the money.” For her, he would work for free. Maia thought for a moment and chuckled. “So you're doing this because I’m pretty, huh?” “lam,” Nigel said earnestly.

Maia was taken aback by his reply. She hadn’t expected Nigel to still have feelings for her. However, she had decided not to fall for anyone ever again, and she wouldn’t be able to reciprocate his affections.

“Nigel, you're not getting any younger. I'll keep an eye out for any nice pretty women for you, okay?” she said playfully, before pointing in the direction of the building entrance and waving goodbye. “I have to go. Drive safe.”

Maia turned, let out a relieved sigh, and headed briskly toward the hallway.

As Nigel gazed after her, his expression grew sadder.

“Your last relationship almost got you killed, so | know it will take time for you to accept me. I'll try harder, Maia,” He comforted himself and left after Maia entered the hallway.

Maia took the elevator to the 12th floor. Just as she entered her passcode to unlock her door, someone seized her hand and pulled her inside, pinning her to the wall.

“Help!” Maia screamed and snatched up a glass vase to smash at her assailant. As the man seized her wrist, the light came on.

Stunned to see his face, Maia composed herself and said, “Cedric, you sure know how to make an entrance, don’t you?”

“What is he to you?”

Maia smiled. “Who are you talking about?”

“Don't play dumb with me,” Cedric said sternly. “Nigel Clayton!”

“What do you care? Who are you to me? And who gave you permission to break into my apartment? Can you imagine the headlines if anyone catches you doing this?”

“A Rendezvous With the Ex—wife. | like the sound of that.”

Asshole!

Maia felt like smashing his head in with the glass vase, but she couldn’t move her hand due to his firm grip.

“So you broke into my place just to ask about my relationship with Nigel?”

Smiling, Cedric grabbed her by the chin and looked into her eyes. “I’ve come to deal with my relationship crisis.” As Maia became momentarily distracted, he snatched the glass vase from her so that she wouldn’t hurt herself. He then leaned in and whispered into her ears. “I told you, I’m going to make you pay for deceiving me.”

“Oh, yeah? How do you expect to do that?” Maia asked with a smile, undaunted.

“Marry me again.”

Maia’s smile froze as memories of the past flooded into her mind. She would never allow herself to make the same mistake again!

She said readily, “Dream on, Cedric. It’s not going to happen.” He smirked. “We'll see about that.”

Trying to stop herself from trembling, Maia snorted and said, “You’re engaged. Haven't your moved on from me yet?”
