Chapter 843: A Gift for the Unborn Great-Grandchild
Upon hearing Zane's question, Yanis turned to him and asked, "How did you know?"
"What did he say?" Zane inquired. Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.
Yanis paused and looked at Zane, "He didn't say much. Bonnie snapped at him, and then Ivan
snapped back. After that, he left."
Zane didn't say much after hearing Yanis's words. Instead, he smoothly changed the subject, "The
water's ready. You go ahead and wash up. I'll go downstairs and play a couple of rounds of chess with
Grandpa. I'll come back up soon."
Yanis nodded, "Okay."
After Zane went downstairs, he sought out the Old Mr. Lawrence.
"Grandpa," Zane entered the room, finding the Old Mr. Lawrence rummaging through boxes.
Upon hearing Zane's voice, the Old Mr. Lawrence paused and beckoned him over, "Come here."
Zane approached, lifting his foot, "What are you looking for?"
Sitting on a nearby recliner, the Old Mrs. Lawrence chimed in, "He's looking for a gift to give to the
unborn great-grandchild in advance."
Upon hearing the Old Mrs. Lawrence's words, Zane's brow furrowed slightly, "The baby isn't even born
yet. There's no rush. Take your time."
The Old Mr. Lawrence said, "Just look for it first. It's a mahogany box."
Zane stepped forward and took down some books and small boxes from the bookshelf, "Where did you
put it?"
"I remember it was in a box, but I can't recall which one. Look around and see if you can find it," the
Old Mr. Lawrence said, making room for Zane to search.
The place where the two old people lived was quite spacious, with two rooms connected. One side was
for sleeping, and the other side was a small study with a large bookshelf. The Old Mr. Lawrence liked
reading books on history and had filled the shelves to the brim.
There were also many small trinkets that were not particularly valuable but held sentimental value.
Anika had brought back several antiques from her collection and gifted them to the Old Mr. Lawrence.
The Old Mr. Lawrence treasured them like precious items.
As Zane searched through the boxes for quite some time, he finally found a rectangular mahogany box.
Inside was a beautifully crafted jade pendant that changed colors, looking exquisite.
Zane glanced at it and handed the box to the Old Mr. Lawrence, saying, "Is this it?"
The Old Mr. Lawrence reached out and took it from Zane's hand, opening it to examine it closely, "Yes,
this is it."
After confirming, the Old Mr. Lawrence put the item back and handed it back to Zane, "When you go
upstairs later, give this to Yanis. Tell her it's a gift from me to the great-grandchild."
Zane didn't refuse and accepted it, saying, "Alright, I'll give it to Yanis later."
After speaking, Zane casually placed the box on another table, "Let me play a couple of rounds with
you?"
The Old Mr. Lawrence glanced at the time and nodded, "Sure."
Grandfather and grandson quickly set up the chessboard and chatted a bit as they played, "Has
anyone from the Bennett family come to see you recently?"
After making a move, the Old Mr. Lawrence looked at Zane and asked.
"No," Zane replied.
"That child is too stubborn. He's young and too fixated on his own ideas, causing harm to himself and
others," the Old Mr. Lawrencemuttered under his breath.
Zane didn't continue the conversation. "Did you hear something?" he asked.
The Old Mr. Lawrence focused on the chessboard. "I didn't hear anything in particular. Although I don't
pay as much attention to online matters like you young people do, the people around me still ask me
about things from time to time."
Zane captured one of the Old Mr. Lawrence's pawns before responding, "If there's anything, just listen
to it and leave it at that. We can't control what others say."
The chess game continued as the two men enjoyed their conversation and spent their time together.
The Old Mr. Lawrence chuckled at Zane's words. "Do you need to teach me that? I've seen all kinds of
situations. I'm just worried about you. That kid from the Bennett family doesn't seem like a good
person. You better be careful and not cause any trouble or give me a headache."
Zane quietly acknowledged, "I know, don't worry."
The Old Mr. Lawrence nodded, "As long as you understand."
After a brief pause, the Old Mr. Lawrence continued, "By the way, what are your plans regarding Uncle
Dylan?"
"What do you mean by plans, Grandpa?"
"The Lawrence Group will eventually be under your management. You'll have control over this vast
family business. But Uncle Dylan is still your elder, and he has no sons, only Phoebe as his daughter.
You need to consider her future and everything that comes with it."
After listening to the Old Mr. Lawrence, Zane understood, "Don't worry, when Phoebe gets married, I
will make proper arrangements."
Satisfied with Zane's response, the Old Mr. Lawrence nodded, "After all, we're all family. Sometimes it's
okay to suffer a little loss. There's no meaning in constantly arguing. It's better for the family to get
along harmoniously."
Zane nodded, "Okay."
Due to time constraints, Zane played two games of chess with the Old Mr. Lawrence and then excused
himself.
As Zane was leaving the room of the Old Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence, Anika and Iris happened to return.
"Where have you two been wandering for so long?" Zane asked Iris and Anika.
Anika replied, "I took Iris around the area. Brother, why aren't you asleep yet?"
"I played a couple of chess games with Grandpa. I'm going to sleep now," Zane answered.
After that, Zane turned to Iris, "If you need anything, you can go to Sophia. She'll help you with
anything."
Iris nodded, "Okay."
Zane bid them both goodnight and went upstairs.
After Zane left, Anika looked at Iris, "You should rest now. I'll go in and chat with Grandpa and
Grandma for a while, then go to bed."
Iris raised her hand to check the time, "Dr. Wood said you shouldn't stay up too late."
"Just for a while. I'll go to bed soon," Anika assured.
Iris hesitated for a moment and nodded, "Okay."
Iris watched as Anika entered the room, then turned and headed back to her own guest room.
Inside the room, Sophia had prepared everything that needed to be ready.
She had placed new pajamas on the bed, along with a note stating that the sleepwear and toiletries
were all brand new.
The size of the pajamas was based on Zane's purchase, and it was suitable for Iris since she had a
similar height to Zane.
Iris took the pajamas and headed to the bathroom.
When she finished her shower and came out, she found Anika sitting by the bed, holding a small plate
of fruits.
"Are you done with your shower?"
Iris instinctively tightened her grip on her pajamas, "When did you come in?"
"I knocked on the door and called for you when I came in, but you didn't respond. Since the door wasn't
locked, I came in directly," Anika explained.
With that, Anika stood up and handed the fruit plate to Iris, "Sophia prepared this. Do you want to have
some?"
Iris was about to decline but met Anika's gazeand ended up taking one, "When did you finish chatting
with Grandpa and Grandma? Are they asleep?"
"They're old, just talking and they fell asleep. So I came out," Anika said, placing the plate on the
bedside table. "Take your time eating. I'll go back and take a shower before going to sleep."
Iris made a sound of agreement, "Goodnight."
