Chapter 129
After Noelle finished her sentence, everyone in the room had a complicated expression. She looked up at Cedric, gathered her courage, and met his gaze. His thin lips were pressed together, and his hand, hanging by his side, slowly clenched, betraying a hint of hesitation.
In his life, there had never been anything he feared. But now, he couldn't figure out what she was thinking.
Frank was even more surprised. "Noelle, what do you mean by that? What do you mean there's no need?"noveldrama
He thought it was very necessary. He didn't want Noelle to be entangled with Cedric. Frank was ready to deal with Cedric if he had ulterior motives for money.
Noelle's expression remained calm. "Frank, don't casually introduce women to others. You weren't this nosy before. A person as outstanding as Mr. Greene doesn't need you to introduce anyone to him."
He could only nod. "Alright. Whatever you say. Since you say so, I won't insist. I was just concerned because Mr. Greene is your friend; that's all."
Alfred clicked his tongue, thinking only a fool would believe that. It was obvious that Frank was trying to test Cedric by introducing a potential partner.
But it was convenient, as it aligned with Cedric's intentions to return this time, so he went along with it naturally.
Frank returned to his seat. "Noelle had some conflicts with our family earlier. I'm really grateful that you helped take care of her, Mr. Greene. I'll remember this kindness and help when needed." "You're welcome."
Cedric poured himself a glass of wine and took a few sips. Actually, he wasn't a big fan of smoking or drinking, but at that moment, he inexplicably felt the need for a drink.
His gaze unconsciously fell on Noelle, who was sitting properly in her chair, her long hair draped over her shoulders. Her skin was pale, exuding an air of quiet calm.
He only glanced at her briefly before quickly turning his gaze away. His mood inexplicably turned a little restless.
The meal passed in near silence. Except for the main group, no one else from the company dared to speak, let alone offer toasts.
They were only on the receiving end
of being urged to drink-none of
them held the status high enough to initiate a drinking toast themselves.
Noelle stood up and left the restaurant's private room, her mind distracted as she walked ahead.
Frank walked behind, intentionally matching Cedric's pace. He spoke deliberately. "It's my treat today, and thank you again for looking out for Noelle in the past."
Cedric walked leisurely. "If you know she's important, don't do anything to hurt her."
"Noelle is my sister. I am the last person in the world who would hurt her."
"But you're also the one most likely to hurt her." Cedric's gaze was cold. "That, I believe you know better than I do."
Frank was somewhat angered. "But you have no right to take care of her. Who do you think you are? What do you think of Noelle?" Cedric's throat moved slightly. "A friend."
Noelle heard the response from behind her, and she forced a smile, her eyes showing a trace of discomfort.
Right. They were just friends. She quickened her pace down the stairs, her mind swimming in turmoil.
The wind outside blew at her face, and it helped her regain a bit of clarity.
"Noelle, come back home with me." Frank looked at her with earnest eyes. He continued, "I promise I won't act like before."
From the corner of her eye, Noelle
saw Cedric walking toward themet
His steps were steady, his tall frame striking against the night. Her heart inexplicably raced.
Alfred parked the car by the side of the road and rolled down the window. "Nelly, get in. We're leaving."
Noelle turned around and walked towards Alfred.
Frank watched them, reluctant. "Noelle."
What do you think?
