Chapter 1338
Rosalie felt rather distracted after leaving the hospital.
For some reason, she felt very disappointed.
She knew how to stop herself from feeling disappointed, but she didn't dare to do it. She didn't know how the future would unfold.
Rosalie suddenly wanted to get some fresh air alone, so instead of driving, she walked along the roadside.
Somehow, she ended up on another street, far away from where she parked her car. The street was very crowded and lively, packed with many restaurants.
Feeling rather hungry, Rosalie walked into a buffet restaurant along the street.
There was a sign hung up on the door, with the words, 'If this is your first time in this city and you face some difficulties with no money to your name, come in and order set number #0 for free.'
This was an ordinary buffet restaurant, with dishes displayed that diners could help themselves to. There was a good variety of dishes which looked ordinary but delicious. The food looked and smelled so good, it whetted Rosalie's appetite.
This restaurant operated on a 'eat first, pay later' basis.
Rosalie picked a few dishes and sat down at a table. Then, she started eating while reading the book.
There was a foreword behind the cover.
'In a place filled with rumors and darkness, William became a murderer in everyone's eyes. Residents of Brook Street were swayed by the rumors like the wind, their tongues wagging like sharp blades as they took things out of context and maliciously turned the rumors into reality.
'William, an ordinary man with nary a
smear on his records, ended up in a vortex of lies and rumors due to an accident No matter how hard he tried to explain himself, he got lost in someone's malicious accusations that grew into a collective cry against him.
'He became a criminal in everyone's eyes, and everyone, despite the lack of evidence, managed to bypass the judge and became judges themselves, executing moral judgment by vilifying and lambasting William and condemning anyone who tried to speak up for him. William, who could tolerate it no
longer, began striking back, yet ended up becoming a "demon" in the process.
'When he was forced to become a demon, he found himself under even more criticism. Even his counter-attack had become a crime.
'This is a story that explores human nature, being misunderstood by strangers, and the so-called social justice which loses its morality under the influence of malicious rumors. People end up as victims and objects of sacrifice.
'Of course, there are some bravenoveldrama
souls in this story. They start to
think independently, questioning the decision of the majority. They begin investigating the truth of the matter, challenging hearsay and courageously facing up against the pressures of society. Armed with the spirit of independent thought, they try to prove William's innocence. This story will reveal the innermost kindness and wickedness of the human heart, and the ability of people to think independently for themselves without being swayed by public opinion.'
Reading the foreword, Rosalie felt emotional. From time immemorial, putting a stop to rumors has never been as easy as fabricating them. People who go with the flock see something taken out of context and take it as the irrefutable truth, joining the army of keyboard warriors and attacking someone they don't know or something they don't understand.
This exemplified the wickedness of human nature.
Yet, these people would never see themselves as wicked. They saw themselves as the benchmark of morality, excusing themselves of their evil deeds while standing on moral high ground.
Such wickedness was ignorance.
No wonder Justin said that this book was heavy.
Anything that had to do with human nature was oftentimes heavy.
Halfway through her meal, Rosalie heard a commotion which sounded like the boss of the restaurant arguing with a customer.
What do you think?
