Chapter 950: Freya, I Miss You
Freya finished her drink in one gulp.
Orion didn’t leave a drop behind either.
They exchanged a smile.
Setting down her glass, Freya looked down at the star in her arms.
The star seemed unfazed, at least not crying in Freya’s embrace.
Her eyes were round and bright, with long, black, curly lashes.
Her cheeks were soft and milky-white.
Unable to resist, Freya pinched the child’s chubby cheeks.
“This child is so adorable.”
“You have two children of your own, no need to envy others,” Orion remarked.
Freya laughed, “Yes, my son is also very cute.”
The waiter brought their dishes to the table.
Luna reached out her hand to Freya, “Give me the star, you should eat.”
Freya replied, “It’s fine, I’ll hold her.”
Orion held Luna’s wrist, guiding her back to her seat, “It’s fine, Freya doesn’t have to eat if she doesn’t want to.”
Freya hesitated, “…”
“Love over friendship,” Orion teased.
“That must mean your wife is more important,” Freya retorted.
“Hey, Orion, you crossed the river and started breaking the bridge right after, isn’t that too ungrateful?” Freya said with a sly smile.
Orion chuckled, his laughter light and genuine, “Freya, I’m delighted to see you flustered. You’ve been spending so much time with Elijah these past years, you’re starting to act like him.”
Freya asked, “Are you saying that my husband has a bad personality?”
“I didn’t say that, you did,” Orion avoided a direct answer.
Seeing Freya’s protective stance, he added, “Well, looks like the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Your whole family is just as petty.”
Freya pursed her lips, thinking, “You’re the one being petty, not me.”
Halfway through their meal, the star started to cry.
Luna took the star to the restroom, as there was no nursing room in the restaurant.
With Luna gone, Freya regained her composure.
“Are you getting along well with Luna?” she inquired.
Thinking of Luna’s changes, Orion smiled softly, “We’re both trying our best.”
Freya nodded, feeling reassured, “That’s good. I plan to head back tomorrow morning.”
“Yes, Luna mentioned it to me. Your trip here must have been tiring,” Orion expressed his gratitude.
Freya replied, “No need to thank me for our relationship. I didn’t do much. It’s mainly thanks to Luna, her willingness to try is what matters.”
Orion concurred, “Of course.”
He sighed, “Do you know how much I’ve suffered before?”
“You’re doing better now,” Freya comforted him. “Things will improve in the future.”
Orion agreed, “I’ll seize the opportunity and take care of her. Don’t worry, what time is your flight tomorrow? I’ll come to see you off.”
“No need, the hotel provides a shuttle service. You don’t have to make the trip,” Freya declined.
“But…” Orion hesitated.
“It’s okay, I’m a grown adult. I can take care of myself,” Freya assured him.
“If Elijah finds out, he would surely scold me,” Orion joked.
“Then we won’t say anything, and he won’t know,” Freya suggested.
“That’s true,” Orion poured another glass of wine for her. “Let’s have another toast.”
Freya raised her glass, “Sure.”
She clinked glasses with him.
Luna approached with the star, who had finished her milk, and said, “You two are drinking again, don’t drink too much.”
Freya reassured her, “I won’t drink too much.”
Luna asked, “When can you drink again?”
Freya replied, “I can’t drink now, look at the alcohol level.”
Luna checked the bottle and indeed, the alcohol content was low.
…
After dinner, Freya took a cab back to the hotel.
Her head felt dizzy.
Even though the alcohol content was low, she still felt a bit lightheaded.
This was because she didn’t drink much.
Orion had been drinking, and there was the star to take care of, so Freya returned to the hotel alone.
Upon reaching her room, she dialed Elijah’s number.
The call was answered promptly.
“Hello.”
A deep voice came through the line.
Freya’s heart raced.
It seemed she really liked this man.
Just hearing his voice made her heart flutter.
The ceiling light seemed particularly glaring, so she raised her arm to shield her eyes.
With the phone in hand, she murmured, “Elijah, I miss you.”
At that moment, Elijah was still at the office.
One hand held the phone, and the other was reviewing documents.
Upon hearing Freya’s words, he paused, setting down his pen.
Flexing his wrist, he asked, “When are you coming back?”
“I said I miss you,” Freya pouted, not the response she was hoping for.
Elijah inquired, “What do you want to hear? I’ll tell you everything when you’re back.”
“No, I want to hear it now,” she cooed over the phone. “Is that okay?”
Elijah frowned slightly.
Had she been drinking?
“Have you been drinking?” he questioned.
She’d never act like this normally.Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.
Freya chuckled, “Just a little, I was drinking with Orion.”
“Are you alone in the hotel?” he asked.
Freya mumbled, “Yes, all by myself.”
“Be safe,” Elijah warned. “Make sure to lock the door.”
Freya pouted, “I don’t feel like moving.”
Elijah pressed on, “Even if you don’t want to, you should get up and check if the door is locked. It’s for your safety.”
Freya hesitated, “…”
This guy.
“I shouldn’t have called you. Do you really have to check up on me from afar? Can’t I handle things on my own?”
“It’s not about controlling you, it’s for your own good. Hotels can be crowded, it’s better to be cautious,” Elijah explained.
Freya crawled out of bed, unsteadily walking to the door, which wasn’t locked.
She shook her head, trying to clear her mind.
The more flustered she felt, the more her head throbbed.
She rubbed her temples.
With a shaky hand, she locked the door.
Returning to bed, she reassured him, “The door’s locked, you can relax now.”
Elijah responded softly, “Hmm.”
“Should I hang up now?” she asked.
Elijah held the phone, asking once more, “When are you coming back?”
Even though her flight was booked, she teased, “Why? You don’t miss me, so why should I go back? I won’t return.”
Elijah chuckled, “Are you upset?”
Freya rolled over, “I don’t know, I’ll hang up now.”
“Don’t hang up, listening to your voice is nice too. Freya, I miss you,” Elijah confessed.
Freya smiled, “Well, I have a flight tomorrow morning.”
Elijah, exasperated, rubbed his forehead. “But you just said you’re not coming back.”
Freya chuckled, her voice clear and light, “I tricked you. You didn’t miss me enough.”
“I’ll be waiting for you at home tomorrow.”
Freya buried her face in the blankets, muttering, “Okay.”
