Chapter 727
Chapter 727
Agnes was utterly bewildered. She picked up her smartphone to check the time, only to find several
missed calls from Jared.
It was already 3 AM. What on earth could Jared be calling about at this hour?
Still half-asleep, Agnes slid off her bed and dialed his number.
As she reached the door, the call connected.
“Hello?” she murmured, opening the door as she did.
To her shock, Jared was standing right outside, phone in hand. Any trace of sleepiness was instantly
banished from Agnes.
“What are you doing here?” she asked, incredulous.
Jared simply stepped inside, announcing, “I was worried you'd run off, so I thought I'd come keep an
eye on you.”
Agnes rolled her eyes, closing the door behind him. “And where exactly do you think I could run off to?”
Jared turned around and pulled her close, wrapping his arms around her waist. “I missed you.”
Agnes was speechless. “We haven't even been apart for a full day!”
Jared leaned in, his lips brushing her hair. His voice was a drowsy murmur. “Is that so? Felt like forever
to me.”
Agnes regretted letting him in. She was exhausted, and now she felt like she was about to collapse.
Eventually, she fell asleep, vaguely aware of Jared's soft kisses on her cheeks throughout the night.
She didn't wake up until 8 AM, at which point she realized with a start, “Oh no.”
Jared was still lying next to her, his arms still wrapped around her waist.
Awoken by the commotion, he grumbled like a petulant child. “Can't we sleep in a bit longer? Why get
up so early?”
Agnes replied, “Today's the second trial for Laura.”
Jared quickly got out of bed, and they both headed to the courthouse. NôvelDrama.Org owns all content.
New evidence had been presented in Laura's case. It was related to Hammer's attempted murder.
Agnes was shocked when Laura confessed in court. She was sentenced to 18 years in prison.
Hammer, on the other hand, was sentenced to 8 years for attempted murder.
Agnes sat in the front row of the audience, close enough to see Laura's expression clearly.
However, Laura remained expressionless throughout, appearing completely desolate.
Agnes knew the truth. Laura wasn't foolish enough to incite Hammer's murder. It was all Beatrice's
doing. Laura, who had always been clever, had been undone by her own daughter's recklessness. And
she had taken the blame for everything Beatrice had done.
If there was any shred of humanity left in her, it was her maternal love for Beatrice.
As Laura was led away, she seemed to glance in Agnes' direction. There wasn't a hint of hope in her
eyes, only despair.
Agnes felt that this was karma.
When they left the courthouse, Agnes felt a strange mix of relief, sadness, and happiness.
It was as if a heavy weight she had carried for years had suddenly been lifted.
Jared put his arm around her shoulders. “I can't believe we were separated for four years because of
that wicked woman. Eighteen years aren't enough to quell the anger in my heart.”
Agnes asked, “Did you make her take the fall for Beatrice?”
Jared glanced at Agnes. “Your parents' lives can't be redeemed by just eight years. Once Laura is out
in 18 years, she will be a helpless old woman, lost and alone. Nothing could be more frightening.
Agnes, we've finally avenged your parents. I hope they can finally rest in peace.”
