Chapter 834: I Have Someone I Like

After listening to Lane, Bonnie smiled and replied, "That's true, but you don't have to come over

frequently. There are usually plenty of people around during the day, and they take turns to be with

me."

Lane looked at Bonnie when he heard her words and raised his gaze. "Does that mean you don't

welcome me?"

Bonnie was taken aback for a moment, then shook her head repeatedly, saying, "No, it's not that. I just

think you work so hard, and when you finally have some rest, you shouldn't come over to my place.

Just stay at home and take a good rest."

"It's alright, I'm not that tired. Besides, I have to go on a business trip in a couple of days, so we might

not be able to see each other for a long time," Lane whispered.

"Did you take another case?" Bonnie asked.

"It's some economic disputes, quite challenging to handle, so it might take a while," Lane explained.

"Your profession seems quite demanding. Make sure you take enough rest during normal times,"

Bonnie commented.

While the two were chatting, someone knocked on the door of the hospital room. "Miss Cooke, it's time

for your check-up. Let's go to the examination room now."

Bonnie acknowledged the nurse's words and then looked at Lane. "You stay here for a while; I'll be Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.

back soon."

"I'll accompany you," Lane stood up and whispered to Bonnie.

"No need, men are not allowed in the examination room," Bonnie replied.

Lane nodded, "Alright, I'll wait for you here."

"Okay."

As Bonnie left, Lane's phone started ringing.

Seeing the caller ID, Lane furrowed his brow slightly. He answered the call just as it was about to end.

"Mom."

"Where did you disappear early in the morning? I tried calling several times, and couldn't reach you.

Anyone would think you've vanished from the face of the Earth," Mrs. Phillips's voice came through the

phone, with a hint of reproach.

Listening to Mrs. Phillips, Lane rubbed his temples with his hand and asked, "Is there something you

need, Mom?"

"Didn't I tell you that we have guests coming today and asked you to stay at home?" Mrs. Phillips's

voice held a hint of calculation.

Lane naturally knew what Mrs. Phillips was up to. "Mom, I understand that you're concerned about my

personal matters, but you also know about my work. Most of the year, I'm traveling all over the world,

rarely staying in one place. If I follow your plan, it will only inconvenience the other party."

"Why don't you take fewer cases from other cities and handle more cases in Manches City? What

about that person, Uncle Lee's son? He's a lawyer in Manches City and seems to be doing well. Why

do you always have to go elsewhere? Your dad and I are getting older, and we would like to see you

settle down. Can't you consider our feelings?" Mrs. Phillips lectured Lane over the phone, leaving him

speechless.

"Mom, if it were just a regular visit, I could immediately come back. But if it's about those arranged blind

dates like before, there's no need. I have someone I like," Lane said earnestly.

Upon hearing Lane's words, Mrs. Phillips was momentarily stunned. "You're dating someone?"

"Not yet, but I will try my best. So, could you please stop arranging those meaningless blind dates for

me?" Lane requested sincerely.

Mrs. Phillips fell silent for a few seconds. "Then come back today. You know this girl too. I heard you

were classmates before, and I think she's not bad. Even if you don't like her, we've already scheduled

the meeting for today. It won't hurt to meet her, right?"

Since the conversation had reached this point, Lane couldn't really refuse any further. After hesitating

for a while, he finally responded, "Fine, I got it. I'll definitely be back before noon."

Upon hearing Lane's agreement, Mrs. Phillips smiled and hung up the phone.

...

Manches City Detox Center.

Zane parked the car at the entrance and glanced in the direction of the center. "Are you going in?"

Phoebe nodded in response to his question. "Let's go in and take a look. I've never seen what it looks

like inside."

Zane turned off the engine. "Once you go in, you'll never want to come here again in your life."

As Phoebe unbuckled her seatbelt, she asked, "Is it really that scary?"

"You'll find out once you see it," Zane replied.

Phoebe followed Zane out of the car and into the detox center.

Antonio was almost ready to be released now.

After agreeing to Olivia's request, Phoebe had consulted with someone before. However, they couldn't

easily release him because someone had made a fuss, so Phoebe brought Zane here to take him out.

Compared to before, Antonio had become much thinner. At his age, he should have been in his prime,

but after being confined here for so long, he looked frail and weak.

"It's true what they say, these things are really deadly. Once you get involved, it's a one-way street,"

Phoebe whispered to Zane as they walked.

Zane nodded. "The situation is much better now than before. You wouldn't even dare to step foot in

here back then."

Just as Phoebe was about to speak, someone suddenly banged on the iron bars, startling her. She

instinctively grabbed Zane's arm. "Why do these people look like they want to devour others?"

Zane glanced at Phoebe's face. "You wanted to see them, didn't you? Now you're scared?"

"Not really, I just feel like they might rush out at any moment and devour me!" Phoebe exclaimed.

Zane chuckled softly. "They won't."

When the paperwork was being processed, Antonio was finally released from the separate room inside.

Upon seeing Zane, Antonio was still a bit nervous, considering the trouble he had caused before. He

was afraid of Zane now.

"Sis... brother-in-law," Antonio greeted, his voice trembling slightly.

Zane glanced at Antonio and simply nodded. "Let's get out of here first."

After speaking, Zane turned around and walked out.

Phoebe walked alongside Antonio. "I came here because I promised your mom. After you're out, take

care of yourself."

Antonio had met Phoebe once before and was acquainted with her.

"I understand," Antonio replied.

As they walked for a while, Antonio glanced at Zane walking ahead and asked Phoebe in a low voice,

"Why did you come? Isn't my sister here?"

"She had some issues and is currently at the hospital," Phoebe explained.

Upon hearing Phoebe's words, Antonio looked at her intently. "Something happened? Is it serious?"

"It's not too bad," Phoebe reassured him.

After a few seconds of silence, Antonio spoke up again. "Can I go see her?"

Phoebe hesitated for a moment. "You can, but you should ask my brother first. If he doesn't have any

objections, then I don't mind."

After all, Antonio and Yanis still had an inseparable blood relationship.
